Cult kids things you just don't "get" - Frozen, Where The Wild Things Are

Frozen, sorry folks I just don't understand why it is so popular and why do lots of small girls want to be Elsa, Anna is much more heroic.

Where the Wild Things Are - I understand it, well I think I do, but I don't rate it as one of the great books, good illustrations but hey.

Also I struggle a bit with some Oliver Jeffers stuff - Stuck - my DS loves it.

My friend has two boys who are totally obsessed with Frozen.

Moreisnnogedag · 04/04/2015 13:32

Yeah you don't get out of frozen just because you have boys. Ds loves it mainly for the reindeer I think and I'm quite partial to it

Ugh yes fireman Sam. Tosser.

StillLostAtTheStation · 04/04/2015 13:34

And bloody Can't You Sleep, Little Bear? How on earth has Big Bear not lost his shit? "Little Bear tried, and tried, and tried to go to sleep, but couldn't." Accompanied by pictures of Little bear generally knobbing about, cartwheels and handstands on the bed etc little sod!

I loved these books and so did my son. I don't remember it exactly now but one of them ends with Big Bear pointing out the moon which was really beautiful. Also loved Farmer Duck and Owl Babies.

StillLostAtTheStation · 04/04/2015 13:35

Postman Pat on the other hand was dreary.

FishCanFly · 04/04/2015 13:52

Oh, Star Wars. Before my dc became interested, i couldn't force myself to watch that. So bloody BORING

DrankSangriaInThePark · 04/04/2015 13:56

I have so many star wars geek friends that they must never read this, but I agree, it's dated, it's not well written, or acted, there are obviously polystyrene rocks everywhere....it's just a bit shit really.

ToysRLuv · 04/04/2015 14:53

Owl Babies is horrible. DS hated it - no wonder!

Star Wars is boring.

FryOneFatManic · 04/04/2015 15:37

A Christian like myself would say that they are following the structure of the story of Jesus, because it is a narrative structure that resonates deep within us.

I'd say the structure was much older than the story of Jesus. It shows up in most ancient mythologies.

UseHerName · 04/04/2015 15:41

Shopkins!

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 04/04/2015 17:20

That'swhat I was thinking Fatfries - loads of pre christian religions feature a diety who dies and is resurected - it wasn't an original storyline even c.2000 years ago.

meowth · 04/04/2015 17:24

I never got Yu Gi Oh. I'm an adult and STILL play pokémon, albeit competitively.
yy to Where the Wild Things Are. freaks me out!

PizzaFingers · 04/04/2015 17:24

Peppa Pig.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 04/04/2015 17:25

Neither my boys nor my girl are interested in Frozen thankfully. I like The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe despite the dodgy evangelism - thankfully it's too subtle to convert any small children, though maybe the idea is to be more insidious and plant some kind of time bomb in the back of innocent, plaint young minds Shock Wink

lertgush · 04/04/2015 20:02

I love Where the Wild Things Are. Haven't seen the film and don't really want to but the book makes me cry when I read it to my kids.

BalloonSlayer · 04/04/2015 21:14

Heavy sigh . . . that's exactly what I MEANT about atheists having a more cynical view. As a Christian I am not going to come out and say it am I . . .? Grin

Caboodle · 06/04/2015 12:04

YABU...Oliver Jeffers is genius and Stuck is our favourite.

YANBU re crap like Minecraft.

As for those who don't like Dahl...Have. You. No. Soul?

EastMidsMummy · 06/04/2015 12:15

Also, what was that thing where these creepy people in foam outfits pretended to be in a nursery that had the well dodgy old man always hanging round?

Tweenies. Evil and creepy.

gemdrop84 · 06/04/2015 14:32

Minecraft. I mean really what's the point?! Go play with crap loads of Lego instead kids!

buildmeabuttercup · 06/04/2015 14:43

muddlewitch my dd is crazy about suprise eggs on youtube. I'm so glad she isn't the only one! Never heard of it before, they are mind numbing.

stevienickstophat · 06/04/2015 14:48

The Rainbow Fish.

The message appears to be 'give people stuff and they'll like you.'
Hmm

bythewindsailors · 06/04/2015 15:21

Stampy longnose is the most irritating person on the planet closely followed by dan from the diamond minecart.
I can't for the life of me figure out turbo dismount (computer game for the uninitiated) or goat simulator (another game).

What is going on with the almost naked animals; I hate them with a passion, they look hideous.
Agree with the many about Thomas The tank engine. I don't want to bring my children up in a world where being really useful is the best you can hope for. Luckily my kods hated it.
Feel much better for getting that off my chest! Thanks op!

bythewindsailors · 06/04/2015 15:23

Oh, and we all hate frozen! (Ds's are 5 and 8).

pootlebug · 06/04/2015 15:24

Lord of the sodding rings

watchingthedetectives · 06/04/2015 15:41

All of the Mr Men books - tedious and repetitive shite (and the Little Miss)

Agree on Thomas the Tank and Postman Pat again like watching paint dry

Straycatblue · 06/04/2015 16:58

This clip sums up Frozen for me :D
