Probably am being unreasonable, but for some reason this expression just makes me absolutely cringe. I hate it with a passion and want to stab anyone who uses it.

AIBU and should I seek therapy?

YANBU

I only seem to hear/read the expression 'Yummy Mummies' used by women, as a dig at other women who like to dress well/take time over their appearance.

fluffygreentail · 10/03/2015 13:03

oh thanks for the explanation!

kerstina · 10/03/2015 13:08

Yes totally cringeworthy although would find it flattering if someone else called it me! Ridiculous to call yourself one.
I hate being called Hun it irritates me far more not sure why.

salthill · 10/03/2015 13:15

Sorry to sound stupid, but what does MILF stand for?

squoosh · 10/03/2015 13:17

Mother I'd Like To Fuck

salthill · 10/03/2015 13:20

Ah no wonder everyone hates it then.

stubbornstains · 10/03/2015 13:21

I may have been guilty of thinking the acronym FILF Blush

Also, on occasion, GILF (regarding Leonard Cohen, specifically) Blush Blush

fuddleduck · 10/03/2015 13:41

I know someone who is in a Facebook group called "Breastfeeding yummy mummies". If I was looking for BF support that name would put me right off.

passmethewineplease · 10/03/2015 13:45

I don't really like any phrases with mummy in them tbh.

GingerLDN · 10/03/2015 13:45

Manhattan I'm not keen on from scratch either there's something about it that makes me think 'smug'. I don't know why please don't hate me Wink

Vastra · 10/03/2015 14:11

YANBU, I'd hate to be described as 'yummy' regardless of maternal status, I am made of neither chocolate or cake.

Behindthepaintedgarden · 10/03/2015 14:12

I agree Pass. 'Mummy friends' etc eugh

We had a "hello mummy" song at baby peep. It was in my head all day and gave me the rage. I know they can't learn everyones name but I just don't want to constantly be referred to as mummy. E.g. How is Mummy today? Oh i'm fine. Not seen my mum but I think she is ok...

Chesntoots · 10/03/2015 14:26

The wife of one of my mates is friends with a group of mums from school.

They call THEMSELVES the "yummy mummies". Perhaps the name "we are a bunch of twats that are so up our own arses and nobody is as attractive, fashionable or interesting as us" was a bit too long...

AllTheNamesIWantHaveGone · 10/03/2015 17:19

YABU ! I do know this is only a lighthearted thread but really don't sweat the small stuff !! Having endured a history of miscarriage and multiple rounds of IVF to get my DS I absolutely love being called any version of mummy ! Yummy or otherwise !

comingintomyown · 10/03/2015 17:42

Ooh can I add "as a family" to the twee smug list ?

We went out to the cinema last night as a family. Why ?

I am getting old and bitter though I know

NobodyLivesHere · 10/03/2015 18:04

The word mummy used by anyone over the age of about 10 pisses me off.

Unthoughtknown · 10/03/2015 18:16

Yanbu. Hubby/ hubster and the term ' date night ' also upsets me greatly.

iLoveMushrooms · 10/03/2015 18:20

lol no i hate it too cringy as fuk

BoysRule · 10/03/2015 18:22

My mum used to call my changing bag my 'yummy mummy bag'. It made me want to punch her in the face.

There is actually a changing bag with yummy mummy embroidered on the side. That makes me want to hurl.

butterfly2015 · 10/03/2015 18:23

I despise it. It conjures up an image of a neglected baby because the yummy mummy is sat putting her make up on.

flora717 · 10/03/2015 18:33

I have a slummy mummy t-shirt. I wear it whenever I have to contend with the self proclaimed yummy mummys who rule the school PTA.

SaucyJack · 10/03/2015 18:34

I don't like the expression, but I also object to the PP's comment about a baby being neglected because their mum was putting make-up on.

ByronBaby · 10/03/2015 18:39

mothers are earth angels?! (laughing my head off) I am definitely not an earth angel. More a fishwife.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 10/03/2015 18:44

YANBU
I despise it almost as much as 'date night' and 'my partner' after five dates.

Sadly for me I have seen all three on my FB news feed at the same time
