To wonder which supermarket does the nicest/best long life shopping bags?

This is quite sad I know, but as I am in Scotland, we must pay for every bag, so I am planning to stock up...so why not go for some nice long-lasting ones?! Where do you think does the best, prettiest and toughest ones?

I like the cute hessian/woven ones from Tesco (though i shop at morrisons and aldi). My favourite has some bees on it. The ones from Aldi are actually pretty decent too and much bigger than ones from other shops. I normally just have some canvas bags (generally ones i got free from somewhere) in my handbag for if i need something when i'm out and about.

Why not buy a couple of sturdy ones from a bag/shoe shop?

My Dad has a couple he's kept for about 10yrs. Didn't cost him much either.

I like the Tesco Orla Kiely ones. They're very strong, but I appreciate OK isn't everyone's cup of tea!

We use some bags made of thick recycled plastic. The first were picked up in French and Italian supermarkets on holiday, but they are starting to appear over here now, so I have a couple from Sainsbo's (orange with an elephant design) and one from Waitrose, though I've only seen them in there once. They are great, right size for the trolley, hold loads, fold up small and weigh very little - and they last for ever.

Tesco Orla Kiely bags are £4 I think. Morrisons not so pretty but 35p :) Mine are at least 5 years old.

I like the tesco Orla Kiely ones too.

They are very strong and a good size. They hold their shape too so they are easy to pack.

Not a supermarket but if you have a HobbyCraft nearby they have lovely (thick, deep and wide) hessian/jute ones with decent handless. About £2-3.

I'd like one that folds up small in a handbag but is strong. Don't mind what it looks like but it must have handles that make it easy to hold - not the latest M&S ones that are too short to go over shoulder and too long too hold. I had some lovely black ones from M&S that bit the dust after about 7 years...

Ha I have accepted the 5p charge & try to remember my own.
It does however really gall me the flimsy tissue paper thin bags the co-op have the cheek to charge 5p for compared to the far better quality ones say in the likes of Sainsburys.
If I've forgotten & need to pay I at least want a decent bag that will make it to the car/ house without shedding it's load Grin

asda 6p ones - they will replace them if they break. or keep going to a butcher - they will give you the bags free as they are not allowed to charge for them in Scotland. its because they sell cooked meat and fresh meat...

Ikea doa nylon bags with a built in pouch bit to fold into which are very nice. Here. I like the fact that the straps go over the shoulder.

I had a woven recycled plastic bag from Wholefoods (USA). I loved this bag as it held huge amounts and had long shoulder straps. BUT my OH also liked this one and tries to hide it in his car!!

I keep looking for a similar style bag, but as yet I am unsuccessful.

I second the Ikea one! Lifelorn, it's very similar to the one from Wholefoods that I stole from my sister gave me! Built ipocket to fold it into, handles long enough to wear over the shoulder, and a good capacity.

Plastic - sainsburys are good. Fold up - john lewis or m and s :)

Aldi do fantastic large canvas type bags in lovely colours (we have the bright turquoise ones) they hold an awful lot and are very sturdy. I think they were about 80p each, you can easily fit a trolley load into 5 or 6 of them.
