to park my car on a residential street for two weeks and walk two miles to the airport

Is any there anything legally / morally wrong with this? I would save almost 50 just for a short walk..

Nothing wrong with it legally. I imagine if its a regular occurrence the residents get hacked off. But equally I doubt many people can be bothered to walk 2 miles with luggage both ways to save £50. What if your flight is delayed and you have to walk back at 1am?

Indantherene · 05/03/2015 15:19

I don't live 2 miles from any airport, but an unknown car parked outside my house for 2 weeks would seriously piss me off.

Would it be worth saving £50 if somebody decided to have your car towed? Legally you are probably OK, but unless you can park so you aren't directly in front of somebody's house I would say morally you are on dodgy ground.

CapnMurica · 05/03/2015 15:20

No, but I'd get a cab from my car to the airport Smile

manicinsomniac · 05/03/2015 15:22

Legally wrong? No.

Morally wrong? Maybe. Depends how busy the street is I guess.

There probably aren't lots of people doing it as I doubt many could be bothered but if there are already lots of residents fighting for spaces it will be very annoying for them.

kewtogetin · 05/03/2015 15:22

God that's tight. Get someone to drop you off at the airport if £50 is such a big issue.

StrawberryAndScream · 05/03/2015 15:32

Nothing illegal about it as long as you're not blocking anyone's access. But really? A two mile walk to save a few quid? Is it worth it when you're going to be trekking to the airport and back with luggage in the rain? And yes, it will be raining - and then two miles won't feel like a 'short walk'.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 05/03/2015 15:35

Not illegal, but is it overall far from your own home?if so, and the car is reported due to someone thinking its been dumped there, the police may think it has been stolen if quite a distance from your house.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 05/03/2015 15:35

You can park anywhere you darn like, as long as you park legally/ are taxed etc.

£50 is a lot of money to many people Kew (though probably not many in Kew...)

drbonnieblossman · 05/03/2015 15:36

If your car is taxed and legal, and parked legally you can park wherever you like, for whatever period of time you like.

No point residents getting upset because you're outside their house on the road, they have no say in it.

mildlyacquiescent · 05/03/2015 15:36

My cousin did this and had his car nicked by 11-year-old joyriders. Grin

flimmyflam · 05/03/2015 15:40

I don't see the problem with this. "Morally wrong" to park your car where there are no parking restrictions? Ffs!

adora1985 · 05/03/2015 15:40

If you're getting a cab then you'll won't be saving £50 then? Unless you've already accounted for it, but I'd pay the £50 and have the peace of mind that my car's safe and not going to be towed/stolen/reported by the residents as abandoned.

suzzieanneba46 · 05/03/2015 15:40

Well if I got a taxi both ways I would still save well over 30 quid. Might not be much to some but is for me.

Well it would still be covered by the insurance if it was stolen I presume? The street I'm targeting is full of terrorist's so I'm not sure how they would know if it didn't belong to a neighbours (unless theybwre really sad).

A car parked outside your house pisses you off? You really must not have many worries in life!

Terraces!

OP posts:
Samcro · 05/03/2015 15:44

i imagine it would be reported as a abandoned.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 05/03/2015 15:44

If you're planning on a taxi and only saving just over £30.00, then there's no way I'd bother personally.

Will you park it directly in front of someone's house? Do the residents have off-street parking or will you be taking someone's 'parking space' in front of their house?

GetSober · 05/03/2015 15:48

Terrorists Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 05/03/2015 15:49

I say please yourself. Who cares if someone doesn't like cars they don't recognise outside their house? It's not going to cause any actual harm, just partially block someone's view of the road.

trulybadlydeeply · 05/03/2015 15:50

Love that it's a street full of terrorist Grin

YANBU to park it legally on a street. There is little the residents can do.

Collaborate · 05/03/2015 15:50

You won't be taking anyone's parking space from in front of their house, precisely because no one owns the f*ing space in front of their house. If you piss them off by doing that, who gives a shit?

IvanOsokin · 05/03/2015 15:50

You're legally entitled to park your car in any legitimate parking space, whether that's near your home or not, or outside someone's house or not.

People get funny about 'their' parking spaces but if it's just an unrestricted space on the road outside their house then they have no more right to park in it than you do.

Having said that, when people have left their cars parked near us and gone on holiday, and it's caused us problems with parking, it's annoying. But that's our problem, not theirs!

AgathaF · 05/03/2015 15:53

If the street is full of terraces then the residents probably have enough trouble parking their own cars without inconsiderate people like you making it more difficult for them.

If £30-50 is so much for you, perhaps you should have built your parking budget in to your holiday allowance when you booked it.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 05/03/2015 15:55

I can't believe that a car parked legally in the street can piss someone off?

I visited my gran once and the council were fixing the road outside her house so I parked two houses away. The next morning I got a frantic call from my dad as police had contacted him - someone had reported my "abandoned car" outside their house. I looked out the window & it was exactly where I left it - parked legally on the street for less than 24hrs!

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/03/2015 15:55

A car parked outside your house pisses you off? You really must not have many worries in life! You did ask. And someone answered. When I lived in the UK parking spaces were like hens' teeth and it was a total PITA when there were no parking spaces available so yes, someone parking somewhere for two weeks and not moving their car would have pissed me off.

Not illegal but it could make life just a tiny bit shitter for other people for a while. If that's worth 30 quid to you, your choice.

Libitina · 05/03/2015 15:58

I legally parked my car in a residential street near a naice village railway station for a Saturday night. Came back to find my car had been keyed. Angry
