to laugh at this second-hand wedding drama?

It's second hand because it's actually happening to someone I know vaguely on FB who is in America.

She is getting married! And man, does everybody need to know about it! So far she's had:

An engagement shower (which seemed to be a party just for her thrown by her mother)

An engagement party (for the couple and potential invites to the wedding)

A wedding shower (same again?)

A bachelorette party (hen do)

Sent out save the dates (which I'd never heard of before her fb post about "looking out for them"), invitations, RSVP cards. And on and on.

Many many public dramas on the way, including rants about the fact that some people RSVP'd "sorry I can't attend" AFTER getting their save the date cards - she sent the save the dates SEVENTEEN MONTHS before the wedding. I'm sure most people had lost them by the time the correct year rolled around!

Anyway the wedding is this weekend (yay! An end to it all!). This week's FB drama is that people are cancelling last minute. She posted a screen grab of a text convo today though that has had me scraping my chin all day (my jaw is on the floor). It said:

Friend: Wanted to warn you hun, I won't be able to make it on Saturday. I'm so sorry. I'll call you tonight.
Bride: You know what, DON'T call me. You're the second to do this. So sick of selfish people wrecking my special day.
Friend: Mum died this morning.

Bride is on FB asking her friend list AIBU to think that "if her mum died on Monday then she could totally attend a wedding on Saturday".

Amazing.

And before anyone says it, yes I know I should unfollow/unfriend but I am shamefully addicted to this stuff... Blush

SuperTarget here is humongous, has big veggie/fruit section, bakery, deli-fancy cheese, fresh meats'fish, miles of grocery aisles, big booze and frozen section, as well as clothes, auto care, hardware but no paint section, shoes, housewares, bikes, you name it. It's always full of tantrumming toddlers and it turns into a zoo when they sell back to school supplies. The Walmart nearest me featured a shooting in the parking lot at Christmas 2013 when a dispute that started in the checkout line got finished outside. You can buy live bait from a little fridge full of whatever live bait is right at the back. I think it is possibly several pegs below Nethuns.

'On offer' is used around here.
Is this an upper midwest shindig?

mortil2 · 27/02/2015 06:37

Wish I had friends like that on fb. I got one from a friend with a link to utube showing his wife reverse with a trailer.

Oooh, math a little linguistic locational detective work there! By the end of the breakfast on Sunday we will have figured out where it is.

This is me, not putting down a fresh bookmark. No sirree!

Hokiya · 27/02/2015 12:09

Definitely rhymes with cone Grin

Any news OP?

mothergoose98 · 27/02/2015 12:25

.............LMAO

TweeStuff · 27/02/2015 12:37

Op, please tell us where the Bridegroom lives Thanks

It's hardly going to out her.

Alyosha · 27/02/2015 12:37

I also find it extremely interesting that if anyone dares question an individual parent's account of how vaccines caused their child's autism, the anti-vax crowd starts fulminating.

But apparently questioning medical professionals who have told someone's husband that his infertility was caused by mumps is totally different...

Alyosha · 27/02/2015 12:38

totally wrong thread!

SuperFlyHigh · 27/02/2015 13:01

I've just checked online and the bridal shower is usually for receiving gifts. and it's tacky for the mother to host the bridal shower BUT family members who wish to celebrate the upcoming wedding can host a bridal tea, bridesmaids' luncheon, engagement announcement party or other relevant event or another non gift oriented party for B&G. so these parties generally don't ask for gifts apart from bridal shower! In fact it's quite nice to hold extra events if some guests can't make eg the bachelorette party.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridal_shower

so the mother wasn't being wrong there... or grabby.

Target I quite like - it had a great range of Liberty stuff like candles a few years back (I bought some)has a good instore pharmacy , Wal Mart my friend doesn't go to it much, sees it a place she wouldn't shop or too far away. They also have Safeways in USA in some states which I mourn the stores now having left UK a few years back! Also most Targets have blenders etc... My friend (for any USA people) shops at Shop Rite (good bargains?). and on my final USA miss list is Panera. sob why isn't that over here in UK?!

HairyOrk · 27/02/2015 13:18

Place marking.

Looks like she is going to be severely disappointed with married life.

FatSwan · 27/02/2015 13:21

Target is amazing. When it was here (in Canada) I went there for everything.

I hope someone gives this bridezilla a gift certificate for Target in an envelope.

changeshow · 27/02/2015 14:08

Missoni did a range for Target - looked really nice on eBay [well jel]

As you were....

ZingNinjaRoll · 27/02/2015 14:50

I'd give her a book titled "How not to be a cunt"

if it existed. i must write it

AcrossthePond55 · 27/02/2015 14:54

Hey everybody!!!! Only ONE DAY until THE WEDDING!!! (Just trying to get into the Bridezilla spirit of the occasion)

And mark my place Grin

Target is fab. Our local WalMart does have great prices on paper goods though. But I'll only go there very early in the morning before the 'regulars' show up. And I wear a hat and sunglasses so none of my naice neighbours (who are also there in disguise) recognize me.

momb · 27/02/2015 15:18

Isn't it the rehearsal meals/rehearsal/rehearsal get together, rehearsal tantrum and rehearsal favours today?

Will they just rehearse the ceremony or the entire reception as well? Are the B+G even speaking at the moment? So many question!!!

mathanxiety · 27/02/2015 15:22

They definitely do have blenders in Target. And loads of coffee machines, microwaves, etc. I got DD1 some pyrex baking dishes there for Christmas for her apartment. Nothing says Merry Christmas like a pile of pyrex under the tree.

Showers have always been a feature of the American wedding scene afaik, and also the American baby scene. An elderly neighbour of exMIL's threw a bridal shower for me back when I first went to the US as a newlywed. It was held in the top floor diningroom of a swanky hotel and we had a luncheon with cold cucumber soup and other ladylike fare. There were lots of members of the blue rinse set in attendance, all very curious to meet their very first Irish person and hear my 'brogue', and some of my SILs and their cousins and a few of their friends. I hauled a lot of great stuff home as well as a few fancy looking bowls from Service Merchandise whose purpose was not immediately obvious.

AlpacaLypse · 27/02/2015 15:26

Is there anything like Aldi or Lidl? Discount supermarkets where it's actually cool to be seen filling up your Waitrose account holder green bags with yummy German deli stuff at a quarter of the price Waitrose charge?

Suefla62 · 27/02/2015 15:41

There's loads of Aldi's. Haven't seen many lidl's.

Thumbwitch · 27/02/2015 15:50

Aldi is in Australia too! Haven't seen Lidl here yet though but I don't live in a big city so it might be. In fact, we might even be getting one in our own town soon...

DeladionInch · 27/02/2015 15:58

there's a company near me that has a trained owl who will fly the rings down the aisle for you

if I had £400 spare I so would

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 27/02/2015 16:04
