I have loads but this is the current, most awful example.

Dp and I currently have sublet our spare room to a friend who needed a place to live. The idea was that she helps with bills and in return doesn't have to pay as much rent as she would if she lived on her own.
Long story short; she is awful. Dirty, lazy and tight. will use our bread, butter etc but hides her stuff in case we use it. Didn't contribute to bills until I started asking for forty quid a month (for her share of Internet, gas and lekky) on top of her rent. Didn't pay a penny for Internet for ten months after she moved in despite using my old laptop which she then broke Hmm.

She also left her dirty knickers in the bathroom with a dirty fanny pad in them. Swanned in and out several times without picking them up. I went in with a plastic bag over my hand and dumped them.

dP is soon up for a pay rise so we are biding our time til we tell her to fuck off.

Not technically a house share but when I first got together with Ex P he lived with 2 of his friends, they all used to get stoned and then make cups of tea that would be forgotten about so I'd find over a dozen mouldy cups of tea. I also helped (read- did for them) to clean their oven which was absolutely thick with grease and fossilised oven chips and was constantly finding mouldy old plates behind the sofa. I once descaled their kettle for them using some vinegar and it fell apart! Obviously the limescale was the only thing holding it together.

Yuck. I had a roommate who came home at 3am with a bunch of her friends and some guys they met who were rough. Within twenty minutes of them coming home the coke was out and I opened my door to my roommate licking whipped cream off her friends nipples while another two girls were giving my roommate and her friend she was licking pleasure of the oral sort. The guys were all wanking off to this. I was horrified. Threw my coat on over my pjs and ran to my friends house. Moved out 3 days later and was Confused when said roommate had an issue with a potential replacement being a lesbian.

Bear in mind this was in America and I was on a greencard. If the police had come knocking I would have been deported. I learned the very top and the very bottom in America are rotten. The middle is great. Roommate was from a 'good' family. The week before she had done three guys in a row. DH came around and sat down waiting for me to finish my hair. She came out and asked if he wanted a turn. DH was horrified and carried my bed himself because he wasn't going to let me stay one more night. DH later told me he was concerned that I might end up raped.

House-sharing is the quickest way to cool-off or even destroy friendships. Living with someone who you are (or have been) in love with and are committed to is hard enough!

chanie44 · 22/03/2015 14:54

Friends roommate moved her brother in without checking with other roommates first.

The brother would borrow friends iPad (without asking) and would use it to look up porn.

Ugh. When me and dp were house sharing in college with another couple. the woman was foul hygiene wise. didn't wash for up to 2 weeks at a time and stank, left moldy dishes everywhere and blood covered tampons in the toilet without flushing. clothes everywhere. the man was worse with walking around bollock naked all the time, tried it on with me 3 times when our dps were at work and was filthy like his partner. yuck. i kid you not there was shit (yes, actual shit) in the seal of our washing machine too. ewies. always smoked weed in the house (non smoking contract) and nearly got us chucked out then eventually left 3 months of arrears on dp and i's door. just no. never again

cleanmyhouse · 22/03/2015 15:00

She took a bite out of my cheese. Left toothmarks and everything. That was the final straw.

Iloveonionchutney · 22/03/2015 15:00

2 housemates moved in their partners and still expected me to pay a third of bills including the increase caused by another 2 adults who weren't paying a penny! Needless to say it didn't last, they must have thought I had mug tattooed on my forehead.

Lesson learnt: Don't ever invite rugby boys to a party

gymboywalton · 22/03/2015 15:07

i lived in a houseshare with 8 people once. it was a nightmare. just awful. fell out with one of them and then everytime i went home she threw pans at me. had to go and stay with my boyfriend[now dh] until i found somewhere new to live.
horrendous.

Thatwanoverthere · 22/03/2015 15:12

gym I also had To move because of a house share that went wrong. Thankfully didn't end in violence. She did try and saddle me with a 300 quid bill that she was supposed to pay. She had taken people's bill money and spent it because she hadn't changed the bill out of my name.

Gross gross gross! Gah.
I have many tales..... I became the proud owner of a teeny one bed flat at the tender age of 24 as a result though so worked out ok in the end.

Move in to one flat share and did a shop. No room in fridge so decided to give it a clear out. Omg the stuff in there. Years out of date fresh food so mouldy it was now unrecognisable. The other flat mates were all twenty something professionals one was a doctor and the flat was minging. Did not stay long.

Shared with guys who clearly used my precious Clinique facial soap to wash their personal areas. Every day my soap was covered in pubic hairs.

One of them was so hairy that he used to cover the entire bath and shower walls with pubes. So pubey. Not nice.

Then female flat mates who used to borrow clothes etc without ever asking. We were not even love friends but she used to help herself to whatever she fancied of mine. Including cutting the tags off brand new items and taking my clothes on holiday with her.

Plues the usual types who happily eat everyone's stuff but never ever contribute. So glad when I got my own place!

coffeewithchips · 22/03/2015 15:16

Lived with a horrible girl at uni. She was very aggressive and thought her opinion was the only one that mattered. She moved in a month before the rest of us and tried to charge us money for the electricity and gas she'd used before we were there. She used to get up at 5.30am for her work placement and set the heating to come on at 5 and go off at 6. I changed it once so it was on when the rest of us got up and she screamed in my face for touching it, total control freak.

