i don't think so but you may disagree. this evening i had some foreign sounding guy call up about my 'recent car accident', he wanted details to confirm he had the right person, and advised that i'd be in line for compensation, realising it was a scam, i did not give him any details but let him run with it, and asked how much it would be etc, he was rattling around looking for answers and trying to ask me things about my bank account etc, after about 10 minutes i got bored and said 'oh, by the way, i haven't driven for the past year, and this call has been recorded for the police..' strange how quick he put the phone down. since i started winding them it's surprising how the number of calls have dropped, tps does not seem to work for calls outside the u.k.

I love it when 'Microsoft' call me - I let them go on and on about our tech support and how much it will cost me etc. then I say, 'That's funny, coz we only have Apple computers in this house!' They soon put the phone down!

I did recently say, in a suitable voice, 'Ello, eeez Igor.'
Then the bloke asked for me by name.
So I admitted it was indeed me, just in case it was an important call.
Then he began to try flogging me something I didn't want, so I said, in that case, eeet wurz Igor after all, and he fled.

the microsoft lady did not like my suggestion that she really was not from microsoft and called me 'a hacker, you are a bloody hacker' I laughed so much at her irate voice screeching it at me .... then hung up and did not answer when it rang a second later. I like the one I read that says in response to 'hi Im harold from xxx' 'Oh hello, do you have some ID?'... confused silence,' only I can't talk to you without ID, you might not be who you say you are'. oh and the one re: accidents.. 'yes I did have an accident, it was sadly fatal... I died y'know' usually met with silence.

I used to hand the phone over to ds1 and tell him they wanted to hear everything he knew about trains. He knew a LOT about trains. They usually hung up on him pretty quickly.

Sadly he is now 22 and unwilling to play along. Ungrateful child. WinkGrin

I don't think it's fair to be rude to cold callers, they are doing a job.

BUT I don't engage with them. When they call (very infrequently thank goodness) I just say I am on the Telephone Preference Service goodbye and put the phone down.

If they really want me they can write to me or send me an email.

I'd use the same tactic for scammers by the way, I just don't engage.

Place marking so I can use some of these brilliant ideas! Does anyone know what ca be done about the automated voice ones? Scared to leave it off the hook case it ends up costing me!

"My time-charge for listening to strangers is £200 per hour, please give me the number of your credit card".

My DH got a call recently from someone from the FBI Shock wanting to know if we'd invested in a particular company, which they were investigating for suspected fraudulent activities (allegedly Wink).

For my entertainment he put it on speakerphone and we spent an entertaining twenty minutes attempting to get a telephone number/supervisors name from this guy. He became frustrated that we couldn't seem to go along with his spiel; we weren't playing the game it seems.

DH kept repeating that we needed to verify his details and could he please supply us with the telephone number etc. He eventually hung up. We haven't been called back...sigh. Livened up a boring afternoon. Grin

I love the ones where they tell me I've had an accident. I always pretend that I've mistaken them for my doctor and angrily demand that they prescribe medication to cure the pain of my multiple injuries. Every time they mention compensation I become slightly more hysterical with my drug demands. Great fun.
