At 5'3 and 10 stone 11lbs. I know I'm overweight but not by that much!

OP posts:

I suppose a lot boils down to how you carry weight - I have a smaller middle, I think, relative to my weight which helps me to take a smaller size, my waist is about 33 inches. And also where you shop - lots of my clothes are white stuff/phase eight/pepperberry - as well as what styles and fabrics.

RoganJosh · 26/03/2015 13:23

Even if you genuinely thought someone might be near plus size territory, you wouldn't say it. Therefore this woman is a cow.

squizita · 26/03/2015 13:26

Springtime you're size 12 yeah? I think there are some crossed wires.

We were sprecifically talking about PP who feel they are size 16+ within our height/weight range (boobs etc aside).

Not doubting your weight/height.

But I still won't use boots scales!

Zucker · 26/03/2015 13:27

I think the person that said that to you was just simply being a bitch to be honest. Who in their right mind says that in response to a person saying they're excited about going shopping for new clothes!

You're far from needing the elephant scales at the zoo OP, enjoy your shopping and keep a side eye on the plus size commenter.

carabos · 26/03/2015 13:27

Since when was 5ft 3in "petite? I'm 5ft4 and reckon I'm average. 5ft is petite in my book.

squizita · 26/03/2015 13:27

Notin Is phase 8 good for a bigger waist/hip/bust ratio then?

FlabbyMummy · 26/03/2015 13:28

In my world Plus size would start at size 20, the average size in this country is 16.

When I was bigger I went to a Plus Size shop thinking things would flatter me, however they didn't, ignore the mean cow. For a confidence boost how about a visit to a department store, personal shopper and try on loads of things that you wouldn't normally try. You don't need to buy anything but in my experience it gives you some ideas.

Latara · 26/03/2015 13:29

Many shops such as Next & Dorothy Perkins do a 'Petite' range for 5'3'' and under. But the sizings are Petite all over so I can't wear those ranges.

notinagreatplace · 26/03/2015 13:31

Squiz - yeah, I like a lot of their stuff and find they are also good for not being too long. Sometimes I find that shops assume you must be reasonably tall if you're a 14

AngelsWithSilverWings · 26/03/2015 13:31

I'm 5ft 4 and probably around 11stone ( never weigh myself) but I wear size 10 or 12 jeans ( 10 if from Next 12 everywhere else!) and size 12 or 14 tops but only because I have 34g boobs. ( size 14 tops usually swamp my shoulders and look a bit big around the waist but 12s tend to be too tight on the bust.

I've never thought of myself as plus size - I have no hips or bum and very skinny legs and arms so I think a lot of my excess weight is my boobs.

OP you don't need plus size clothes!

Latara · 26/03/2015 13:31

I find I fit easily into New Look & Dorothy Perkins etc size 14; OP should easily fit into a 12 which has NEVER been regarded as plus size!

Ginmartini · 26/03/2015 13:31

Some people are talking rubbish!

I'm 5'2, 10st2 and a comfortable size 10. I'm slim looking.

BleachedBarnet · 26/03/2015 13:36

Ginmartini I'm also 5"2 and I'm 8st9 - I'm a size 10 too... some people carry weight differently.

I know from my weight and my mum's weight (we're built similarly and virtually the same height) that if I was 11lbs overweight I would probably be in plus size clothing.

I think in this case she's being a bit rude and presumptive but she might shop at stores where there is less vanity sizing. I find that to be the case with me. If I shopped at DP or New Look etc I'd be a 6/8 but I shop elsewhere and find myself squeezing myself into 10s and needing 12s sometimes!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/03/2015 13:39

Carabos, I'm just under 5ft 3 and there's no way I can get away with regular length trousers. Well not without sizable heels anyway. I need somewhere that sells them in short or petite.

butterfly86 · 26/03/2015 13:40

I'm 5'3 and 10st 4 (still have a bit of baby weight to lose) I'm in a 12, at my lowest I was 9st 2 and was still wearing mostly 12's on the bottom some 10's and 8/10 on the top. It took a lot of effort to maintain that weight and I looked really thin in the face yet some people would still consider that to be "quite overweight". Body shapes differ massively but no way is op plus size nor is a size 12.

LadyGregory · 26/03/2015 13:47

I'm not usually one to accuse anyone of overthinking (as I think under thinking is far more serious a problem in general), but it seems fairly clear from the context that the toddler group woman who made the 'plus size' comment was being bitchy, and I don't think it's worth a flurry of statistics, meditations on vanity sizing and self-recrimination.

grumpasaur · 26/03/2015 13:51

I am 5' 3" and 12.5 stone... I consider myself pretty overweight, and currently I wear a size 16.

Bambambini · 26/03/2015 13:51

5'3 is petite. I'm 5'6 and find most jeans and trousers seem too long for me.

grumpasaur · 26/03/2015 13:51

But can still shop in 'normal' shops!

MiscellaneousAssortment · 29/03/2015 13:31

I agree with Lady, no need for the self recrimination/ justification / obsession in this situation. Woman was being a bitch.

Your weight issue is resolved by avoiding woman like the plague :)
