In thinking this woman was an arse about me being late?

Night out with a friend tonight for her birthday. Another friend of hers (I've only met her once) messaged me earlier to ask if I was driving and if so would I mind picking her up on my way. No problem, only about a 5 minute detour so no biggie. I told her I'd pick her up at 7.45 as we're meeting at 8. When I got close to where she lives there were roadworks with temporary traffic lights which I sat at for few minutes and had to go a slightly longer route as one of the roads was closed. I arrived to pick her up at 7.49pm exactly to be greeted with a 'you're late, I was always told it was bad manners to be late'. I was taken aback and said nothing because I wasn't sure if she was joking. Got to restaurant at just before 8 (in the same town) and she made a massive show to everyone 'sorry we're late, Wilbur didn't turn up on time' to which everyone pointed out that actually we weren't late etc etc. At every fucking opportunity tonight she made some catty comment about 'tardiness' and 'manners' etc whilst shaking her head at me. I told her i was going home because she was being an utter arse and apologised to our mutual friend that I was leaving early. Other woman called after me 'but how will I get home now?' WIBU to tell her that I didn't give a rat's arse? Incidentally I am NEVER normally late.

Sorry, there appear to be too many arses in my post.

Oh gosh, what a rude woman! Poor you Flowers

Pipbin · 11/04/2015 23:19

She is an arse.
She should have got her own arse there is she was so arsed about it.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 11/04/2015 23:20

You shouldn't have gone home early and missed out.

But bravo for leaving her stranded and telling her why. She sounds horrible and next time she can get there under her own steam.

PuntasticUsername · 11/04/2015 23:20

YANBU. The best possible explanation I can think of is that this woman has an extremely strange sense of humour. Or, she's just extremely strange. Either way, I wouldn't be rushing to offer her any more lifts!

RandomMess · 11/04/2015 23:21

What an ungrateful cow!!!!

Leeds2 · 11/04/2015 23:21

I wouldn't give her a lift again!

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/04/2015 23:21

OMG do rude.

being late is rude. shed have had a point if you'd faffed about or been updating gave book minuted after you should have been there.

However unexpected traffic is no one's fault and she was beyond rude.

pictish · 11/04/2015 23:21

Very odd behaviour on her part. How does your friend know her?
What did she (or anyone else) say when you told her she was being an utter arse?

lomega · 11/04/2015 23:21

Hah, no YWNBU. As long as it didn't ruin your friend's birthday.

Entitled people like this woman make me want to screech. And good on you for leaving early because you didn't stand for being spoken to like shit!

Jenda · 11/04/2015 23:21

well handled, she sounds like a total arse

ThingummyJigg · 11/04/2015 23:21

It's understandable, all the arses, it's a post about one big arse.

YANBU to think she was an arse because clearly she is one.

If only she had had the courtesy to tell you about the roadworks near her house, you wouldn't have been late. Wink

What a very rude woman.

Cherrychocolate · 11/04/2015 23:21

She sounds like an arse.

mindthegap79 · 11/04/2015 23:21

YANBU. She's the rude one. My blood is boiling on your behalf. Hope her taxi home is late.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/04/2015 23:22

face book

DevaDiva · 11/04/2015 23:22

She was a twunt, YANBU

MagratGarlik · 11/04/2015 23:23

She's heard of taxis to get her home, right?

What a rude woman.

Silverdaisy · 11/04/2015 23:30

It took 11 minutes from her house to park and arrive at the restaurant! She must be able to walk that distance. Unless there is a disability or very dangerous road.

daffsandtulips · 11/04/2015 23:30

YANBU but in saying that, if thought I was going to be caught in traffic and be a bit late I call and nofity the person.

Patapouf · 11/04/2015 23:31

She was rude. I would have told her she could take a taxi then and driven off without her.

Spotifymuse · 11/04/2015 23:35

There are an awful lot of obnoxious arses in the world. Well done for calling her on her behaviour.

unlucky83 · 11/04/2015 23:35

YANBU -she was an ungrateful arse - maybe she could have warned you about the road works in advance ...or maybe she has anxiety issues about being late (DP does it drives me insane). Still an arse...
(I got roped into taking a DC to an activity with mine...every week I would take them and bring them home - I'd said I would one week cos the (single parent) mother was working but I ended up doing it every week even when the mother, grandmother and other family members were there - all drivers with their own cars Angry. And I never got a thanks. But what really made my blood boil was it was tight for me to get my DC fed and there on time anyway - so the 5 mins out of my way to pick them up really counted - I was a couple of times on the last minute/few minutes late - and the DC would always make some comment about the mum thought I wasn't coming or I was late again AngryAngryAngry)

Pancakeflipper · 11/04/2015 23:36

4mins late is not worthy of a text. And I wouldn't even deem it late in an instance like this.

How the fuck do they cope with a real late situation? Their eyes must fall out at all the unnecessary glaring.
To use a MN phrase, they have issues. Or are just a generic pain in the arse.

daffsandtulips · 11/04/2015 23:36

If i agree to do something at a certain time, if im going to be late, i call and tell them. that's a courteous thing to do. so its a bit of both from me.

MagratGarlik · 11/04/2015 23:37

daffsandtulips, but you can't call if you are driving, unless you pull over and that might make you more late? (disclaimer: my car is old and unsophisticated - I don't have any fancy hand-free, blue-tooth wotsits for the phone).
