It's warm here, I'm sat outside basking in the sun, listening to 90s classics. I've just heard my neighbour complain loudly about the "bloody noise" to her dh. It's not loud at all. So aibu to ignore them and carry on listening to Shania twain, backstreet boys, bwitched etcetc? Grin

Headphones people, headphones.

LilMissSunshine9 · 06/04/2015 21:24

what do people in terraced houses do - I live in one and if its quiet I can even hear my neighbour sneezing and coughing! Maybe I should go tell him to stop sneezing and coughing as its disturbing my right to peace and quiet in my house Confused

NB He has persistent cough so its not a one off moment

Pipbin · 06/04/2015 21:53

But you can't help coughing and sneezing. You can help playing music. (I am talking about unsociably loud music here, not relatively quiet music like the OP)

toots111 oh good, glad to know there are more of our kind! Although after this weekend's glorious sunshine pouring over the mountains behind me I'll be damned if I'm going anywhere! Especially know that I know the huge potential for being on the receiving end of tuts, sighs and sinister eye rolling every time we get the bongos tablet out

ihatelego · 06/04/2015 22:11

yabu if it's loud.. not sure how loud 5 on a tablet is but if the neighbours are complaining i'd turn it down/off personally.

Instituteofstudies · 06/04/2015 22:24

I love melancholy sacred choral music, and i also play the accordian and violin. I'm not v good at the accordian but I feel sure if I could devote a few hours a day to it, I'd really improve. I can play it quietly though. For those who say it's 'your garden so do what you want' - how would you feel about a hot sunny day having to listen to it? There is no way I'd play my music outside so my poor neighbours had no choice but to hear it. I don't expect my neighbours to make me listen to theirs. It's an intrusion.

MagicMojito · 06/04/2015 22:29

MoveAlongNow I had a childish little giggle reading that your dh gets his bongoes out for the neighbors Blush

Patsyandeddie · 06/04/2015 22:50

Fuck em, as long as it's not 4am and every night at full volume!!

SistersOfPercy · 06/04/2015 22:59

My neighbour loves cliff Richard. She would no more subject me to that in her garden than I would subject her to my metallica discography.
I really don't want to listen to other people's music choices. That's what head phones are for.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 07/04/2015 00:56

Well the water went very well

Scared123A1 · 07/04/2015 01:08

So I've had to listen to my neighbours kids screaming for the last 90 minutes. Honestly blood curdling screams. They were repeatedly dive bombing into their pool. DH's has a home office and even he was disturbed. DD struggled to nap.

Give me volume 5 on an iPad any day of the week.

maddy68 · 07/04/2015 19:10

I have had to endure take that on repeat all bloody afternoon from my neighbours. It's like torture
Use headphones or at least put it on low.

Cornettoninja · 07/04/2015 19:35

I live in a terrace and go by 'beach rules' with occasional exceptions but not taking the piss.

Basically I wouldn't listen to my music on the beach without headphones so don't do it in the garden. Every now and then we or one of the neighbours will have a party or bbq and the occasional noisy evenings are accepted because none of us take the piss with it.

Makes for much nicer atmospheres if you don't needlessly irritate people when you know it's an issue imho.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/04/2015 07:11

I sing when I'm gardening! Apparently my NDN likes it! However it makes her cockerel go nuts!

spancake · 09/04/2015 21:14

I think yab a little bit u. Unfortunately not everyone is a fan of 90s classics, and music doesn't stop dead at your garden boundary, and your neighbours are entitled to use their garden in peace. If you want to listen to music whilst in your garden use headphones!!

Harvey246 · 09/04/2015 21:40

Have to say I find this really annoying. You might be in the mood to listen to music but a lot of your neighbours may just want some quiet time relaxing in the garden.

Lucymill · 09/04/2015 21:52

Have experienced this very thing for the last two days. Sitting in my garden reading my book, enjoying the sunshine. Ndn puts on music sooooo loud, opens all the windows and back door but doesn't venture outside once. I would get it more if they were sitting in the garden but they weren't. Just inflicting their truly dire, extremely loud music on everyone in the surrounding gardens. Found it very bizarre behaviour but not really surprised tbh. Every time I looked up I saw ndn looking angrily out one of their windows. Not sure if they were attempting to get me to go inside and the volume kept getting turned up.Hmm
I ended up putting my headphones in blocking out the rubbish and spent a blissful afternoon listening to my musicGrin
But, op yours doesn't sound like it was anywhere near that volume!

scarletforya · 09/04/2015 21:57

Yabvu, Bewitched?

I'd fume if my neighbors inflicted that shite on me.

jamdonut · 09/04/2015 22:08

I live in a terrace. When next door decides to have music on in the garden it is really annoying. What makes you think that everyone else wants to listen to your music? I love loud rock music, but I wouldn't inflict it on everyone else. What is worse is when more than one neighbour thinks its a good idea, so the cacophony of different tunes completely ruins sitting out in the garden. Please don't do it!

Sunnymeg · 10/04/2015 15:50

Our next door neighbours have three lads who each play an instrument. We are both in detached properties. They often play in their conservatory with the windows open. They are all accomplished musicians and what they play is quiet and tasteful (think, flute, violin, oboe). However our dog barks incessently when he can hear them.

MaidOfStars · 10/04/2015 16:10

I play music into garden. Loud enough that I can hear it as I move around.

The odd shape of our road and the one behind means that three neighbours back onto one side of our fence. Neighbours on both left and right have their children's' trampolines right up against our fence, as far from their houses as possible, of course. Neighbour in middle has a loud motorbike which he revs all weekend. I'd love to have one of them complain.

We have another neighbour at the side but they are childless, the same age, and share exactly the same taste in music. Sometimes we listen to theirs, sometimes they listen to ours Grin

QueenFuri · 10/04/2015 16:15

As long as it's not Westlife I don't mind. I am playing a selection of 90s rock and grunge this afternoon I'm sure to my neighbours delight. YANBU it's only music I like music especially in the summer outside.

Trenzalore · 10/04/2015 17:01

keep it to your bloody self.

put headphones on, its so bloody anti sicial and a noise niusance.

TedAndLola · 10/04/2015 17:22

"2 POVs here.

  1. I can do what I want in my own back garden and if it disturbs anybody else that's just tough.
  2. I realise that I live in a shared space so I will be considerate to those around me."

Yep.
