To think that gravy on chips is illogical.. and working class...

My heart sinks when I have a meal with fries and (it IS always) a working class server decides without asking that any liquid on the plate is there solely to turn something that is clearly cooked for crispyness into mush. Its the same with beans or anything.

Its double illogical (which I think is a class thing) because NOT doing that means you can have soggy and shit or crispy and lovely, whereas once a fry even remotely touches mush, its fucked.

I know about Iceland, but are all working class meals flavourless gullet swilling mush? Is that where it comes from?

Gravy on chips is wrong

vindscreenviper · 14/03/2015 15:07

A wanky basket ouryve?
So the sauce is already in there before they add the chips Grin

CupidStuntSurvivor · 14/03/2015 15:08

Creamed cabbage sounds grim. Does it come with gravy?

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2015 15:09

A ladies Parmo Grin

Amazing. I bet I wouldn't have any difficulty cramming a man size one down my neck

A working class server, is a server who is working class. You can be middle class and working temporarily as a server, on a gap year or whilst studying for example.

I am certain that some foods are more traditionally or statistically working class.

My current example is Ikea, where I was told there was a Mothering Sunday celebration in their Restaurant. Its not really up to par.

I've never eaten a Doner kebab though. I just can't. No matter how drunk.

westcoastnortherneragain · 14/03/2015 15:10

Actually if you added cheese curds too then you have poutine, one of Canada's national dishes (it's surprisingly delicious)

The op clearly has no class, gravy on fries/chips is fabulous!

PilchardPrincess · 14/03/2015 15:10

I want to try a parmo now.

what sort of sauce is it?

squoosh · 14/03/2015 15:11

Agree catgirl doner meat looks rank when I'm sober and when I'm seven sheets to the wind.

A friend of mine loves doner meat and pickled eggs. Envy. I suspect she may be working class though, I'll have to check her lineage.

Working class sauce Pilchard

It's a blend of the tears of out of work miners, Special Brew and a jus of broken dreams

FuckItBucket · 14/03/2015 15:12

Kebab, no salad and loads of chilli sauce is delish

Irelephant · 14/03/2015 15:13

catgirl parmos are amazing. Since iv been pregnant I have been known to have mine with gravy.

I am both very northern and very working class.

The OP sounds like a knob.

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2015 15:13

Oh no. Wikipedia says it's just Bechemel.

Edinburgh has this horrid thin brown stuff fir chips.

Curry sauce is also horrid. I have tomato ketchup which my Glaswegian partner thinks is sacrilege - he has salt and vinegar (purist)

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2015 15:13

I might try and make a Parmo tonight.

Kasterborous · 14/03/2015 15:14

Chips with gravy on is my very favourite thing, really want some now!

noddyholder · 14/03/2015 15:14

Your class obsession exposes you tbh You sound ridiculous and a bit like someone with a chip on their shoulder (excuse the pun)

PilchardPrincess · 14/03/2015 15:14

the parmo is for parmesan, guessing it's a derivation of some kind of italian dish, they like a breaded escalope don't they....

So breaded deep fried chicken with a sort of cheesy sauce all over it and chips mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Idontseeanydragons · 14/03/2015 15:14

If you choose fried and gravy you deserve everything you get - which will be soggy, limp bits of potato. Chips and gravy on the other hand is far superior and best eaten in a muffin/bap/whatever with extra gravy poured over the top.
For maximum chip goodness it has to be chips, mayo and cheese though Wink

CupidStuntSurvivor · 14/03/2015 15:15

Ok OP, so you're actually saying foods from certain places, such as Ikea, are working class?

ouryve · 14/03/2015 15:16

I'm having curry for tea. Shan't be bothering with rice, now. I'm going to put some nice fat chips on. Flavoured with garlic (easy to do in the actifry.)

Thisissomething · 14/03/2015 15:16

Best thing ever! Then you put a slice of bread on the plate to soak up the rest of the gravy! Lush!

finnbarrcar · 14/03/2015 15:17
