to think it is infuriating that I will be written off as po-faced when I want to protest about the objectification and sexualisation of women??

see here

This makes me feel sad and angry in equal measure.

But I know lots of people will say I am old-fashioned, jealous, bitter, anti-women for expressing this. I feel most definitely that if I want to object to this sort of marketing, I will have negative comments made about me and my looks and personality flung at me as a way to shut me up!

Makes me mad, it does.

i saw that and thought they must have been frozen was so cold yesterday.

ghostyslovesheep · 15/03/2015 11:42

yes I want to wrap them in a duvet and feed them cake x

YANBU I hate the response you get for objecting to this crap

jackydanny · 15/03/2015 11:43

I hear you! You are most definately not BU.

I don't bother reading this tripe.
It's as bad as the Sun.

Mintyy · 15/03/2015 11:44

How can it still happen?

Heidi Klum - what were you thinking? I used to think she was rather intelligent.

OP posts:
Dawndonnaagain · 15/03/2015 11:46

I don't think you're being po faced at all.
The fact that you can see their ribs is also sad.

meditrina · 15/03/2015 11:47

They look terribly uncomfy. Not just the models (who at least are getting paid to be outdoors in only underwear and stilettos in March), but the actual pants - they have ridden up the arse crack of all three.

So bad product, worse campaign.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/03/2015 11:49

I'm not sure i understand the issue.

They are fashion models who are actually modelling under garments for a legitimate reason.

Eternity48 · 15/03/2015 11:50

What a ridiculous way of advertising, people really have no shame nowadays.

meandjulio · 15/03/2015 11:51

I had quite an unexpected monarchist reaction - how DARE they do this crap in front of Buckingham Palace? Wistful imagining of Prince Philip aiming an air gun at the photographer from the balcony.

Actually this is so ludicrous it actually manages to make misogynist marketing look like exactly what it is. I think you might find very little disagreement if you object on feminist grounds. I haven't read the comments - other threads sometimes say that the Mail commenters are pretty aware of sexist rubbish as they get plenty of practice seeing it

Mintyy · 15/03/2015 11:57

"I'm not sure i understand the issue."

So depressing!

Mintyy · 15/03/2015 11:58

Ha haa! I had the tiniest hint of a similar reaction meandjulio.

UptheChimney · 15/03/2015 12:02

I won't call you po-faced. I'll call you a sensible feminist and YANBU. At all.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 15/03/2015 12:02

Tacky and vulgar exercise, Heidi Klum those poor girls must have been freezing.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/03/2015 12:02

Why is it so depressing Mintyy?

I don't see much of a distinction between a fashion model advertising a under garment range or a ski suit.

They are promoting and advertising a fashion item, its fashion modelling not glamour modelling

Homeriliad · 15/03/2015 12:03

I agree with needsasockamnesty: Professional models modelling clothing isn't a problem unless you think underwear should never be seen or advertised.

I'm also confused by the thread title '...sexualisation of women'. Humans, men and women, are sexual beings with sexual desires and eliciting sexual desires in others.

Mintyy · 15/03/2015 12:06

It is an exercise in titillation Sock!

They aren't wearing practical cotton underwear for a start, and why aren't they modelling indoors at a show in the normal manner?

If we've got beyond models being draped over cars and boats at the trade shows, why do we still have to put up with this terrible throw-back advertising?

OP posts:
ArabellaStrange · 15/03/2015 12:08

I hate advertising and marketing anyway but this sounds like a fine example of how ridiculous it can get.
If we are all sexual beings, who enjoy sex (which I do, immensely) no one will mind if I start getting it on in public? And inflicting my rampant sexuality on unsuspecting passerbys?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 15/03/2015 12:09

I hear you.

But give it a few minutes and someone will call you jealous.

poor one in the yellow pants. They're practically internal :(

meglet · 15/03/2015 12:09

they look cold and awkward.

and I speak as someone who has a shameful love of the vs 'fashion' show

soontobemumofthree · 15/03/2015 12:11

Where /from whom will you get these personal attacks? Could you write a letter if you feel strongly? Always makes me feel better, sometime I get a reply!

julesnotjoules · 15/03/2015 12:11

and people get hassled for bf in public Sad Angry yanbu. its mindless.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 15/03/2015 12:12

Well if you can't see the context is not really appropriate for modelling underwear I think you might be a bit stupid/ignorant/over compensating for something.

OddBodkins · 15/03/2015 12:13

Yes, either that or you're jealous! I totally understand. I bet they felt really cold and embarrassed!

trashcanjunkie · 15/03/2015 12:13

The poses they're using are distinctly porn inspired, you can barely see the product they're supposed to be advertising, and it's out of context. It's not the norm to wear undies outside the palace needsasock

I'm depressed it's having to be explained.

As an aside, the 'hungry bum' look is all the rage these days. I have seen women going out for a night with the shorts equivalent of these, and there is just as much bottom hanging out. Actually I've seen girls out shopping on the high street in them. I am unsure how I feel about that generally, as on the one hand, I support anybody's right to wear what they like, on the other hand, I don't want to see it wandering about doing my shopping Confused

And the girls look cold, which won't kill them, but aesthetically isn't great - clammy skin and goosebumps, plus the lighting is grey and dull. I just don't get it..... It's not as if men buy the majority of women's undies anyway.... it's aimed at the wrong people imo

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 15/03/2015 12:17

Maybe they're not doing porn poses? Maybe they're just huddling together for warmth? Like penguins on ice flows Wink
