Totally expecting a flaming here buty local Bargain Booze is advertising Cow and Gate formula on a sandwich board outside, if nothing else it is illegal, but I also think I should probably mind my own business but it gets on my nerves. Think they should probably stick to booze. WIBU to say something to them?

Cantbelievethisishappening · 09/04/2015 22:21

I think we should just agree to disagree full

queentroutoftrouts · 09/04/2015 22:23

Yabu, you need to find a hobby and wind your neck in quite frankly.

fulltothebrim · 09/04/2015 22:24

Yes, lets agree to disagree.
Glad the law is on my side though.

landrover · 09/04/2015 22:27

They are just trying to make a bloody living!

FarFromAnyRoad · 09/04/2015 22:28

Anyone remember the kid in primary school who was forever going "Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm..............I'm telling"

You are that kid OP.

SecretNutellaFix · 09/04/2015 22:29

The advertising ban came in in 1995.

Beatrixemerald · 09/04/2015 22:30

far from- can you read???

OP posts:
queentroutoftrouts · 09/04/2015 22:30

That just made me chuckle farfrom, I I totally agree. I'm constantly amazed at the things people allow themselves to get all hot and bothered over.

I believe it was mid 90's in the EU after a few decades of international attempts.

Mothers that I have worked with have all made the decision to breastfeed

Well good for them! You clearly have no experience of the 'other' side of life when it's dangerous for some mothers to BF due to the substances they're addicted to. Go educate yourself on that. Then you can perhaps answer those mums why they are made to feel more inferior for formula feeding their children. Personally, I'm just happy to see children fed! Bargain Booze is one of those local shops the service users I work with WILL buy milk. It should be advertised and more readily available in local shops IMO.

FarFromAnyRoad · 09/04/2015 22:32

Can I read?

No.

Please don't let the fact you clearly haven't read my post get in the way of your hilarious reparte

OP posts:
LadyCatherineDeTurd · 09/04/2015 22:35

Was it on offer OP?

cakeface16 · 09/04/2015 22:36

Really surprised how happy posters are to flaunt their ignorance about the strategies and advertising behaviour of formula companies. You would be flamed on here for showing such naivety about other topics. This is not about what individual women feed their child, its about the tactics these companies use to undermine women and the ff rates show they are remarkably successful. Also a significant percentage of the cost of formula is spent on advertising so if you want cheap formula you should be an advocate for no advertising at all

fulltothebrim · 09/04/2015 22:37

No need to rant littlegrey. "These addicted mothers who are made to feel inferior" Hmm

Your post doesn't actually make much sense.

Glad the law is on my side though.

What side would that be I wonder? Hmm The law is not on 'your' side. It's pro BF and not taking into account the many people who can't/don't want to. Please explain "sides".

Personally, I do not view how people CHOOSE to feed their child as taking 'sides'. I see it as personal choice or need.

RowRowRowCrocodileScream · 09/04/2015 22:42

Surely the ff rates are an example of correlation rather than causation Hmm

LittleGreyCar · 09/04/2015 22:42

No need to rant littlegrey. "These addicted mothers who are made to feel inferior"

Well let me spell it out for you. They already feel inferior being substance users (many in recovery). They are made to feel inferior due to having to use formula to feed their children. How hard is it to understand? Or are you too entrenched in your PAID BF job to understand that?

fulltothebrim · 09/04/2015 22:43

little grey- this comment is in response to cantbelieve suggesting that we disagree. The "sides" were her and mine- not about ff and bfeeding. Calm down.

LittleGreyCar · 09/04/2015 22:44

Re-read the post. Is it SO hard to understand?

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 09/04/2015 22:45

AHEM

SoupDragon · 09/04/2015 22:49

"Formula is bloody overpriced as it is"

Might that be in part because there's an idiot law in place which says it cannot be sold at a discounted rate unlike, for example, nappies or jars of baby food?

Well, there is no law to say it can't be sold at a permanently discounted price.

I wonder how much it costs to produce and how much profit they are making?

fulltothebrim · 09/04/2015 22:51

No I don't really understand. I don;t understand why you are getting so hot under the collar.
THis is about the OP feeling stongly about a topic, and is annoyed about a retailer breaking the law. You may not agree with the law, but many of us do.
There would be other occasions that I would also repost a violation- if I saw a car being broken into if I saw a butcher selling sausages full of sawdust, if I saw a retailer removing old sell by dates.

Some of us may turn a blind eye and feel it's none of out business, others would feel that motivated to report it- what is so bad about that?

Actually it isn't pro breastfeeding, it is anti formula companies and unethical practices. It has nothing to do with being anti formula feeding.
