Its making my eyes water. I haven't broached it yet but we have a birthday party to go to later.

AIBU to engineer a weetabix accident over breakfast?

My DS (18) who dresses entirely in Urban Outfitters has trousers and a shirt of similar hue and wears them to go out of an evening. He is a redhead and has always been a bit of a charmer (euphemism for teenage heart breaker).
Your DS is a hipster in the making. I think he looks great.

Moln · 01/03/2015 09:05

He looks way better than I thought he would from your first post! They actually suit each other.

Also like the floor.

PandasRock · 01/03/2015 09:05

Thanks, Juniper, I'll take a look.

Ime, European brands generally have unisex trousers up,to about age 12 or so, and dd1 has certainly not suffered at all from wearing unisex trousers up until now (a tall 10 year old).

ahbollocks · 01/03/2015 09:07

He looks great. I love colours on boys!

HellonHeels · 01/03/2015 09:13

What bothers you about the outfit? Do you think it reflects badly on you?

flightywoman · 01/03/2015 09:15

I have a Boden skirt which is red with a broad purple stripe on the bottom, I love it, it works and there's nothing wrong with it.

Your son looks ace.

My daughter is mixing her cultural icons today with Hello Kitty AND Disney Rapunzel. I thought about saying something and decided not to. She can choose what she wants to wear on the two days of the week that she doesn't have to wear uniform.

snowaccidentprone · 01/03/2015 09:17

I used to wear purple cords and a red polo neck as a child. I thought I looked great. Dm, not so much.

But does it matter?

TiggyD · 01/03/2015 09:20

He looks great. Which leads me to have concerns about the OP's taste.

rattling · 01/03/2015 09:23

I had exactly the opposite problem last week. DS has a range of bright clothes so he can clash to my his heart's content. When he managed to did out a pair of navy jogging bottoms and a light blue/beige T-shirt I was horrified. He does like to wear his tights and tutu, but would be far too cold so I do have to step in then.

Sausages123 · 01/03/2015 09:25

I love it, my 4 year old loves yellow and has just chosen his yellow joggers and a yellow tshirt, luckily it is chilly here today so have just directed him towards a long sleeved top!

CaTsMaMmA · 01/03/2015 09:27

surely no one will judge you? ...so long as they are warm and clean (ish)

Once my lot could dress themselves we just rolled with it, dd often used to end up in tesco in a fabulous party frock. I did draw the line at leaving the house on swimsuit, tights (over the top) and wellington day though.

Just confiscate anything too small or too holey. DS1 had a particular pair of jammies though that he could not let go off...I tried everything but he always asked for them, by the time we did get rid of them they were too small to fit his 3 years younger brother.

CaTsMaMmA · 01/03/2015 09:29

and ahahahaha @ *flighty and her cultural icons! :o

Jbck · 01/03/2015 09:30

He goes well with the wallpaper Grin

Looks fine but I get antsy at times with some of the DDs choices and I 'steer' them to my way of thinking if it's really bad.

DD2(7) went out yesterday in pink heart print over the knee sox, denim shorts and a grey and pink converse tshirt. It was about 2 degrees and blowing a gale but she was only out of the car for a minute or two and said she was fine so I left her to it. She made other people feel cold but she was fine.

Theyvallgone · 01/03/2015 09:35

I think he looks fab ... he's going to be one cool kid. Leave him be :)

hideandseekpig · 01/03/2015 09:36

snowaccidentprone joining the thread to say I also used to wear purple cords and a red polo neck!! My mum didn't flinch bless her!

I think your son looks quite trendy actually. Definitely let him wear it, no reason why not.

elQuintoConyo · 01/03/2015 09:38

He is dressed like a child.

I don't get it.

Were you planning on wearing orange today, Juniper? Would you all clash?

Fwiw my DS wore red trousers yesterday with a lime green top (with Scrat from Ice Age hanging off it, it's very cute!) under a grey grandad cardi with brown elbow patches. He chose it himself. He was a rainbow in a sea of sludge and blue Grin

TendonQueen · 01/03/2015 09:40

Now I've seen the photo, it looks fine! All the teen hipsters round my way dress like that. He's ahead of the curve..

ragged · 01/03/2015 09:41

He's lovely! Kids should be in bright colours. I can't get my 7yo to wear anything but black right now. Argh.

iseenodust · 01/03/2015 09:42

Looks great. DS's favourite colour for trousers for a couple of years was bright orange. Anything is preferable to black/khaki/skull&crossbones.

Mrsjayy · 01/03/2015 09:43

Just seen the pictures that go's just leave him to it.

TheSecretCervix · 01/03/2015 09:46

DS is currently wearing dinosaur pj's with an 'Elsa' dress over the top, Elsa clip plait in his hair and purple crown to finish the look off.
It's very Vivienne Westwood Grin

liquidstateisonthemulled · 01/03/2015 09:48

He's a child. Love to see children in colours. Would happily put my DD in that.

And she rocks patterned skirts with stripey tights.

Why be dull?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/03/2015 09:54

OP... maybe your own sense of style needs a bit of a tweak?

I think you're being 'lighthearted' so I won't say anything about controlling, obnoxious parents who froth and impose their views about things that just don't matter.

Don't spill water or anything on him, he looks great in that outfit.

Joshuajosephspork · 01/03/2015 10:00

That looks like something my dad would wear. He's 87.

Quite frankly as long as my kids were decent and suitably clad in terms of warmth I never cared what they wore. We had the wellies and water wings look for a week or so when my daughter was about three which was a bit of a pain in terms of getting cardies on and off but otherwise fine

SummerHouse · 01/03/2015 10:03

People are talking like red and purple are good together. I do not think they are easy partners but I do think your ds is pulling the look off. Yanbu to think that red and purple don't go.
