I know she's in Peru, and it is a delicacy there, but I don't want a picture of them roasted my newsfeed after she fed dd's and Dniece's piggys for a week last year while we were on holiday.

Tagged you Derek. Now you will be grossed out. They don't look very big to me. Sad

Grilled Cat anyone???

For some reason I don't imagine cats to taste very nice probably because they stink. Same goes for dogs.

I'm willing to give anything a try though.

BertieBotts · 10/04/2015 23:39

I've seen pictures before and I do have to admit I am a bit squeamish that they are roasted whole. But I suppose, fish sometimes are and I've both fed fish and eaten fish.

Bogeyface · 10/04/2015 23:40

Can I confirm something?

You are only upset because she fed your pets last summer and has now eaten the same species?

If you had a cat and she fed that and then ate guinea pigs, it wouldnt have bothered you?

What do you think she was doing? Going to your house and saying "Eat little piggies, get nice and fat! You'll soon be my starter with a nice butter pat!"?!

Get a grip!

BertieBotts · 10/04/2015 23:40

I think cat would be really tough and not nice at all. Dogs are quite muscular so they'd probably be okay, I don't really fancy it though.

Bogeyface · 10/04/2015 23:41

And agree with a PP, unless you also have a moral/cute factor objection to eating any animal you are being a hypocrite.

DarthVadersTailor · 10/04/2015 23:43

I'd wrap one in bacon, top with melted cheese and chuck it in a burger bun. Maybe add onion rings......

CatthiefKeith · 10/04/2015 23:44

I'm not sure really Bogey, but the picture was horrible. She's an animal lover apparently and has pics of her cuddling ours on her profile.

I'm just surprised really. The pics weren't very nice.

Clearly I am being a twat, but they are pets, as are cats and dogs.

I am not from farming stock, obviously. Grin

Meh. Can't judge how edible a thing is just by how pretty it is. Either eat meat or don't...just because we're used to eating cow and pig, doesn't mean they aint cute too. Have you ever SEEN a cow's eyes? Gorgeous they are.

Aridane · 10/04/2015 23:47

YABU- but then I'm not particularly sentimental about animals

Cooroo · 10/04/2015 23:47

Most of the animals we're happy to eat are herbivores. Cows, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs. Cats and dogs are, to me, very different. But then aren't pigs fed meat? So bang goes my theory.

Devora · 10/04/2015 23:50

I'm very squeamish about eating any animal - I rarely have, throughout my life. But when I do, I don't really differentiate by species: my kids are horrified that I've eaten horse, rabbit and reindeer, but then I think it's hideous that they like bacon [shrugs]

cruikshank · 10/04/2015 23:52

MrsFlannel, I also think cows are beautiful. And very nurturing to their young. Until those young are forcibly removed from them and the male baby ones killed and all the milk that would have gone to the calves is instead taken from the cows and put into bottles for humans to drink instead, that is, until it dries up and they are impregnated and the entire thing happens again, and again, and again.

Hrm.

Morloth · 10/04/2015 23:55

I would eat my cat if I had to, she would eat me if necessary so fairs fair.

Housemum · 10/04/2015 23:55

I couldn't give two hoots. I have guinea pigs, but I figure that if you eat them you aren't attached to them in the same way. Likewise, SIL has rabbits but it wouldn't stop me eating rabbit (though actually I don't much like the smell or taste of it, too many rabbit stews as a child when I used to help nan skin the stinky beasts)

Patsyandeddie · 11/04/2015 00:13

Don't give them names, then they are just dinner!

TheCatsFlaps · 11/04/2015 00:18

YANBU. Although I will eat beef and pork, I draw a firm line at small furries. Cute factor? Probably, but I can live with that.

Kampeki · 11/04/2015 00:24

As you aren't vegetarian, yabu. It's no worse to eat a guinea pig than it is to eat a cow or a chicken (though I imagine a cow would be more filling. Wink)

I say this as an ex-guinea pig owner and a lapsed vegetarian who now eats fish!!

StellaAlpina · 11/04/2015 00:31

People in Italy ate cat quite a lot during WW2.

My cousins used to have a pet goat they used to take for walks around the village. I don't know if that got eaten in the end.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/04/2015 00:43

YANBtotallyU - I don't mind that people eat them but I don't want to see pics of roasted ones popping up on my FB either! Shock

I wouldn't eat them. DH would though.

42andGaffaTape · 11/04/2015 01:01

I'm allergic to guinea pigs (alive ones) I wonder if I would be allergic to their meat? Grin

pointless thought as I am vegan

Patapouf · 11/04/2015 01:02

Hahaha guinea pigs are gross overgrown hamsters so YANBU. I wouldn't like them as pets either!
