Is that a Devon or a Cornish?

I'm a jam last person. Cream first like butter, then jam.

iklboo · 10/03/2015 14:12

And NO butter.

HighwayDragon · 10/03/2015 14:13

butter Chaos, BUTTER?! You heathen.

ShatnersBassoon · 10/03/2015 14:15

Wait a minute. Butter? Shock I will smite you, and take your head from you. Or just defriend you if I actually know you.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/03/2015 14:16

WHAT THE...? Butter and cream? Angry

PermedOwlOfVeronica · 10/03/2015 14:16

Jam last, definitely no butter. Jam is too slippery to load adequate amounts of cream on top Grin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 10/03/2015 14:17

This is the evidence.

And yurs, butter rocks.

MrsGSR · 10/03/2015 14:22

Cream, then jam. I'm from Devon so I'm definitely right.

owlborn · 10/03/2015 14:24

Butter? What deviance is this!?!

Cream instead of butter and then jam. Another Devonian here.

QOD · 10/03/2015 14:25

Your photo shows butter, cream then jam.
donut Grin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 10/03/2015 14:27

Butter, Jam, Cream - Jersey Cream Tea
Cream, Jam - Devon Cream Tea
Jam, Cream - Cornish Cream Tea

From a girl who grew up in Devon and family is from Jersey.

Devon has it the best way.

Butter is best (esp Jersey butter) on Cheese Scones.

CaTsMaMmA · 10/03/2015 14:30

it depends on the cream...ALWAYS!

if it is clotted cream then break open the scone (don't ever cut it! NEVER!), daub cream liberally on both halves, splidge on jam, **flex muscles to lift fully laden scone to mouth, unhinge jaw and consume like a boa constrictor would consume a large marmoset.

if it is whipped cream then slather on butter, then jam, then pile on enough whipped cream to put Everest to shame and continue from ** as above

SetTheWorldOnFire · 10/03/2015 14:31

Never, ever butter with jam & cream. Cream first, then jam. I have had some lively discussions with a Cornish friend about this!

Runwayqueen · 10/03/2015 14:31

Another Devonian here

Cream then jam! No butter! It's not even worth eating it if you get the order wrong Smile

Debinaround · 10/03/2015 14:34

Are the people who say no to butter on glue?

ouryve · 10/03/2015 14:35

YABU and culturally insensitive.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 10/03/2015 14:39

Hmmm scones. Envy

ShatnersBassoon · 10/03/2015 14:44

There's a simple rhyme to help you remember the rules.

Scone with cheese, butter please.
Scone with jam, put the jam on first, then the cream (must be clotted) and don't put ruddy butter on it you fat-crazed sleaze.

Just bear it in mind next time you're struggling to get to grips with a cream tea in company.

HappyHippyChick · 10/03/2015 14:46

Shatners Grin

BigbyWolf · 10/03/2015 14:53

I've posted about this before under a different name.
I am Cornish.

Plain scone.
Cut in half.
Absolutely NO butter!
Jam first (preferably strawberry) then cream.

Devonians will tell you it's cream first but they're talking nonsense. We Cornish know how to make the best cream teas (and pasties).

So there.

DonttouchthatLarry · 10/03/2015 15:19

I couldn't care less and would just shove it in however it came Grin
