Larry do you look for offence every time someone pays you a compliment?

It is not and insult to look well

LarrytheCucumber · 21/03/2015 11:13

Why do you assume that I take offence Bunbaker?

Bunbaker · 21/03/2015 11:21

Because being told you look well is a compliment not an insult, unless you have some friends who like to make passive aggressive "compliments".

LarrytheCucumber · 21/03/2015 11:26

I don't think being told you've put on weight is an insult.

DoJo · 21/03/2015 11:59

If someone's rude enough to point out that you've put on weight, why would they dress it up as a compliment? Surely someone who thinks it's appropriate to comment on your weight gain will probably have the sensitivity of a brick and just come right out with it!

Phephenson · 21/03/2015 13:10

I always think the same thing, but you probably abu.

I also think when people say 'wow, you've lost weight' when I haven't must just remember me a lot fatter in their heads.

Bunbaker · 21/03/2015 13:29

This thread is rather depressing

You can't tell someone they look well because they think you think they have put weight on

You can't tell them they have lost weight because the implication is that they were fat

You can't tell them they look nice because they will think that you think they don't look good at other times

Why can't someone just accept a compliment with a smile and say thank you instead of looking for offence?

toffeeboffin · 21/03/2015 17:08

I usually think the opposite, as in lost weight. Maybe it's me BU... Hmm

notinagreatplace · 21/03/2015 18:16

I've recently lost a couple of stone and people keep saying it to me so I assumed it meant that they'd noticed that but felt it was too personal to comment on.
