To only let my children have fresh fruit/yoghurt for breakfast?

They have plenty of healthy food during the day but I don't really want them thinking the day has to start with them shoving lots of hot food or sugary cereals down themselves.

There is plenty of fruit for variety and just a small amount of plain yoghurt.

Aibu? I have always disliked the concept of breakfast so fruit seems a reasonable compromise.

My DC's are always starving when they get up; they need breakfast immediately. They can have weetabix, fruit toast, porridge, boiled eggs, pancakes, fruit, cereal, all sorts of stuff for variety.

I honestly believe children need something filling for breakfast, and tend to let them choose what it is.

I detect ishooooos here. Which is fine as long as you keep them to yourself but it's not cool to make your kids weird as well.

And as for 'disliked the concept of breakfast' - that's got to take the prize for Poncey Pish of the Day. Disliked the concept ffs - it's a meal. When you're hungry. Not a bloody hypothetical theory wrapped up in a great big fluffy old concept. Pish.

OP: it's breakfast. It means (and stop me if I'm telling you something obvious) to break a fast. i.e. to have some food because you have been fasting overnight. i.e. going hours without fuel.

You don't need an extra hour in the morning before eating.

Blimey. If they weren't hungry, they wouldn't eat.

I think you absolutely need to rethink your thoughts about the first meal of the day.

My kids would not get to the garden gate on fruit in yogurt.

Dd1 leaves before I get up. She is thin but eats well. She has toast and a piece of Fruit to eat on the bus.

Dd2 22 months will eat a bloody buffet. Toast, grated cheese, blueberries is prob her usual breakfast. She is tall and slim too.

Your terminology of food make me think you have food hang ups

Not once have your posts been about your dc and what they like for breakfast. Its been about you!... You wont serve eggs because you dont like them?

It's called breakfast for a reason - it breaks the fast. Food is fuel, if you want your body to function efficiently for the day ahead you need to give it some fuel.

Kids need protein, fat and carbs. It's not realistic to expect them to go off to school for the day with just sugary sour milk and some fibrous fructose in their stomachs.

Poor things. I've always woken up starving, I think a bit of fruit would probably make me dizzy/sick tbh, stodge all the way!

Yanbu. I often have fruit only breakfasts. Its very healthy. I know some super fit fruitarians.

But here on mn people will drone on about startchy carbs, despite there being no such thing as an essential carb.

You sound a lot like you might have an eating disorder.

The way you write it sounds like you are disgusted by food. Your DC need food to grow and be healthy.

I honestly think you need to see someone about your food issues op. Please take the advice from this thread before you give your children an unhealthy attitude towards food.

You are bring very unreasonable. Breakfast is probably the most important meal of the day.

Dd & ds mostly have beans on toast or bagels for breakfast. Dd used to have granola & yoghurt but saveS that for the occasional treat now. I have egg on toast. I never used to eat breakfast but found that I snacked & ate less biscuits/cakes when I started having a decent breakfast.

Dh has porridge.

Fruit & yoghurt is ok as an add on to breakfast but not substantial enough.
