CRUST RAGE

Ok so in the grand scheme of things – not really a world class problem, but Oh. My. God. I have Crust Rage.

Time and time again, I feed children sandwiches/pizza etc, and they tell me they've ‘finished’ when in reality, all they have done is eat the ‘pointy bit’ and then move on to the next slice.

If a crust is really tough on a pizza or sandwich – fine, leave the actual crust. But more and more I am feeding DC friends who literally take one bite (the ‘point’) of each slice and then announce they’re finished but are ‘still hungry’

Of course you’re fucking hungry you have eaten about 1/8 of what I gave you.

My DC eat all the crusts on everything. Not because they are perfect but because they are greedy like their food. It drives me insane. Especially when their parents consider them to have ‘Eaten everything! Well done you!’ as well.

So AIBU to think that eating the pointy bits is NOT GOOD ENOUGH and to have serious crust rage?

Anyone else?

If someone scissored the crusts of a pizza before giving it to me I'd go Hmm and wonder which bit you expected me to hold it by.

With sanwiches I remember reading about a mum cutting them in half into rectangles not triangles, then turning the top slice of bread round. So each long side has one crust and one cut edge.

Oooh ooh..b*r jam crusts..! What if you laid strips of extra dough over pizza base like a cartwheel, before putting on microscopic amounts of topping
So every piece had a crust all round when you cut it
Mwah ha ha
Take that you crustless straight haired bastards....

I have a 6 yr gap between DCs...
DD1 (who would happily eat crusty baguette sandwiches Hmm) was a sliced bread crust refuser...I used to compromise she had to eat half of them etc. She suddenly got better...I thought she'd grown out of it - for some reason the only time she still didn't like them was peanut butter on toast...
Then one day I caught her sneaking a crust to preschool (peanut butter hating) DD2...
Yep from before DD2 could speak DD1 had been sneakily giving her her crusts ..(and sometimes swapping her crusts for a new piece of toast)....poor DD2 thought this was perfectly normal...

i don't eat crusts either, they taste crap and just extra calories.

EmberElftree · 25/03/2015 08:09

I am a crustaholic - I save my crusts until last as they're the best bit. My mum's elderly friend once reached across and took my last crust from my plate as I watched in slow-mo horror she crammed it into her mouth and declared "must eat your crusts". I could have cried. I was 14.

JemimaPuddlePop · 25/03/2015 08:15

Yabu...some kids just don't like crusts.

Ds2 (4) isn't fussy at all but won't touch crusts on anything...I pick my battles and I'm not picking this one. It works out well for ds1 too, who not only gets his own sandwich/pizza/whatever but also nicks ds2's crusts.

MythicalKings · 25/03/2015 08:25

The day I left home I vowed never to eat crusts again. And I haven't. I'm in my 60s.

YABU. Crust's are the gods' punishment for the nice bits.

SlightlyJaded · 25/03/2015 14:11

Jemima.

Not liking crusts doesn't mean you just bite the pointy bit and move on though. That's the source of the rage (rather than just the finickity eaters not eating actual crusts).

get hens, they love crusts.

lovesmycake · 25/03/2015 14:20

Was no one else told 'if you don't eat your crusts you won't get curly hair'?
I say it to my DS and we both have curly hair......

OK, there seems to be some confusion.

FIG 1. Acceptable crusts
FIG 2. Rage inducing 'crust'

Just eating the pointy bit is annoying, but the very crusty edge of a pizza traditionally isn't meant to be eaten - it's for holding it while you're eating the good bit.

Yournotfeckingserious · 25/03/2015 18:44

Don't like crusts on bread so I can hardly force my dc to eat them but I do like them on pizza. Unfortunately my dogs usually steal them because they are crafty and they manage to cause a distraction which means I have to abandon my plate Grin and that's when they swoop in with one swallow and they are gone.

Vitamints · 25/03/2015 18:55

I once had a pet rat steal an entire pizza Hmm

GingerLDN · 26/03/2015 12:12

I love the crust on everything except plain bread.
