Gifts, am I doing it wrong?

OK, I don't think IAMBU but am prepared to be told I am.

I have a sil and 2 dns, for birthdays, christmas and easter etc I get them a card and a voucher, i get vouchers as I think they can then go to the shops and choose what they want.

This is where the AIBU comes in, i sent the dns gifts with a family member as we were away and then so was sil. I hear through the grapevine (I'm being vague here in case sil is on here) that she is very pissed off as they have not had a gift for years as vouchers are nothing.

This is despite the fact that our ds had nothing from her. So AIBU in sending vouchers? I do not know what toys they already have and figured the vouchers could be saved up to get a bigger gift?

To be honest I am holding my tongue here and am inclined to tell a few home truths but I thought I would get the opinion of others first.

Flame away if I am in the wrong.

DoingTheBestICan Vouchers are perfectly fine, she is very rude. Perhaps send the children a few pounds in a card instead, if you can afford it, or just continue with the vouchers as you have been. Regardless of her mean attitude towards your son, you probably really don't want to lower yourself to her level.
However, if you must.... I think your sil is the perfect person to receive a glitter bomb. Wink

For unwanted gift cards, eBay them, or sell them. www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-great-websites-sell-buy-unwanted-gift-cards/

Yes I have posted about her before complaining about the card we sent her. She definitely was the one moaning as she has texted me to tell me so.

Fuck her op, she accepts the vouchers and gets your DC nothing, so like for like, you get slagged off for sending a gift, so you may as well get slagged off for not sending one.

I love vouchers, I wish people would give me vouchers instead of the candles/chocolates/wine that i get every year.

When you say you have heard on the grapevine. Could you have heard wrong and be getting yourself annoyed over nothing?

DoingTheBestICan · 10/04/2015 18:14

No, she has text me herself so it's straight from the horses mouth, I've simply replied with fine, no problem she can expect nothing from us in the future.

So far there has been no reply.

She does sound rude and ungrateful. The problem is hers, not yours, so don't feel bad.

On the question of vouchers, they're good in some cases, but care is needed in choosing. My DC were once sent a TicketMaster voucher each - that was a bit like having £10 towards a Gucci watch when you didn't really want one.
