I'm ready to take this on the head if i really ABU....

DS (18) strolled into the kitchen last night and said he and a group of friends are thinking of going on holiday this summer, after A'levels.

To Magaluf.

Over. My. Dead. Body. I said.

I mean, i know IBU. But ugh. Magaluf?

Sharing the pain my 18 year old DS (only child) has plans for Shagaluf this summer too!!
I feel the same but can't stop him... I did really deeply think about booking the same hotel etc for the fortnight they'd be there :)

Fuddy duddy Shock

Boy turned up from a night out in town at 5am the other day just as I was getting up for work. I barely batted an eyelid. I was proud of my non fuddy duddiness.

And what was your first parentless holiday like, Violet?

mine did it, got the tattoo (kavos 2011) Sad then returned the following year to work the season Smile i brought him a huge bag of condoms and lube home from work (health promotion) thought it would embarrass him but ... nope, put a picture on twitter of the lot saying 'look what my mam brought me home lol@

StayGoldPonyBoy · 22/02/2015 17:26

Find him a nice girlfriend. I 'ruined' my DHs 18th birthday according to FIL by taking him for a week in Morocco instead of him going off to Ibiza with his mates. He didn't want to go, for the record, but he probably would have had he been single! Grin

I went to Morocco when I was 18 (40+ years ago - how did that happen??)

Best holiday of my life!

I did this after my A levels - four guys, four girls, two cars each driven driven by an 18 yo boy!!!(that is the bit that scares me most with hindsight) across France into Spain six weeks camping.

I don't know how my poor mother slept. Not just inexperienced drivers but driving on the wrong side of the road. And we didn't skinp on the local brews either so now I think about it the cumulative effect must have placed them over the limit even the next day on a fair few occasions.

We had a blast though. Lots of moments that we didn't telk the parents about for a few years but our DC know the stories inside out (DH is one of the boys .. we came back as an item.. ).

My 18 yo dd is off on the post A level rite of passage this year. Marbella apparently ... I've never been and I'm trying not to look at any reviews though I don't think its quite Magaluf.. ( said in a hopeful voice).

I went to Morocco when I was 23. Worst holiday of my life Wink

Think I would have been far more comfortable in Magaluf.

laughingmyarseoff · 22/02/2015 19:25

lol he doesn't want culture, he wants to get pissed and get laid. That's a 99% sure thing in Magaluf hence it's nickname shagluf.

Make sure he takes condoms, gets travel insurance etc.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 22/02/2015 19:46

Would you be happier if he was going to S.E. Asia for as long as he could make the money last, but aiming for about 10 months turningviolet ? Wink It sounds more cultural, and sometimes is, but Goa and Ko Samui (which I can't remember how to spell) and Bali are much further away, and you wouldn't even see him in between ... Wink (I worked the summer tourist season after A levels then left in September ... I did do a 5 month volunteer placement in India but then the backpacker circuit, eating once a day and sleeping on hostel roof terraces to save a few pence and stay away as long as possible). I had a uni place to go back for, but almost went to China for another year with a 28 year old Australian hippie I fell for in Vietnam instead... Grin (I've never told my parents that).
