Totally expecting a flaming here buty local Bargain Booze is advertising Cow and Gate formula on a sandwich board outside, if nothing else it is illegal, but I also think I should probably mind my own business but it gets on my nerves. Think they should probably stick to booze. WIBU to say something to them?

The obvious course of action would be to ring the Daily Mail and pose by the sign with a sad face surely.

ghostyslovesheep · 09/04/2015 20:56

mmmmm Vodka ...

fulltothebrim · 09/04/2015 20:57

You have WAY too much time on your hands hmm.

No, I have actively worked within the area of breastfeeeding for 14 years. What's more I get paid to do it.

LittleGreyCar · 09/04/2015 20:58

Yeah the idea of getting wasted whilst looking after your child is indeed hilarious

Of course, people will pop in for formula and buy a bottle of wine to get wasted. Those bloody FF mothers!

Beatrixemerald · 09/04/2015 20:58

Yes that would be a brilliant idea as we know the Daily Mail is pro breastfeeding Confused

Meh. I get why the law exists but I can't see why anyone would care in this case.

seaoflove · 09/04/2015 20:58

There is a special place in hell reserved for life's petty reporters. At least, I hope there is.

Indeed. I wish The self appointed members of the Formula Police, who get their knickers in a twist over formula legislation and breaches thereof, (who, incidentally, have never needed to give their babies formula in their lives) would just wind their bloody necks in. Seriously, find something better to clutch your pearls over.

ghostyslovesheep · 09/04/2015 20:59

I am well aware of Baby Milk Action - it's why I boycott Nestle - but this is a sign outside a small shop - I think I'll save my outrage for the pushing of baby milk to women who don't have access to safe water and sterilising equipment than women in the UK who have plenty of access to info about their feeding choices

Beatrixemerald · 09/04/2015 20:59

If you get why the law exists in what case would it not be ok then?

So, you get paid to report the advertising of formula? That's a fantastic use of your time.

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2015 21:00

Does the DM have a stance on BF? I have no idea. Confused Maybe your local paper then OP, depending on how much they care i guess.

GlitteringJasper · 09/04/2015 21:00

Why does seeing formula advertised put you in such a high state of anxiety? What do you think will happen as a result?

NerrSnerr · 09/04/2015 21:02

I think it is hugely patronising to think that parents who choose to formula feed do it because they are swayed by advertising or boots points.

I am aware of the laws, I personally don't agree with them.

fulltothebrim · 09/04/2015 21:03

So, you get paid to report the advertising of formula? That's a fantastic use of your time.

No I didn't say that.

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2015 21:03

People that FF might quite like to know about offers and shops selling it-useful info.

Beatrixemerald · 09/04/2015 21:04

Haha it really doesn't, it bugs me due to experience in the retail sector and an example of crap retailing

I'm going to have to hand you a grip here OP.

Something tells me this not the slick marketing operation of the evil formula manufacturer. BB are a franchise. This (probably) a small family business not being up on these rules and doing a one off promo on formula. No one but no one is going to stop bf because Bargain booze are selling formula cheap once.

Leave it be.

I think it hugely naiive to think that advertising does not influence people.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 09/04/2015 21:10

I think it's hugely patronising to think that people will bin off breast feeding based on handwritten offers for cut price formula outside Bargain Booze. And I am a breast feeder Hmm

flamingoland · 09/04/2015 21:10

God, get a grip or a hobby. Or better still, treat yourself to some booze in bargain booze

Cantbelievethisishappening · 09/04/2015 21:10

Advertising follow on milk allows manufacturers to promote their brand and name

Good. At least mothers will know what is available.

PunkrockerGirl · 09/04/2015 21:12

Dial 101, 999 whatever. Seriously if this offends you so much, vary your route a little or otherwise get a fucking grip.

Staywithme · 09/04/2015 21:16

Would it not be a better idea to point out to the business that what they are doing is illegal rather than reporting them. You have no idea if they are struggling and this could be the straw that breaks their back. They may not be aware of the law and I would hate to think of a small business going under or someone being put out of a job because of some, in my opinion, silly law. Take them in the relevant information and if they're unwilling to remove it, then by all means report them. However I think you could view this as a way of helping them instead of punishing them.

Beatrixemerald · 09/04/2015 21:18

Staywithme - that was what I was suggesting in my OP Smile
