You know, I have a horrible feeling that this will be the result of a special snowflake reporting ESD for being robust/sweary on a thread (because they think that MN should be more like NM)

ESD was once warned by MNHQ/threatened with a banning after 'lots of reports'. However MNHQ had made a mistake in her case, they said she had been warned lots of times...it turned out that the 'lots of times' was twice, in two years.

It will be a travesty if MNHQ have used that (over the top) warning to ban her now. There are lots of people on MN that are sweary, robust, sarcastic and pointed (and I'll count myself in that group at times), but MNs "Report, report always report" stance has backfired - people are being reported for the most ridiculous of reasons it seems.

I could be completely wrong (it has been known Wink) but it would save a lot of fuss and hassle if MNHQ would give a complete explanation in this case (a la the AF debacle) rather than just a "Yes she's been banned and TSSDNCOP" which is often the case.

Why not? It would stop all of these types of threads where people are legitimately confused.

Why wouldnt you contact a poster and explain that they have been banned and set out the clear reasons for that. Leaves MN wide open to allegations that it's been done for some unfair reason. Can only be a matter of time before someone presumes it for a protected characteristic and then all sorts of shit hits the fan whilst that is sorted out.

I don't see a problem with name changing because MNHQ know who we are so sock puppetry is easily dealt with. They also have their ways of knowing if we register with 2 different email addresses.

I name change every few months. I also name-change as a one off if I'm asking about something which would make me easily identifiable if someone checked stuff I've said under my usual name. It's that or not ask for much-needed advice from people who would know the answers.

I was almost following this thread until I encountered the "poisoned pensioner routine". What's that about?

Huge disclaimer in that I didn't see the thread, but people often get in trouble for robustly roaring back at really unbearable bullies, who glide away. It's an effect of the 'report report' mantra. And I can quite imagine this situation being a result of Del doing something like that to some unpleasant GF.

And good for her if that's it.

MNHQ do sometimes bar particular user names (not the actual poster) cause the name is excessively offensive. Just containing 'fuck' isn't enough though.

I wonder if the 'big girls' (ffs) are this morning convening a meeting to decide it fuckitbucket is too misogynistic (same lines as cumbucket)

But if that was the problem, why can't they tell the poster that so she could carry on with a new name whilst they sort it out?

Maybe they got a lot of reports about her posts and temporarily suspended her account while they looked into it?

Not everyone appreciates blunt honesty or opinionated posts so she may have put someone's back up. Hopefully she'll get an explanation today.

  1. I also really like ESD and saw her as Fuckitbucket on that 'no mother can ever say kids are anything less than precious angels' thread (why do people hate their kids) and agreed with her posts. She was getting pissed off though - did she go too far, didn't read past yesterday morning?
  1. From a few pages ago: Stranded was NOT respected and liked and deserved to be banned. This was many years ago now (five, six?) but she wrote some absolutely shocking stuff. Two things in particular stick in my mind, about her dc. To the point where I still think about them. She was also a trouble maker.
  1. Namechanging - I do it all the time. Though I don't have more than one going at a time and ditch all the old names. Ironically, I don't think name changing should be allowed really as makes things complicated and can be used for fuckwittery - but then I wouldn't be on MN if I couldn't! But yes as everyone else has said name changing is different from sock puppetry for very obvious reasons.

I've had a good AS of FuckitBucket over the last 7 days and can't see anywhere that she has been deleted/over the top. She had a poster be v rude to her yesterday over something innocuous, but she didn't bite at that.

I suppose it has to be the 'hate your kids' thread, but from what I saw of that before it was deleted FB was being hugely goaded and even her final comeback was amusing rather than hurtful/personal.

Yes eve. Like all sites/social media, MNHQ have to tread a careful line of allowing freedom of speech and keeping the original spirit of the site, while at the same time becoming much more commercial and attracting advertisers. So I guess they don't really want to be explaining to Proctor & Gamble (sp?) why their ads will be running next to posters with names like Youreacunt and Ivegotabighairyvag.
