To find the cat vigorously washing itself next to me gross

His breath smells strongly of cat food and he's really going for his daily bath.

Meanwhile I'm trying to eat my lunch!

Aibu to find this gross and boot the cat out?

Move him or move away.
I don't like it, our cat only has go clack his mouth about to make me come over a bit faint.

Topseyt · 25/02/2015 13:14

It is what cats do though. I have a feeling they find the way we bathe/shower appalling, hence they would rather flee out of the cat flap and not come back for hours at the merest splash of water onto them.

They probably wonder why we don't lick ourselves clean just like they do. Grin

EatDessertFirst · 25/02/2015 13:20

Cats sense discomfort. Your cat is clearly doing it on purpose so you must work out why and remedy it at once.

Did you feed yourself and not him (even if he is not due food)?

Are you sitting in HIS spot?

Have you had a shower/bath/wash in his presence and he has taken offence to it?

Etc, etc.....

TattyDevine · 25/02/2015 13:27

Mine is currently gobbing on her foot and smearing it all around her face. I think she's giving herself a facial.

She's so fucking cute though, furry splendour.

Her gob doesn't half reek though.

Crocodopolis · 25/02/2015 13:28

It could be worse. I used to have a Siamese who used to sit in front of guests and wash his genitalia. He used to stick his little Siamese penis out during his ablutions and make sure that got washed, too.

My guests all thought it a hoot and used to comment on his habits.

He was unneutered - no need to neuter him as he was daft as a brush and showed no interest in sex - and had the most amazingly huge balls. It was another thing that guests were also (excuse the pun) exposed to and commented on.

My landlord - who is frightfully posh - just says to his cat in his poshest accent - "oh, must you do that?"

Mind you, he also says to the cat (when he calls the cat to supper and the cat ignores him) "Would sir like it served hot or cold?"

He also tells the cat "No elbows on the table until you're an aunt."

Millyx · 25/02/2015 15:05

its annoys ne but its what cats do maybe your cat has fleas or is feeling uncomfortable as they do this to calm them self down sometimes also if the cat feels safe near u thats why they do it

Stinkersmum · 25/02/2015 15:09

YABU. His breath probably only stinks because you feed him cheapshit food.

mytartanscarf · 25/02/2015 15:10

Well, he seems to enjoy it!

My cat washes his "lipstick" when we have guests .
Then he does this smug grin !

mytartanscarf · 25/02/2015 15:16

They DO!

You think that's bad I once had a dog who used to wait till people came round for tea and then have a wank in front of them. Seriously.

Wrt that cat.. I just shove my off the arm of the chair when they start licking themselves. My big cat particularly thinks I am evil personified.. The looks she gives me!

Pyjamaface · 25/02/2015 15:22

Pyjamacat only cleans next to me when I have my fleecy pj bottoms on. She'll plonk herself down and pretend to clean just so she can lick the fleece and it gives me the heebs

Shockers · 25/02/2015 16:37

My cat sits on my neck at around 4.30am every day. Then he washes between his toes. This involves a biting movement which shoves his whole body violently into my chin. I've learnt to find it relaxing... it's the only way to stay sane.

limitedperiodonly · 25/02/2015 16:43

My cat washes me. Apparently he's treating me as a junior member of his tribe.

AlpacaPicnic · 25/02/2015 16:46

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I hate it when my cat leans against me and licks his self. It feels indecent.
Mind you, recently he's started humping my leg. It's awful. I've seen more cat willy over the past week than I have in the past 7 years of being owned by him.

squoosh · 25/02/2015 16:55

Vile creatures.

I want to yell at them 'you aren't cleaning yourself, you're just covering yourself in cat spit'. But then people would be nudging each other and pointing at the woman ranting at the cat.

ohmyactualgiddyaunt · 25/02/2015 16:58

One of my cats 'sleeps' next to me on the bed. Every single night. Except the furry little git does anything but sleep. Mostly he cleans himself and the sound of lick lick lick all night long makes me want to scream with rage.

Offler · 25/02/2015 17:12

Stumpybum is also a champion washer, she waits until you think you are safe in bed, then jumps up and starts the gnawing. She either uses us as a platform or a prop to help her (she sometimes has trouble with her back legs since she got squashed by a car last year - she has no tail, so we are saved the washing of that!)

She also 'creeps' up the bed as she wants to be as close to our faces as possible...I dislike that and move her, but DP is cat softy man and lets her get away with it Grin.

NorbertDentressangle · 25/02/2015 17:14

The general washing isn't so bad, it's when they home in on their nether regions and really start going for it that I used to have to say "enough!"

emms1981 · 25/02/2015 17:17

My cat sits on her bum with her legs spread out licking her belly, she did it yesterday and me and my 5 year old were laughing, she have us a filthy look.

AlpacaPicnic · 25/02/2015 17:20

Oh I forgot to mention... My cats love the sight of me in the shower. One sits on the edge of the bath and watches me. The other one sits on the bath mat right where I need yo stand to dry off, then jumps in after I've gotten out and licks up my shower water - eww

foofooyeah · 25/02/2015 17:21

shockers and alpaca that did make me laugh!

emms1981 · 25/02/2015 17:26

Mine washes my face and hair. If I move (he usually clamps one large paw on my head), he whacks me with his other paw.

ohmyactualgiddyaunt · 25/02/2015 19:35

Another of mine sits on the edge of the bath every single time I get in there. She drinks from it unless I have bubbles in it. She won't drink from anything other than a running cold tap, the fussy little madam.
