Cult kids things you just don't "get" - Frozen, Where The Wild Things Are

Frozen, sorry folks I just don't understand why it is so popular and why do lots of small girls want to be Elsa, Anna is much more heroic.

Where the Wild Things Are - I understand it, well I think I do, but I don't rate it as one of the great books, good illustrations but hey.

Also I struggle a bit with some Oliver Jeffers stuff - Stuck - my DS loves it.

Hello Kitty - why . What . Why.

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 03/04/2015 22:14

Just thought of a few film and tv ones I do not get.

Star Wars - now I don't think they're terrible (lets just forget Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks!), but to me, there's nothing OMG special about the films. I much prefer the Indiana Jones triology (there are only three Angry).

In the same vain, Harry Potter. The books are very good. Not the best writing but excellent, imaginative plot. The films, just awful. I don't understand how they made such a mess of it. If the whole franchise was just films, not books, I wouldn't have gone beyond the first.

To finish - the Big Bang Theory. I hate this show with a passion. The characters are such stereotypes, the lines are weak, it has no realism what so ever, who actually finds it funny? 'Bazinga' seriously?? Frasier did this show in a far more clever, funny way years ago.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 03/04/2015 22:22

Roald Dahl

I never read any when I was younger then the DSs hated it and I have to agree. DS1 actually cried when they got Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as their class book - rest of the class were cheering!

Ilovehamabeads · 03/04/2015 22:28

Stampyfuckinglongnose.

QueQuesto · 03/04/2015 22:39

I hate Dr Seuss too, load of old shite.

MrsMarigold · 03/04/2015 22:42

sneepy, I got all of that with WTWTA but still the meal left in his room is a bit cool. Lovely illustrations though, just I don't like the writing.

Another one who doesn't 'get' Frozen. I have a Tom boy dd, two boys and now a very girly 4 year old dd. I'm not remotely girly so I'm struggling with her love of Else, princesses and feckin pink clothes!

Ghirly · 03/04/2015 22:47

That should say "love of Elsa"...... Autocorrect

motherofmonster · 03/04/2015 22:58

Moshi monsters and zomblings... What's the point of them? Apart from getting wedged in the sodding hoover

BlueCanaryOverByTheLightSwitch · 03/04/2015 23:04

I've not read the WTWTA book, but watch the film on recommendation from a friend.
Ds and me were a bit Hmm it seemed to me quite dark and depressing. Both ds after were empty/sad/low? Can't think how to describe them. They just asked not to watch it again.

FreudiansSlipper · 03/04/2015 23:21

Harry Potter

I know it is not just for children but I find it very boring and something very stuffy about it

Half way through the first film I was bored and cringing at the awful child actors

sadly its ds new obsession Hmm just as I was getting into Star Wars

The Grufallo is wonderful I miss reading this to ds we watched the dvd the other day and I we thoroughly enjoyed it Grin

TheInEggibleChocEatingBunny · 03/04/2015 23:25

I love WTWTA and Oliver Jeffers.

I can't stand Roald Dahl or Quentin Blake. Dahl's stories all seem to meander along with some silly pointless stuff happening until a crisis occurs near the end which is resolved quickly with all the loose ends being tied up far too neatly and simplistically. And Blake's art just looks messy and gives me the impression that none of the characters in Dahl's books ever wash.

I don't get Minecraft either, and Stampylongnose is so annoying.

I never liked Thomas either. I just don't get what's so fascinating about trains.

FreudiansSlipper · 03/04/2015 23:31

I could not stand Thomas

thankfully ds never got into Thomas. I always switched over and convinced ds he would prefer to watch something else

SoMauve · 03/04/2015 23:32

technobabble · 03/04/2015 23:42

I don't get Thomas The Tank either. My DD went through a Thomas stage, the books are beyond dull, and the TV programme (the modern one, not the Ringo version) was cringeworthy.

Pokemon. Again my DD will happily watch this, and I must have sat through several episodes myself, but I never have a fucking clue what's going on.

SoMauve · 03/04/2015 23:43

It can be quite fun responding to every request in a Pikachu Voice.

Salmotrutta · 03/04/2015 23:45

I dislike Harry Potter intensely.

My kids are grown up and too old to have been indoctrinated by Harry Potter but I read one of them because some friends were ranting about them.

Not an original idea in sight, clunky style, dull.

I love where the wild things are.

My dc's like to watch Charlie the Unicorn (on you tube I think).
Its odd,but in a likeable way.

ThatBloodyWoman · 03/04/2015 23:55

JD's Tyrannosaurus Drip is brilliant, and a lovely sing songy one to read.

exmrs · 04/04/2015 00:03

Glad someone else doesn't get Star Wars , thought it was just me who finds it very boring and cannot understand the hype at all

MustBeLoopy390 · 04/04/2015 00:04

Peppa pig. Why the frick anyone likes that horrible spoilt brat I don't know! And bloody Can't You Sleep, Little Bear? How on earth has Big Bear not lost his shit? "Little Bear tried, and tried, and tried to go to sleep, but couldn't." Accompanied by pictures of Little bear generally knobbing about, cartwheels and handstands on the bed etc Hmm little sod!

Shock
Family saga?
Dynasty?
In the air? (I think you mean space there)

Good thing I'm half laying down already, but gasping for air.

What you are saying you do not know.
