The 1985 mini series of course.

OP posts:

Good plan. I think I'll watch it tomorrow too OP!

I first saw it when I was 7 or so and have loved it ever since. I used to get so excited because Channel 4 usually had it on their Christmas schedules.

Now I have it on DVD but try and only watch it once a year so it's always fresh.

Does anyone else wish they'd included Anne of the Island in the TV series? I'd have loved to have seen her at Redmond.

squoosh · 15/03/2015 03:09

AnneEyht I dream of going to PEI. I think I'd expect everyone to be in late Victorian dress though.

Was jealous of Kate Middleton when she got to visit Green Gables.

CheerfulYank · 15/03/2015 03:12

Oh I love AOGG!

blacktreaclecat · 15/03/2015 03:55

The best way ever to spend Mother's Day. There is no situation that an aogg quote can't solve.

Sigh. I have a DS. Doubt he would ever be interested. But I LOVED that series.

Top plan...

Moleyjay · 15/03/2015 07:26

Has anyone ever read Emily of New Moon (part of a trilogy) by the same author as Anne of Green Gables. I loved Emily more than Anne!!

I love the books and the TV series.
Some of the sequels were good too, but not the last one, which went in a strange direction.
The death of Matthew is a complete tear jerker. So beautifully done.
Am now planning trip to PEI, oh in about 10 years time!

MincePieDiet · 15/03/2015 09:15

I loved that mini series as well as the books. Cried buckets of tears! I watched it over and over as a young teenager. Have it on video somewhere which is no use to anyone. Thanks OP am now looking into DVD. You most definitely should spend all afternoon watching it.

roomforimprovement · 15/03/2015 12:45

Yesmoley..I haven't read to Emily books, but DD loves them. She also read the ' Pat' books and Jane of Lantern, but told me that Emily was her favourite out of the the LM Montgomery characters.

YADNBU. Sounds like heaven! Unfortunately my two boys would never sit and watch it. Sad
Absolutely loved that mini series, and watched it again recently for the first time in years.
The Matthew bit still makes me cry Sad

AnneEyhtMeyer · 15/03/2015 14:01

I wish I could get DH & DD out of the house today so I could watch it.

CheerfulYank · 15/03/2015 17:24

I love Emily too. She's fantastic.

CheerfulYank · 15/03/2015 17:25

I used to wish I could deploy "the Murray look" at will. :o

AnneEyhtMeyer · 15/03/2015 17:29

I can't stop looking at the PEI brochures. I think it would be a mistake to go with DH though as he just doesn't get it. I either wait for DD to grow up a bit and get into AOGG or go by myself. One day I will get there.

squoosh · 15/03/2015 17:33

I've tried my best to erase the sequel from my brain. It's WWI and Gilbert's been captured as a prisoner of war. Anne races to Europe and dresses up as a nun in order to rescue him. Has some flirtation with a writer and adopts a baby.

I thought I was hallucinating. I've refused full stop to watch that Return To Green Gables film that was made a few years ago.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 15/03/2015 17:40

The WW1 sequel was atrocious. I watched it once when I got the DVDs, but never again.

Haven't seen the Return to Green Gables film. Is it the same cast?

squoosh · 15/03/2015 17:56

No it has a different cast. I've just read the blurb and it sounds even worse than the WWI ridiculousness. Didn't think that was possible.

Gilbert is dead (!) and Anne is a playwright. She discovers that her father Walter didn't actually die and that she has a half brother. Hmm Hmm

Ugh Lucy Maud would be spinning in her grave. He may as well have pissed on her grave to be honest.

Lardylassnomore · 15/03/2015 18:05

I love the TV series.
