To wonder why so many people on trains become selfish.

I went to London on Tuesday this week on business and the train was extremely full with some people standing.

Why do people think it's acceptable to sit in one seat and put their bags on the one next to them in the obvious hope that no one will ask them to move it? There were also some kids sprawled out on two seats, asleep.

The train manager twice made announcements to ask for people to move bags from seats yet some people still didn't. There was plenty of room in the overhead storage so no real excuses.

Why is having someone sat next to you so bad?

Are these people as selfish in all aspects of their life do you think?

Yes it is rude but I noticed people deal with it quite well. People on the bus or train always ask the person to move their bag. 9 times out of 10 the person will move their bloody bag!!

tobysmum77 · 11/04/2015 09:49

why didn't you put your bags in the luggage rack?

Andrewofgg · 11/04/2015 09:50

Twoplus3 Perhaps you would like to buy a second ticket as cellists do on the planes?

Otherwise that's not that. From me you would get a polite offer to put it on the rack for you.

Mrsstarlord · 11/04/2015 09:58

Perhaps, Twoplus3, you should consider some other form of transport where you don't have to engage or be in close proximity to anyone else? Perhaps drive so that you can have all of the seats to yourself.

Twoplus3 · 11/04/2015 12:21

Trust me, you wouldn't be putting my bag on the floor, if I don't want some random stranger sitting next to me and invading my space, then tbey won't, simple.

Andrewofgg · 11/04/2015 12:24

A random stranger? No, a fellow passenger.

Invading your space? No, sitting next to you. On your lap would be infading your space.

mayfridaycomequickly · 11/04/2015 12:26

I'd just sit my big fat arse on it then two

trust me your shitty attitude wouldn't win when I want a seat after a long day at work.

Twoplus3 · 11/04/2015 12:28

I think it would, if I didn't want you to sit next to me, you wouldn't!

Andrewofgg · 11/04/2015 12:30

Twoplus3 have you name-changed from Elizabeth Windsor?

Just what would you do if another fare-payer put your bag in the rack and sat down?

Twoplus3 · 11/04/2015 12:32

I've never had that happen, most people wouldn't do that anyway but if they did I'd take the hell anck down.

mayfridaycomequickly · 11/04/2015 12:33

9 years of commuting daily says different. I'm not sure what makes you think you're so powerful - how would you physically stop me from removing your bag or sitting on it if you refused to move it?

Twoplus3 · 11/04/2015 12:35

Oh just be quiet will you. If you sat on my bag I'd push you off it! And if you dared pick it up to try and put it above then it would be quickly taken off you.

mayfridaycomequickly · 11/04/2015 12:39

Erm - no, I won't.
You'd push me off? Oh how you underestimate some of us commuters... if fate is kind one day my arse and your bag will meet! Grin

PuppyMonkey · 11/04/2015 12:50

Just be quiet will you? Grin

Twoplus3 · 11/04/2015 12:55

I very much doubt that.

paxtecum · 11/04/2015 12:59

Oh, I can imagine lots of hair pulling and scratching from Twoplus3 if anyone dares sit next to her and actually touches her bag.

MN certainly is an education. I never realised how entitled and selfish some people are until about two years ago when I discovered MN.

I think some posters need to take up meditation or just calm down.

Andrewofgg · 11/04/2015 13:03

paxtecum meditation or medication or both?

Cornettoninja · 11/04/2015 13:06

Never understood people who put their bags next to them. Mine is firmly in my lap or if lots of shopping between my feet. Don't you worry about your stuff getting stolen?

For those determined not to sit next to anyone then I'm sorry to have to tell you, you are shit out of luck on public transport. That's not how it's designed. If you dislike people sitting beside you the onus is on you to move or stand up.

TheClacksAreDown · 11/04/2015 13:10

Don't you know that Twoplus3 is a princess and normal rules don't her or her bag. She might have only paid for one ticket but if she wants a second seat that is for her majesty to determine and woe betide any ass that makes contact with the royal belongings.

Maybe twoplus3 will come up against some raucous passengers who may have had a tipple or two.
Could be interesting.

Shodan · 11/04/2015 13:21

Grin Grin Grin at Twoplus3 trying to come over all rufty-tufty over a bag.

tobysmum77 · 11/04/2015 13:37

Grin Grin Grin this is a windup

PunkrockerGirl · 11/04/2015 13:46

I'd pay good money to see Twoplus chucked off the train for refusing to move her bag Grin
