Is any there anything legally / morally wrong with this? I would save almost 50 just for a short walk..

There IS a website called... Bloody phone!!

MidniteScribbler · 05/03/2015 21:48

Looking at the link, that looks like a truly idiotic place to leave a car.

itchychin · 05/03/2015 21:49

I think most MY ROAD people or here are nuts. However, to add my caution to Unlucky's, I once went on holiday with my friend for 2 weeks. We both parked near her house. The road was resurfaced without notice and both our cars ended up being towed away!! (We got the money back - they'd move us to double yellows and left us there for a week then towed us away) but it wasn't nice to come back to!). Shock

suzzieanneba46 · 05/03/2015 21:50

All the places on park on my drive are between 68-75 Shock stupidly high. Makes the unofficial pre booked car park look cheap at 50!

Gah I wouldn't mind paying a reasonable price for the service you get, 2-3 quid a day IMO. Then again I've never paid for parking, usually opt for a 15 min walk wherever I go.

Someone parked their car in our road and bogged off for weeks. The alarm went off and after 18 hours of it my elderly neighbour hit the bonnet with a hammer until it stopped. Funnily enough, they never parked there again.

suzzieanneba46 · 05/03/2015 21:52

Why is that place idotic? It was on the green triangle I was planning on parking

OP posts:
DragonMamma · 05/03/2015 22:04

I personally wouldn't.

We've parked here previously and they've been good service and cheap as chips

It's right opposite a pub, it's narrow road, it's a small village not a major residential zone in the middle of London. There is no way they aren't going to be pissed off with you leaving a car there for two weeks.

Blamenargles · 05/03/2015 22:27

I wouldn't want to leave my car there as Pp said pub, school up one road, looks like a small but possible busy road for traffic.
Maybe a bit of a strange comment but not many other cars are parked there which would make me wonder why

iolanthefairyqueen · 05/03/2015 22:42

Someone left a car outside my house while they buggered off went on holiday to the Channel Islands for a week. Second night in their car alarm went off (kids threw football at it). Alarm went off/on for hours and neighbours called police. They crawled all over it and found dodgy tyre. Refreshed and relaxed the car's owners came back to a summons for worn tyre and a flat battery. Oh how we laughed!

peutetre · 05/03/2015 22:50

Great idea - I've often thought of doing this but have worried about the car being vandalised.

Redglitter · 05/03/2015 22:57

Even if someone reports it as abandoned it makes no difference. If it's reported as suspect stolen/ abandoned then it'll be checked on the PNC & so long as it's taxed mot'd and insured then nothing will happen.

pourmeanotherglass · 05/03/2015 22:57

If the street has terraces, then no-one will have off street parking, and there will probably not be enough spaces to go around. Better to park on a street where the houses have drives if you can find one.

ilovesooty · 05/03/2015 23:01

Exactly: though it would seemingly not bother the OP and others like her.

Capricorn76 · 05/03/2015 23:03

Personally I wouldn't do it, there are some nutters that believe nobody else is allowed to park in front of their home.

We parked a few streets away for three days whilst works were going on in our street and one of the residents slashed one of our tyres.

straighttothepoint · 06/03/2015 06:48

Generally most roads are squeezed for parking places for residents, so to have you leave your car for 2 weeks would be annoying and inconsiderate. Imagine if everyone did it. Just pay the £50. Reclaim it from work if your are not going on holiday. Yabu

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/03/2015 06:58

It might be legal but it is selfish and inconsiderate.

chrome100 · 06/03/2015 07:01

I don't see why not. I wouldn't give a shit if there was a car parked on my street for 2 weeks. Some people are very precious about parking.

tobysmum77 · 06/03/2015 07:14

in my opinion yabu. That's because I generally try not to annoy people and consider their feelings. yes it's legal, ok but there's more to it than that imo. If I couldn't afford airparks I wouldn't fly.

MsVestibule · 06/03/2015 07:26

I have always lived on terraced streets with no off street parking. I know I have no legal claim on the bit of road outside my house, but yes, it would piss me off if somebody left their car there for 2 weeks. It shows an astounding lack of consideration for others.

Some posters have wondered how anybody would even notice - if you live on a quiet street rather than a busy city centre, of course you're going to notice a strange car! I also hate the 'don't they have anything else in their lives to worry about?' line - does that mean that none of us are allowed to be irritated about anything that isn't life threatening?

'I did this at Luton airport when I lived in St A. Nothing happened. At all.'
Flora, wouldn't it have been easier and roughly the same price just to do 2 stops on the train right into the airport? Confused a £10 train ticket Vs maybe £3 or £4 in petrol plus the hassle.

motorwaymadness · 06/03/2015 07:36

Yes some people are precious about parking.......BUT.... some people have a point.

the point i particularly like is...

Don't be a twat. Use a car park

TheLeftovermonster · 06/03/2015 07:36

We've mostly lived with no off-street parking but it never occurred to me to question people's reasons for parking on the street - it's legal, so they can - end of story!
Do people also mind others driving on 'their' road then?

Crabstick · 06/03/2015 07:52

I would not feel comfortable leaving my car unattended for weeks. £50 is a lot but if something happens too it the cost will prob be more than £50.
