It's warm here, I'm sat outside basking in the sun, listening to 90s classics. I've just heard my neighbour complain loudly about the "bloody noise" to her dh. It's not loud at all. So aibu to ignore them and carry on listening to Shania twain, backstreet boys, bwitched etcetc? Grin

So you play your music, next doors plays theirs, next door but one plays theirs - you'd just end up with a complete racket as you all turn it up to hear your own music over the neighbours.
Enjoying music in the garden relies on nobody else around you being selfish enough to play theirs too.

Why would you make your neighbours listen to your music when you can use headphones?
YABU big style.

Mowing = ok
Talking = ok
BBQ'ing = ok
Kids playing = ok but only after 9??

Kids mindlessly screaming = not ok
Music = NOT ok
Talk radio = possibly ok if very quiet
Dog barking = NOT OK unless just a quick yap
Goose or chicken that honk, honk, honk, honk, honk, honk, honk, for ages at the crack of dawn = NOT OK (I'm looking at you neighbours)
Late night talking and laughing = NOT ok especially on a school night
VERY Occasional loud party = ???? maybe OK - IF you check with all your neighbours and give them a finish time (12?) and stick to it.

You are being selfish. Use headphones or do without. Read a book.

Georgina1975 · 06/04/2015 17:21

Agree 100%.

I find it really intrusive and really hate it.

We had some "doof doof" music last summer for hours on end 3 houses down. I went around and asked them to STFU (nicely) - other neighbours too scared. Luckily they did a moonlight flit a few days later.

Pipbin · 06/04/2015 17:21

Yabu OP, there are no 90s classics. All music stopped be Classic at the end of the 80s.

Personally I do find music coming from someones garden annoying, but it depends on the volume and the music.
Loud thudding bass pisses me off.
Music at the kind of volume you are talking about, not so bad.

I do get annoyed at noise from other people's gardens tbh and I'm happy that neither of my immediate neighbours use their gardens.
I think people who listen to music outside have to be aware that it will annoy others even if you think it's ok.
I don't like the 'it's my garden and I'll do what I please' attitude from some people.
Just because its not late doesn't mean it's not annoying.

MiddleAgedandConfused · 06/04/2015 17:22

UAprilFool - that's a good list. Agree with almost all of it.

Someone used the words selfish pigs. I agree.

TheFutureMrsB · 06/04/2015 17:32

YANBU it's life Wink I'd rather music than listen to grown men (neighbours I mean you) chatting about wanking over their cars ... Seriously Confused

MistressMerryWeather · 06/04/2015 17:33

Your neighbor sounds like a miserable git.

I'm guessing you don't blast music everyday? So what's the problem with a little low music in your back garden on a sunny bank holiday?

My neighbors currently have the best of the 80's playing right now, DH and I have been bopping about our kitchen to it. :o

They are normally lovely and quiet so I can't complain.

ToysRLuv · 06/04/2015 17:34

YABU. I would put some of my 90's classics (rave tunes, house, breakbeat) on louder to drown your shit out. Luckily everyone around here gets that you don't unnecessarily inflict your music on anyone outdoors.

maliaki · 06/04/2015 17:34

poster tobysmum77 bonfires are really really annoying. We used to have a neighbour who would always light one as soon as someone put washing out. He wasn't happy one day when someone sprayed it with water.

Kasterborous · 06/04/2015 17:38

I hate hearing others music in the garden in summer it really irritates me. I must admit I'm probably a bit irrational about it but it's one of those things I hate.

Why not? :)

BoatsAgainstTheCurrent · 06/04/2015 17:42

Fuuuck. You'd have thought the OP had installed huge surround sound speakers and a fucking DJ. Easter Grin

An iPad on half volume is ok...

ToysRLuv · 06/04/2015 17:43

I see your Cliff and opera and raise modern classical. Seemingly random sounds and noises, cacophony... You wouldn't necessarily find a consistent beat to "bop" to.

SirChenjin · 06/04/2015 17:43

April - good list
