many people here have no idea what it's like to have money worries

There seems to be a huge divide on here with many clearly having no clue what its like to have money problems. I do ok, I manage a good life but all it takes is a few bad events and my finances are in tatters. Loads of people that suggested I shouldn't fly because I wanted to save some money by avoiding ridiculous airport parking fees. When you have been forced to start putting everything on a credit card and know you won't be able to pay it off for months and will have to pay eye watering interest, then yes 50 pounds is a lot of money!

How far are you from the airport? Would it be possible to ask a friend to take you and bring you back as a favour that you could repay in kind at a later date - i.e. like a modern day bartering?

I wouldn't park in a random street for two weeks but then I used to live in a road which became the local railway station's overflow "free" car park and, although perfectly legal, was inconsiderate particularly when all spaces were gone and yet one more car just had to squeeze in somewhere.... usually at the expense of someone's access.

MinceSpy · 07/03/2015 09:25

So why are you taking a flight you can't afford? Stepchange can help you manage money worries.

Weebirdie · 07/03/2015 09:25

The poster is flying due to a bereavement and some paperwork that has to be done.

QuintessentiallyInShade · 07/03/2015 09:27

You have a car, that you chose to put petrol in, to drive to an airport, where you will pay parking charges, and fly off somewhere.

No wonder you have spectacularly in debt if you have not learnt to prioritize how you spend your money. What is wrong with a coach?

I spent £8 on taking an airport transfer coach - I booked mine through the easy jet website, I dont think you need to fly easy jet to book.

Trying to be helpful, but I am sure I will get an earful, so will take cover from a barrage of venom spewed.

tobysmum77 · 07/03/2015 09:27

OP
So would someone give you a lift? Might it be cheaper to go on a coach if not?

peggyundercrackers · 07/03/2015 09:29

£50 isn't a lot of money - even if you don't have it it's still not a lot of money, just means you don't have it... They are two completely different things.

fattymcfatfat · 07/03/2015 09:30

peggy to me and others 50 pounds is a lot of money. I can feed myself and my dcs a home cooked meal every night for a fortnight off 50/60 pounds.

keepsmiling2015 · 07/03/2015 09:32

But..you asked the question. People responded and now you're after starting another thread criticising their response and picking holes in it using the classic 'they don't get it'. It's bulls###t!

FuckItBucket · 07/03/2015 09:32

£50 is a lot of money to some. If I had £50 now I wouldn't know what to do with it Grin

I've seen this kind of thing on MN before. A poster says I have no money and the responses are:

Use your credit card
Surely you have at least £20
Do some ironing for money
Get another job

Like it's that simple. I have a 'friend' who announces she's skint too. By skint she means she has £100 to last her a few days and nothing to pay out.

When I say I'm skint I mean I'm lucky if I have £0.53 in the bank and £0.25 in purse!

suzzieanneba46 · 07/03/2015 09:33

Sorry for the tone of the thread, stresfull morning and I'm anxious at the moment. Probably not the best place to kill a bit of time.

Anyway the parking was all done this morning. Will forget about that for two weeks.

This is more just about people who don't understand you can't just magic money out of thin air.

OP posts:
TheSolitaryWanderer · 07/03/2015 09:33

As requested, I've looked at your other threads.
You belong to a gym and pay membership, you have log burners to heat your home and electric blankets, you have a DP that doesn't tip so that probably means that you go out to restaurants and you don't understand why the foodbank suggested that 10 packs of value pasta might be a better contribution than one bag of quality stuff.
So no, you may have money worries, but you still have a long way to fall before you are using the foodbank instead of donating.
Look at waht you are putting on CCs. Are they essentials?

turquoiseamethyst · 07/03/2015 09:34

Suzanne my dad died abroad 3 years ago and I was very snappy and angry because I was so sad Flowers

suzzieanneba46 · 07/03/2015 09:35

Use your credit card
Surely you have at least £20
Do some ironing for money
Get another job

That's exactly it!

thatsucks · 07/03/2015 09:36

Ok well it makes sense now you have said how you are feeling. I'm sorry you are anxious and have suffered a bereavement Thanks

pictish · 07/03/2015 09:37

I disagree that paying for parking is part of the cost of a trip btw. I'd not pay £50. I'd get the bus there and leave the car at home.

peggyundercrackers · 07/03/2015 09:38

Fatty chateau £50 isn't a lot of money - you need a lot of money to buy a house or a car or go on holiday or do a lot of other things but £50 won't do any of that - in general it's not a lot of money. I completely understand that some people don't have £50 to spend willy nilly on a whim but to me that doesn't mean it's a lot of money.

ilovesooty · 07/03/2015 09:40

There are lots of people on MN who have money worries. Try reading the Credit Crunch and Money Matters sections.

If I had your money worries I'd cancel my gym membership.

As for your parking thread, it demonstrates that money can't buy manners or courtesy.

I suspect you'll name change yet again after this little display of temper anyway.

Bailey101 · 07/03/2015 09:40

OP, I think it's you who doesn't understand the value of money - if you can afford to run a car or fly instead of getting a coach, then you're substantially better off then a lot of people.

Bowlersarm · 07/03/2015 09:40

What are you trying to achieve with this thread OP? Apart from the achievement of pissing a lot of posters off with your aggressive tone.

It's a huge site. Some people will be struggling, some people will be ok, some people will be very comfortable. It's not rocket science to know that.

I am lucky never to have known poverty. Hopefully I never will. I never take our good financial position for granted, and I know that in a worse case scenario there's a possibility it will all change for the worse.

fattymcfatfat · 07/03/2015 09:40

I have £4.13 in my purse. I do get paid again on Monday but I have shopping to buy, my phone bill to pay, rent to pay and try and find some money to fund clothing for the baby I am carrying as he cant wear my DDs old stuff as I had to give it back to a friend who lent it to me and she has now sold it on.
thats skint

QuintessentiallyInShade · 07/03/2015 09:40

Ok, so in your thinking, "I dont have £50, so I will put it on the credit card, my debts are so big I dont bother about trying to increase them less and spend less"?

adsy · 07/03/2015 09:41

Good points:
why are you eating out at restaurants if you're skint?
why are you a member of a gym if you're skint?
Why are you on some daft low carb expensive diet if you're skint?
You really don't know what it's like to be really skint, do you?

TheSolitaryWanderer · 07/03/2015 09:41

The gym fees are only about...£50. Grin

Bereavement and paperwork equals huge stress. Op if your an executor you can claim the expense of airfare and parking which may help. If you need to save the money then yes park and walk.
