I know she's in Peru, and it is a delicacy there, but I don't want a picture of them roasted my newsfeed after she fed dd's and Dniece's piggys for a week last year while we were on holiday.

Bleurhg.

Well...unless you're going to get equally upset about less obviously cute animals YABU. If you're vegetarian already...YANBU.

Marmaladedandelions · 10/04/2015 23:26

YANBU Sad

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 10/04/2015 23:27

Apparently they taste like chicken.

YABU. Unless they're your guinea pigs, in which case YANBU.

CatthiefKeith · 10/04/2015 23:29

I haven't got pet cows, chickens, pigs or sheep though!

I agree with MrsFlannel - if you're a veggie it's not BU at all to not want to see pictures of any dead animal. However, if your upset is just caused by someone eating a cute dead thing rather than a dead thing you don't mind being killed, then YABU and need to stop with the Disney shit.

CatthiefKeith · 10/04/2015 23:30

You can probably find the pic on my FB Derek. I have commented!

I think I know people eat guinea pigs from a Jilly Cooper book.

Or was that gerbils?

Or hammys?

EstRusMum · 10/04/2015 23:31

I would try one. Blush

Devora · 10/04/2015 23:31

YABU, I'm afraid. You're perfectly entitled to feel sentimental about selected animal species, but not to pretend that that's logical or that others who feel differently are falling short.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 10/04/2015 23:32

EatShitDerek I think the ones you eat are bigger than the ones you keep as pets.

I can't get too excited about this tbh. I love rabbits and have had pet rabbits in the past. I have also eaten rabbit before but I wasn't that keen on it. I would have no problem eating it again if I liked it though. I wouldn't have a problem with eating guinea pigs either.

CatthiefKeith · 10/04/2015 23:32

I just hope she doesn't go anywhere that eats Labradors. She is looking after mine in the summer!

Well, they are a food source in South America.
Just like rabbit is here.

Everything is part of a food chain CatThief.

Sorry.

ashtrayheart · 10/04/2015 23:33

I've fed and cooed over lambs, I've also eaten lambs. Not sure it's any different.

partialderivative · 10/04/2015 23:34

I ate rat in Nigeria.

Would that have upset you?

cruikshank · 10/04/2015 23:34

Ok, now that it seems you're not a veggie, I'll say to EstRusMum that I've eaten them. They were actually quite nice. OP, you do realise, don't you, that every time you eat chicken you're eating an animal that's been killed?

Threeplus1 · 10/04/2015 23:35

YABU people all over the world eat a variety of animals....just hide the pic and scroll on

BertieBotts · 10/04/2015 23:37

But it's quite plausible that people might have chickens as pets. If you were asked to feed someone's chickens while they were on holiday you would probably do it, but it wouldn't stop you from making a stir fry or a roast or whatever with a prepackaged chicken from Tesco. You might even (shock horror!) post photos on facebook of it, if that is the kind of thing you post. Nor would you be at all likely to think "Ooh you look plump and juicy!" about the pet chicken you are feeding and decide to serve it up.

CatthiefKeith · 10/04/2015 23:37

But but but.......

Oh ok then.

Grilled Cat anyone??? Grin

When we visited Peru, some of our group ordered guinea pig to try (I had alpaca instead...). They are roasted whole, and come out on the plate intact, with head, feet etc. Suddenly turning squeamish, our group asked if they could have the heads removed. The waiter took them away, and brought them back headless, with the heads arranged on the plate, looking up at them!
Not quite what they were expecting.

YABU I'm afraid, but understandable if you have guinea pigs.
Interested if you'd feel the same about people eating rabbit, say?

Did you know that pigs are as intelligent as monkeys? I think I'd rather eat a Guinea Pig. I draw the line at dogs, because I love them. But I don't expect anyone else to agree.

CatthiefKeith · 10/04/2015 23:38

I don't like rabbit. I have tried it. Too gamey! Blush

My MIL's father ate all her guinea pigs when she went off to school. She overheard him telling the neighbour how tasty they were. She never got over the shock and vowed never to have any more pets in case her dad ate them. It's a true story she has lots of fascinating stories of her childhood in S.E Asia. Another was how her sister was forced to swallow baby mice to cure some random illness
