I have an mpv with 7 seats but dh has a small car that's got a very high mileage. He no longer needs to do long distances and we are assuming we will need to replace his car fairly soon. We don't necessarily need a 7 seater but as he does now do some school runs we would rather all 3 dc were in the back (currently dd1 is 7 and is on a booster in his front seat).

Can anyone inspire me away from mpvs - preferably low tax?

Peugeot 406! Apparently, Swedish or French cars are good to consider.

DustyCropHopper · 20/03/2015 20:44

Our ford mondo fitted 2 high back boosters and a seat with 5 point harness seat (and a rear facing one before that).

Whyisitsodifficult · 20/03/2015 20:44

Vauxhall Sharan, not very sleek but does the job!

dynevoran · 20/03/2015 20:44

I have a Renault scenic. Not small but not big either. I fit three across the back.

Queenofknickers · 20/03/2015 20:46

I used to drive a landrover freelancer back in the days I needed to do this.

m0therofdragons · 20/03/2015 20:49

Hmmm my dad's new mondeo doesn't fit 2 maxi cosi 5 points plus the maxi cosi rodi air protect. Must differ between models.

We have a Kia Ceed SW and fit 3 ERF seats across the back but sounds like you are asking about forward facing (which I would have thought would be easier for some reason).
Two Britax Two Ways with a Max Way in the middle in case anyone else is interested.

MrsBeeZed · 20/03/2015 20:55

A Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. Fits three car seats easily and has tons of space.

zoemaguire · 20/03/2015 20:56

Honda frv. It's a good car (that's as enthusiastic as I'm prepared to get over cars!).

lavendersun · 20/03/2015 20:58

XC90 fits three seats but is a bugger to park!

Scrounger · 20/03/2015 21:00

Lavenderson it's definitely not low tax. I loved mine.

AndiRee · 20/03/2015 21:00

I have an 03 plate citroen picasso and 3 children. All fit nicely without touching - a must with my three!

MabelBee · 20/03/2015 21:00

Citroen C4 Picasso - 3 isofix maxi cosis in the back. It's been a solid car. No problems in the 4 years we've had it.

lavendersun · 20/03/2015 21:02

Scrounger ours wasn't Grin, but it was 7 years ago, but I wonder what they do now as our V50 is nil tax and our C30 only £30 a year.

SophieandHerSnail · 20/03/2015 21:03

I need to know the answer!
Need to buy a new car to fit 2 in booster seats & one in a baby seat. I get very confused about what would work & what wouldn't... I can tell you a Nissan Almera won't work...

m0therofdragons · 20/03/2015 21:04

I love xc90s but sadly out of budget.

Volvo V70 estate with built in boosters works for us. All three also fitted across the back of our old ford focus estate which was an 07 plate.

livingthegoodlife · 20/03/2015 21:07

We have golf estate, 2 forward facing 0-4 year seats and 1 maxi cosi cabriofix (in the middle)

SandyArse · 20/03/2015 21:09

Avoid Saab 93 estate, we have baby seat, booster seat and can't fit a (small) adult with them in the back together.

Also tried baby seat and 2 booster seats, too narrow.

Thinking of strapping noisiest one to the roof

SmileAndNod · 20/03/2015 21:11

Vw sharan. Have three seats across the back (two isofix, one a high back booster).

PepperPotts · 20/03/2015 21:13

We had a Cirtreon c5 estate which fitted 2 high back boosters and a 5 point seat in a row.

Ihateparties · 20/03/2015 21:15

With the caveat we have looked High and low to end up with a collection of the slimmest seats available in each age bracket we have had 3 abreast in:

2007 focus, 2006 Audi a6, 2009 Mazda 6, 2011 seat Ibiza, 2012 corsa, 2013 focus and 2014 hyundai i10.

Dc are 7, 5 and 3 currently so using x2 hbb and X1 rf group 1 for long/high speed journeys and no back booster, hbb and ff group 1 for town use. Despite there being bigger cars on the list focus always easiest fit.

I'm going to go ahead and admit the i10 is cosy. For the seats not to touch (which, as I understand from the most reliable advice I could find from a erf independant retailer, is not a requirement for safety) you will need 3 individual seats so c4 Picasso, scenic, Peugeot 5008 etc.

If going for a generically bigger car I would go for 7 seats definitely, 3 in such close proximity can be um.. Fraught.

Ihateparties · 20/03/2015 21:17

There's a big range in dimensions so between different models of hbb, group 1 seats etc. Up to 10cm occasionally more so you will hear x car doesn't fit 3 across but it really does depend which seats you use and it what combination.

babyiwantabump · 20/03/2015 21:20

Citroen c4 Picasso - has a britax Max fix in the middle and two booster seats either side. Massive boot too loads of room . I love it!

MiloCat · 20/03/2015 21:23

S max.
