I have an mpv with 7 seats but dh has a small car that's got a very high mileage. He no longer needs to do long distances and we are assuming we will need to replace his car fairly soon. We don't necessarily need a 7 seater but as he does now do some school runs we would rather all 3 dc were in the back (currently dd1 is 7 and is on a booster in his front seat).

Can anyone inspire me away from mpvs - preferably low tax?

citroen xsara picasso

GrasshopperNchipmunk · 21/03/2015 07:15

Toyota rav4 - fits baby seat, 5 point harness seat and booster with a back along the back seats ok.

hazeyjane · 21/03/2015 07:15

should add...
it has a very large sn carseat (britax traveller) 1 high back booster and a booster seat.

KeturahLee · 21/03/2015 07:15

We have a xsara picasso too - three full sized seats so we can fit a Britax baby seat and a Hauck Varioguard both refacing on the isofix and a Kiddy HBB in the middle.

FunMitFlags · 21/03/2015 07:23

Can be done in a Volvo v70 depending on the seats (with one child on the the built in booster seat).

Purplehonesty · 21/03/2015 07:31

We have a 2010 mondeo and the back seats are curved at the sides so you definitely can't fit more than 2 car seats in the newer models.

We also have a focus 2007 model and you can get three seats across in it but boosters are fiddly due to access to seatbelt point. You could get seatbelt extenders to make that easier though

Another Honda FRV fan. It is a great car to drive and I feel "safe" in it.

adsy · 21/03/2015 07:58

Toyota corolla verso.
Fits 3 seats comfortably across the back, has a huge boot, and also has an extra 2 pop up seats in the back should you ever need a 7 rather than 5 seater. this then limits boot space but you can just put up the one extra seat and keep lots of space.
Also much smaller than your MPV type.

Angiefernackerpan · 21/03/2015 08:09

Mazda 6. We've got a booster, a high-back booster and and Isofix group 1 seat in it. Massive boot as well.

S max is is great, so much so we are buying another one this week. We have two teens and a toddler in ours easy. We like the fact that the floor is flat in the back.

MelanieWiggles · 21/03/2015 08:37

Grasshopper how have you managed to get 3 seats in a RAV4 ? I have a 2007 model and there is no way I could squeeze them in. How have you gotten around the middle seatbelt problem ?

McMW · 21/03/2015 08:46

v40 or v60

BunnyFint · 21/03/2015 08:47

It's a 2006 Mondeo. We have a Britax Discovery LX high back booster behind the drivers seat. A Britax Eclipse in the middle and a Britax First Class Plus behind the passenger seat.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 21/03/2015 08:52

This shows that it is very variable depending on your particular set of car seats.

We have got a peugeot 5008. We rarely use the pop up seats in the boot but they are handy to have when friends come to tea or when we're taking extras to Cubs, rugby etc. when the're not in use, the boot space is tremendous.

Amber76 · 21/03/2015 09:03

Ford mondeo - 4 year old in booster (no back) - she has to be in middle or it's too tight. 1 year old in car seat. Newborn in carrier.

Themoleandcrew · 21/03/2015 09:15

We've got a scenic with two hbb and a rear facing 0+/1 seat. It will still fit all three once littlest is front facing. We couldn't get the seats in my corsa (which had to go) nor an Astra. Which means if all three kids are going we have to take the scenic. The problem in the Astra was the length of the seat belts though. Width wise they all went in.

frolickingpanda · 21/03/2015 09:16

Peugeot 5008. It has 3 full-size seats at the back + 2 pop-up ones in the boot if need be. Cheaper than the VWs.

collywobble · 21/03/2015 10:00

Toyota Corolla Verso here too. Three large seats in the back with two that have integrated booster seats that you can pop up and down easily when needed.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 21/03/2015 10:22

I have a 14 focus estate. No idea how people are getting three in there, i have two and the gap is tiny.

Love the car though, so if they can fit i 100% recommend it! :)

KnappShappeyShipwright · 21/03/2015 19:03

Citroen Berlingo here, fantastic car as long as you aren't bothered about looks! Ours is10 years old and has been great. It held two car seats and a high backed booster very comfortably, plus the sliding doors make access essay in car parks. The DCs are all out of car seats & boosters now and they still fit in ok but find it a bit cosy for long journeys so we're looking at getting a 7 seater for the teenage years. I'd recommend you look at something with three individual seats across the back if you intend to keep it beyond the car seat stage.

EveBoswell · 21/03/2015 19:47

Someone's probably already suggested this but I put forward a Volkswagen Golf.

darkness · 21/03/2015 21:32

We have a 4 wheel drive diesel as our "other" car to the MPV, its higher spec, safe and drives better in winter on those days I just don't want to take the MPV out..it makes a good combination