She also hid the kitchen roll as it was 'hers' and started a huge fight because my other housemate used it, ran my supermarket pizza under the tap to ruin it because I stood up to her then ran up loads of Internet download charges on the account under my name when I moved out. She then had the nerve to report me to the estate agent when I moved out.
shudder awful girl.

blondiebonce · 22/03/2015 15:18

At uni as a student nurse doing placements- 4 housemates ended up being about 8, all smoking with a no smoking contract. Often weed. My room didn't have a door and my uniform ended up stinking of weed.
Kitchen was disgusting, constant raves, room was regularly used when I was out for visitors of visitors. Electric was on a meter and only 4 of us actually remembered to put anymore on.

I ended up quitting uni and coming home to deep wash everything I owned.

Username111 · 22/03/2015 15:35

I could only stand house sharing for a few months but the worse things were piles of dirty dishes and loads of pubes in the bath! We weren't allowed pets but one man kept a rabbit in his room. He let it roam about so his floor was full of straw and rabbit droppings. This was his own bedroom but still disgusting. He denied having the rabbit and fair to say he didn't get his deposit back Grin
A couple were from Poland and refused to speak English (which they knew) this made people uncomfortable.
Taking food without asking.
Generally making a lot of noise at crazy o clock in the morning.
People ignoring each other.
The list is endless!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 22/03/2015 15:41

Compared to some of these, mine don't seem so bad, but at the time it was dreadful. Shared with four guys, none of whom would do any cleaning, including dishes. Ended up buying my own pots and crockery as I was so fed up washing a sinkful of dishes before I could cook or eat. I was the only one who ever cleaned the kitchen or bathroom. Oh, and they were in a brass band, and would come home from the pub and 'practise'. I've never been so glad to get to the end of a lease.

NancyRaygun · 22/03/2015 15:41

I was lying in the bath (having cleaned it first) at one place I shared in a young "just out of uni" flatshare - and it absolutely stank of piss near my face. I couldn't work it out as it was just one area of the bath, no where near the loo, I then realised my head was near where my male housemates pee landed as they weed in the shower. The smell was so strong it had permeated the grouting.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 22/03/2015 15:41

Bottles and jam jars of piss.... stored in a wardrobe. Seems he didn't like using the bathroom at night. Hmm

itsmeitscathy · 22/03/2015 15:50

Mine seem tame - my flat mate trimmed his facial hair over my toothbrush once. That was a really nice flat though :)

At Uni the Boys next door full on ramming an ironing board through our letterbox after a night out. Terrifying. Flat mate invited her ex over for a fight and was abusive to me to the point I moved out. She did the same thing with the same outcome to another flat mate a year later.

turkeyboots · 22/03/2015 15:58

I lived with 4 guys in final year of university and they were vile. I used to bring bleach to the loo with me as I'd never know what I'd find. I kept my crockery locked in my room as otherwise it was buried under pile of mouldering dishes in sink or lost under someone's bed. They never ever emptied the bin either so kitchen stank. But their mothers came once a month or so and deep cleaned the place, so could have been worse.

Worst was the house share I moved out of after been attacked by two girls. They then put all the bills in my name and I had a nightmare when I was sent 4months worth of bills for gas etc. Never shared ever ever again.

CatthiefKeith · 22/03/2015 16:11

Shared with a girl who never washed. She had long black hair and went through a lot of Batiste.

When she moved out I found drink bottles filled with piss, glasses and cups full of mould, takeaway wrappers with rotting food under the bed, dirty knickers stuffed behind radiators, biscuits in the bed, all sorts.

When I stripped her bed I found five bottom sheets on it, all with hair, crumbs, crisp packets etc between the layers. Like a disgusting version of pass the parcel. I can only assume she couldn't be arsed to change the bed so kept putting another sheet on.Shock

TheArchchancellorsHat · 22/03/2015 16:15

I got off lightly compared to some of these Shock

My worst was probably the French guy who smoked weed all day and (I suspect, not proved though) burgled us when the rest of us (students) went home for Christmas.

Same flat had a girl who liked to have the heating on full blast, 24/7, regardless of the time of year or whether she was in or out. She would walk round in a t-shirt, it was like walking into an oven when you came in from outside. I hate heating full stop so it really rankled, especially when we were splitting the bills equally. But that never escalated beyond passive-agressive note-leaving Grin

MrsTedCrilly · 22/03/2015 16:19

We sublet to a friend of mine who I was very close to.. I knew his hygiene wasn't great and he smoked weed but I was young and didn't care too much. One day after a few months I noticed loads of flies around his door so I opened it to investigate.. The room was the type you step down into.. The floor was just a sea of rubbish a foot deep and 10 square metres, he had thrown nothing in the bin at all! He also only ate joints of meat and kept the meat fat in containers around the room. I wondered where all the drinking glasses went! His bed was covered in rubbish with only a tiny square empty that ge curled up like a foetus on, rather than moving the mess. He said it was because his mum had done everything for him Confused reminds self to not pick up after son
It was sad chucking him out as I loved him as a friend, and I haven't seen him since.. Definitely ruined it for us Sad
