dh has had an annual bonus of 2700

which should be awesome news but I nearly cried when dh told me

as this happened a few years ago as well, and i know that when I do our tax credits renewal they will end up royally screwing me up the ass and taking loads off us. even though dh will prob come out with 2k, max, of his bonus, if he is lucky, but tax credits will take the whole amount off us

so it will hit ME in MY pocket cos dh is doing well at work

bonuses should be just that, a FUCKING BONUS

Household income is household income. Tax credits are based on that. What exactly do you expect?

Of course you can't expect to keep the bonus and tax credits, surely you should be proud of him for earning more and needing less from the state than blaming tax credits. You could always find extra work so that next year you don't need tax credits and the bonus then can be as big as he can earn.

If so YANBU to be annoyed but the benefits system is based on need and I don't think anyone would expect the state to be supporting a family with an income above a certain amount.

Your family doesn't need the tax credits if your family has more money. Bonkers to think you should still get benefits when you get more money

Is he not going to be sharing the bonus with you?.... So he will just spend it like it's a bonus whilst you have to pick up the tax credit pieces?

YOu can't expect the state to support you if the bonus takes your household income above a certain level. Surely you will both benefit from the bonus. If DH won't share this, that is not a matter for the state either.

Surely you would rather be supporting yourselves than relying on tax credits. Well done to your DH.

It is annoying that he's got a bonus and you feel you will be no better off. But tax credits are worked out on the basis of household income and your DH's bonus is part of the household income. So there isn't any get round that. I think the sooner tax credits end the better for everyone.

The bonus will take the place of the tax credits you lose. As a lone parent of two disabled children I am finding it very hard to be sympathetic to your "plight".

Tell your husband he needs to share that amont with u.

oh and the money will be paying off a credit card debt and paying off our holiday

as the tax credits go into my account I am the one who will have less in the bank

although dh says he will pay for more stuff to make up the balance

Im a lone parent too but having livd with a financially abusive tighwad i also know that some times u can have a comfortably off husband and a struggling wife under the same roof.

Tax credits will not reduce by more than the bonus where do people get this idea from??!! Tax credit taper rate 41% ie for every pound you earn they take 41p off!
