Cult kids things you just don't "get" - Frozen, Where The Wild Things Are

Frozen, sorry folks I just don't understand why it is so popular and why do lots of small girls want to be Elsa, Anna is much more heroic.

Where the Wild Things Are - I understand it, well I think I do, but I don't rate it as one of the great books, good illustrations but hey.

Also I struggle a bit with some Oliver Jeffers stuff - Stuck - my DS loves it.

They want to be Elsa because she's blonde and her dress is nicer. That's all.

Where the Wild Things Are...I don't see the attraction either...I mean it's a nice book but meh.

I also feel the Gruffalo is annoyingly popular. It's SO boring and repetitive!

Pyjamaschocolateandwine · 03/04/2015 12:58

Maybe because they are aimed at children and so unfathomable to adults, Grin

pourmeanotherglass · 03/04/2015 13:00

minecraft, Zoella, stampy

ToysRLuv · 03/04/2015 13:00

Yes, came on this thread to say for us it's Gruffalo. DS never warmed to it eat all. But there is this massive hype about it being sooo good. Also, he doesn't care at all about Frozen. Never wanted to read Where the Wild Things Are.

glenthebattleostrich · 03/04/2015 13:01

Elsa can do ice magic and build castles.

Oliver Jeffers is a mad genius, the lack of sense makes him ace.

FishCanFly · 03/04/2015 13:02

Minecraft. I really don't get whats all the fuss about

MyNameIsSuz · 03/04/2015 13:10

I don't get the love of minions. I saw the film and it was ok but they were the worst bit, they irritated the shit out of me.

QueQuesto · 03/04/2015 13:11

Lego. Fecking stupid fiddly fucking bits that mostly end up in the hoover.

chickenfuckingpox · 03/04/2015 13:16

minecraft - virtual world of lego which doesnt get up the hoover but still gets on your nerves

fattymcChocolateEgg · 03/04/2015 13:17

elsa is magic.
minecraft is strangely addictive.
lego is awesome.
the gruffalo is amazing. the mouse is so clever and brave in little heads (I know this as this is what my DS said when he had to write about it at school)

I don't get what is so good about being awake at stupid times in the morning Easter Grin

fattymcChocolateEgg · 03/04/2015 13:17

oh and I want a minion Easter Blush

sneepy · 03/04/2015 13:19

Where the Wild Things Are taps into the most basic human need: to be lived unconditionally. Basically Max acts like a complete twat and his mum gets mad, then he has a major tantrum. And his mum still brings his dinner up to him and sets it out nicely on his little table... It's the most comforting thing you can read to a child. I'm amazed that anybody wouldn't "get" that.

sneepy · 03/04/2015 13:19

*loved

BakewellSlice · 03/04/2015 13:23

Pokemon and Thomas the Tank.

ImCatbug · 03/04/2015 13:24

Thomas the fucking tank engine. All the trains/cars/whatever are so rude to each other, and they are punished by crashing/being left to rust/being bricked into the engine shed (!!) and just generally ganged up on by other characters. It's a horrible thing for little kids to read/watch, I don't get it!

BakewellSlice · 03/04/2015 13:24

It's inexplicable isn't it Catbug?

MrsPeterQuill · 03/04/2015 13:25

Yep, Elsa has magic. When I was little I wanted to be Wonder Woman for the same reasons (if I'm honest, I still do Blush

We love the Gruffalo but prefer Romm on the Broom and Stickman.

Trid doing minecraft myself when my kids started with it, but didn't have the patience to dig all those blocks out.

They also love minions and my dd has started collecting beanie babies. The house is sodding overrun with the bastard things.

larrygrylls · 03/04/2015 13:26

'Where the wild things are' was the first of many many derivatives. There were few children's books and very limited television when it came out. The illustrations are still amazing but were spellbinding in the context in which they were created; some of the monsters were genuinely frightening.

winewolfhowls · 03/04/2015 13:27

Yes yes yes to Thomas. Terrible characters.

fattymcChocolateEgg · 03/04/2015 13:28

pokemon is awesome too! I watched it as a child myself. I was 4 when it first came out.
I would love to have a little electric mouse sat on my shoulder

fattymcChocolateEgg · 03/04/2015 13:29

I think thomas is more a fascination with things that have wheels.
but yep the characters are right twats Grin

SantanaLopez · 03/04/2015 13:32

DD is terrified of the Gruffalo Grin

BakewellSlice · 03/04/2015 13:32

Pokemon is totaLLY weird to me as I 've never watched a full episode. I did have to pay attention to Thomas and grudgingly I'll say it worked on the level of HATING the obnoxious Gordon!

fatlazymummy · 03/04/2015 13:34

I hate the Frozen song, typical disney musical shite. Thankfully I've never had to watch the film. I would say anything disney doesn't really appeal to me, tbh. My kids usually preferred other things though.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 03/04/2015 13:34

Watched Frozen with dd for the first (and last) time the other week and couldn't believe how really awfully bad it is. And I have 3 huge shelves of kids' films. Disney, Pixar, Japanese, the lot.
Frozen is probably the only one I will refuse to ever sit through again.
