Is any there anything legally / morally wrong with this? I would save almost 50 just for a short walk..

warmbedsocks I know someone that did this, he retuned to find his totally legally parked car had slashed tyres. I'm guessing the village he left the car in as close to a regional airport were sick of people doing it

Villagers possibly a bit dim then? Stuck with a car with slashed tyres for however long, prolonging the time its there for til they arrange tow/repair.

I am a really nice tolerant person, but if you parked outside my house for two weeks with out moving and returned during the evening/night/early morning you would probably find yourself parked in on your return. I don't like to waste curb space.

Charley50 · 05/03/2015 20:02

Do people really notice every car in their street? Nuts!

Feckeggblue · 05/03/2015 20:05

I can't stop laughing at street full of terrorists Grin

Course it's fine OP. You pay your road tax, park where you like. Have a nice holiday

suzzieanneba46 · 05/03/2015 20:14

God I'm really Confused at the response. On here the amount of people that would apparently notice a different car and how many seem to think parking on a public road warrents criminal damage. Shame on you.

Anyway the airport is Bristol, if anyone has a good suggestion? Might be better off parking several miles away and getting the bus for a few quid. Although I would like to save 50 the worry might not be worth it

you do love a good goady controversial thread don't you OP

maybe if you purchased cheaper pasta for the poor you could afford the parking Grin

suzzieanneba46 · 05/03/2015 20:21

I'm thinking about here as its on a green, not outside anyone's house and looks like I could get a normal bus for 90% of the way if weather is bad

I'm surprised you can afford a two week holiday in the first place if finances are that tight that you would consider resorting to this!

suzzieanneba46 · 05/03/2015 20:28

Where did I say it was a holiday.. Not everyone that uses an airport goes on holiday.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/03/2015 20:38

Why is public transport from your home not possible (knows that I should RTFT but urgh, long day)?

unlucky83 · 05/03/2015 20:44

I think if parking is tight it is inconsiderate...not something I would do.
But be warned and don't think this hasn't been mentioned but we park on the main road and the council decided to resurface it. The only warning we got was about 10 days before a letter through our doors telling us we couldn't park there for a few days.
I was going out on the day they started work and a neighbour's car was the only one on the entire road. One of the workmen asked me if I knew who it belonged to - then I realised the guy was probably working away (as he often did). I told them and they said if it hadn't been moved in the next hour it would be towed at the owner's expense Shock. I phoned around a few people and he had left a house key with a friend, luckily the car keys were in the house and they moved it for him.
I thought it was really unfair - you could have been holiday for 2 weeks! But I've always been reluctant to leave my car unattended for any length of time on a public road since.

stubbornstains · 05/03/2015 20:44

I wouldn't pay £50 to park in any airport parking. That's a lot of money for me.

I've done just this at Brizzle OP- IIRC, I parked on a side road in Knowle (a good 3 miles away from the airport at least), and the airport bus stopped at the end of the road. The car was fine, even though or perhaps because it's not a naice area.

ilovesooty · 05/03/2015 20:47

Fortunately I don't live near the airport but I live in a terraced street where I can come home at night and have to park on the next road as there are no spaces left at all. I know people can legally park where they like but I'd be pissed off if someone did that in my street and left their car for 2 weeks just to save money without giving a toss about the inconvenience to others.

laracroft2001 · 05/03/2015 20:54

Hmmm what airport?! My street is just over 2 miles from city airport..... Can never get parked on the street (thankfully I have off street parking)

VivaLeBeaver · 05/03/2015 20:58

Have you tried the park on my drive website or whatever it's called?

stubbornstains · 05/03/2015 21:07

If everyone has now managed to convince you that you WILL get your tyres slashed if you do this and you're now thoroughly freaked out Hmm, I also seem to recall that there are various establishments on the Bristol airport road offering much cheaper airport parking in their back yards, so a good old Google might bear fruit....

Gubbins · 05/03/2015 21:09

I live on a street of terraces and you'd be very welcome to park outside my house. I wouldn't have a scooby that it wasn't the bloke from the other side, up at the top or the woman from the next street along. IIt's a city; people sometimes don't use their cars for weeks on end. No one considers the space outside their house to be 'theirs' because you just park where you can. Sometimes it will be in front of the house, sometimes around the corner. No one cares. If you want a dedicated parking space, buy a property with a dedicated parking space. All these threats of keying and flat tyres are shocking. And people say London is unfriendly!

Gubbins · 05/03/2015 21:10

You'd be very welcome if I lived in Bristol. But I don't. Sorry.

MidniteScribbler · 05/03/2015 21:22

We had someone do this once. The alarm kept going off all bloody night and day. It was relentless. They came back two weeks later to a welcoming party of very sleep deprived residents.

Don't be a twat. Use a car park.

AmberLav · 05/03/2015 21:25

We know exactly who owns what car around here, on our terraced road, and it would totally piss us off if a random car was parked outside our house for 2 weeks... I would hope that you would only park at the end of a road, not obviously directed outside a particular house.

mummylin2495 · 05/03/2015 21:32

We flew from Bristol and not far from the airport there is a B&B place where they also let you park your car, you don't have to stay there, then someone will drive you into the airport. I can't remember exactly how much it was but it can't of been too much or dh wouldn't of parked up there !

GotTheKey · 05/03/2015 21:36

I live on a residential street and we have a drive but only for one car so I park on the road outside our house, as do the neighbours and we all have our unofficial parking spaces. When someone rocks up and parks there instead of using the car parking in town it's a pain. So no, it isn't illegal but it could be really frustrating for residents.

CelticPromise · 05/03/2015 21:37

It is convenient for A to park outside their house. It is convenient for B to park near the airport and save money. I don't know why you have more right to the public road because your house is next to it.

Topseyt · 05/03/2015 21:40

There's no website called Park at My House which puts you in touch with people renting out spare parking space at their home, usually for less than the extortionate prices at airports.

Might be worth a try, as surely your car would be safer off road.
