At 5'3 and 10 stone 11lbs. I know I'm overweight but not by that much!

BreconBeBuggered · 26/03/2015 11:20

So who says you do?

justbatteringon · 26/03/2015 11:21

What's your size where are you shopping that says you need plus size?

hellsbellsmelons · 26/03/2015 11:21

It depends on body shape but I'm the same height and just over 9st 7lbs and I still wear my size 10's.
In fairness they fit far better when I'm 8st something but still....!!
When I was at my biggest - over 11 and a half stone - I was still only a size 14-16!
So based on my experience - NO you do not need plus size clothes.

TheMoa · 26/03/2015 11:25

I depends on where you shop.

In some places anything over a 10 is regarded as plus-sized.

Nearly 12st at 5 foot 3 is difficult to pull off though.

I'm 5'2, and at anything over 9st end up in size 14-16.

Apatite1 · 26/03/2015 11:32

I'm five one, nearly 11 stone and I wear size 12. I am swamped in a size 16, some size 14 I can sometimes fit into but mostly too big. I can only assume I'm quite densely packed and carry weight on my limbs though. Isn't it funny how weight and dress size don't always correlate that well?

Also, shop size varies a lot, I shop at toast, brora, LK bennet etc. I can't get into a topshop size 12!

Bambambini · 26/03/2015 11:33

I think you sound quite overweight Tbh. What size are you and what sizes are classed as plus sizes anyway?

happygirl87 · 26/03/2015 11:39

TheMoa, OP is ten stone 11, not nearly 12 stone...

CadieAgain · 26/03/2015 11:39

I'm that weight and height but my arms and legs are thin - it's all belly and boobs. Trying to lose two more stones because I'm worried about visceral fat.

I can comfortably wear size 14 jeans from Next but they are notorious for vanity sizing Sad

Sunshinesunflower · 26/03/2015 11:42

'Quite overweight' Shock

TheMoa · 26/03/2015 11:45

Sorry, happygirl you're right.

Still not out of the realms of plus-sized though. It depends on how you're built I guess. I'm not at all athletic so any extra weight is pure fat, and it shows.

Sporty types might weigh the same and be perfectly slim and toned.

lostinindia · 26/03/2015 11:47

I'm 5.3 and I've been 10.11 at my heaviest. I remained a size 8 - 10 on top and a 10 - 12 on bottom. I've got big legs and arms though and that's where the weight goes. My waist always stays small but my butt gets wider. So what's made you mention plus size clothing?

NeedABumChange · 26/03/2015 11:48

I would think that is definitely plus size, sorry OP- unless you are solid muscle or a very odd shape.

Most peoples opinions on plus size are so skewed nowadays as the average person is fat. But at only 5'3 I would think anything over 10 stone is quite overweight. I'm 5ft and feel very uncomfortable at anything over 9stone.

There's nothing wrong with plus size. The clothes are designed for bigger people so should be a lot more flattering on your frame.

CrystalCove · 26/03/2015 11:48

TheMoa how is 10 stone 11 nearly 12 stone?

Springtimeconcert · 26/03/2015 11:55

Plus size as in Evans etc.? Honestly?

OP posts:
RoganJosh · 26/03/2015 11:58

Looking at mybodygallery.com I'd guess you should be a 14 or 16.

Can depend a lot on your build what your actual measurements are though. I don't think we can really comment on your clothes size.

MrsCakesPrecognitionisSwitched · 26/03/2015 11:59

Well Evans goes from a size 14 - so their sizing overlaps with just about every other retailer I can think of.

Why do you/someone else think you need to shop in Evans?

Nannyplum2015 · 26/03/2015 11:59

What size clothes do you usually wear? Who said you needed to shop there?

Springtimeconcert · 26/03/2015 12:01

12!

OP posts:
Springtimeconcert · 26/03/2015 12:02

Size 14 at Evans are massive! I have worn trousers at a 14 from there for maternity as there aren't any maternity shops here!

OP posts:
clare8allthepies · 26/03/2015 12:04

I'm 5 foot 2 and weigh that at the minute, have lost 11 pounds so far (at 11 st 8 I was still in a 14 but only just) now comfortably in a 14 so definitely not plus size! I expect to be in a 12 at about the 10 stone mark and in a 10 at about 9 stone.

Jackie0 · 26/03/2015 12:05

I'm so confused by this post.
It only makes sense if someone has told you you need plus size clothes, has anyone suggested this?
Has someone suggested you should shop at Evans?
To think you don't need plus sized clothes is reasonable yes, you can think anything you want.

MrsCakesPrecognitionisSwitched · 26/03/2015 12:05

But Zara stock up to an 18 and I bet you wouldn't be flapping if someone suggested you shop there.

So what exactly is the problem? What has happened?

MrsFlannel · 26/03/2015 12:06

Well...you're almost 11 stone. That's quite overweight for someone who is only 5.3 so yabu.

I am overweight too so I can say that. I'm 5.6 and almost 11 and a half stones...I know that's not significant but it's still overweight. Given you're 3 inches shorter than me...

Springtimeconcert · 26/03/2015 12:07

Someone at a toddler group alluded to it. I'm being a bit vague as I don't want to be identified but the gist was that I was looking forward to being back in normal clothes after my pregnancy and I was going to go shopping and plus sizes were ... Mentioned!

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 26/03/2015 12:09

Depends on your body shape and composition - if quite muscular I'm fairly sure you wouldn't be in plus sized clothing.
