to think they should charge the Syria girls

If they are indeed with terrorists in Syria then when a small chink of sense comes back to them and they want to come home, I hope they will be charged.

ok ive just read you can control your sexual urges
forget being a politician then

funnyossity · 21/02/2015 13:11

Mutters I did think it was like a very extreme version of the unsuitable but exciting boyfriend scenario played out by quite a few teenagers.

aurorablues · 21/02/2015 13:11

All of you discussing this as if it's complete fact.

What makes you think this "Jihadi Brides" thing is actually true?

worksallhours · 21/02/2015 13:11

The problem, nochocolate, is that it is pretty easy for pro-jihadi voices to claim the western coverage of IS is propaganda because "the West wants to oppress all Muslims, prevent Muslim countries from living according to the true laws of sharia and steal Muslim natural resources for themselves."

If that doesn't work, then the "We may execute and enslave the kuffr according to sharia principles, but their bombs burn Muslim babies and massacre our Muslim brothers and sisters. We are only fighting them in the way they fight us" probably will.

MuttersDarkly · 21/02/2015 13:12

.any chance youd consider becoming a politician?

I'm not even allowed to vote. Grin

funnyossity · 21/02/2015 13:12

aurora, what's the alternative story about this?

nochocolateforlentteacake · 21/02/2015 13:12

It is likely that they have run off to be a bride. Not to be a fighter, or really just off to Turkey for a girly beach holiday.

Stealthpolarbear · 21/02/2015 13:15

lease dont tell me your only 15. my inferiority complex couldnt cope

SpecificOcean · 21/02/2015 13:16

Silly girls, I don't feel one bit of sympathy.
They will be used for whatever by those IS lunatics. Their mistakes will hopefully, but probably not, send a message to others.

meditrina · 21/02/2015 13:16

Or they've gone for the Islamic 'utopia' and believe they will be key founders of a perfect welfare system.

It's only very recently that aid workers have by and large stopped going to certain areas. That sort of vocation, if you believe you will be safe, might also be a factor.

And remember always that IS are also dealing a cyber version of agitprop. What's in this for them? Quite a lot, I guess, if these girls appear online, happy and doing useful work.

aurorablues · 21/02/2015 13:16

funnyossity, i have no alternative story about this, nor have i found one.

I'm just interested to know why people believe it is fact?

Stealthpolarbear · 21/02/2015 13:16

aaargh youre

funnyossity · 21/02/2015 13:19

It's likely given the circs.

aurorablues · 21/02/2015 13:20

Why is it likely?

funnyossity · 21/02/2015 13:23

The police and families see it as likely.

MuttersDarkly · 21/02/2015 13:24

please dont tell me your only 15

[girn] Slightly older than that at 47.

I can't vote in the UK becuase I've been gone too long, and wouldn't anyway becuase the idea of voting for what I personally don't have to live with makes me feel uncomfortable. I can't vote here becuase I can't face the burocrasy and "loose translation of what counts as queueing" involved in buying a stamp.... I'd never cope with applying for citizenship. There would be another "incident".

Viviennemary · 21/02/2015 13:27

I agree Mutters. The idea of some Jihaddi (sp?) warlord carrying you off might be quite attractive to a young girl. Much like knight in shining armour in days of old. The more I think about it they are very foolish but not criminals.

aurorablues · 21/02/2015 13:31

They think it's likely based on what factual proof?

funnyossity · 21/02/2015 13:37

At the risk of stating the obvious if they had proof the would not just be thinking it's likely.

salthill · 21/02/2015 13:40

I dont feel sorry for them in the slightest. We were all that age once and most of us knew good from bad. Most young girls would be seriously repulsed by what they see Isis do, I find it appalling that any girl could have any romantic notions about them. If they think they're going to be treated well, they're in for a bit of a shock. They just beheaded one of their own for.....smoking a cigarette. Yes it wouldn't take much to upset them. Apart from that there's a good chance they wouldn't be allowed to leave even if they wanted to.

aurorablues · 21/02/2015 13:40

But yet this whole thread is pretty much speaking about the situation as if it's already fact.

ILovePud · 21/02/2015 13:44

Whilst it isn't the case with these three girls, it seems from media reports that a high relatively proportion of the other women who have joined IS are converts to Islam and haven't been raised within the Muslim community in Britain. There must be lots of different influences and motivations that come into play when someone does this.

HoldingtheFortress · 21/02/2015 13:49

I can well imagine there is a well polished 'grooming' act going on whereby young Jihadis are communicating with these girls via social media etc and 'romancing' them.

The reality they will face when they get there may well be a big shock, I don't imagine the men need to even attempt to keep up any pretence, since once they're there, they're stuck there.

Scotland Yard are saying that if they've reached Syria, they won't be coming back to the UK.

I can only imagine how distraught their parents must be feeling. I hope they catch them while they're still in Istanbul, bring them home and learn from them.

A very sad situation, but not altogether that surprising.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 21/02/2015 13:51

Mutter that was a really good post. The thought of young adults trotting off to Spain to join the International Brigade in the 30s was in my mind. We can applaud their fight against fascism. They were at the time also viewed as dangerous communists.
If you genuinely believe that your religious beliefs are real and correct and you live somewhere you believe wants to crush those beliefs , it isn't such a leap to see how this happens. No it isn't right but it isn't that baffling.

26Point2Miles · 21/02/2015 13:51

I'm thinking these girls may end up in Orange suits and held ransom

The UK would raise money for the captors very easily to get the girls back. Or if not money, whatever Isis want. 3 UK girls could be very profitable
