AIBU not agreeing to look after my mums dog if she dies

She's eighty and the dog is one. The likelihood is she will pass before the dog or get to a stage where she cannot handle it anymore. I actually think it was a little selfish of her to get a puppy at her age. Doesn't matter that she's in good health now, at that age things can change and deteriorate so very rapidly... She should have got an older dog if she needed the companionship.

Anyway yanbu. You could either lie and say you'll look after it but then give it up for adoption when/if the time comes. Or you could be honest, put your foot down and say you cannot have a dog and one reason being it would be unfair to the dog. At least if you're honest though she can try and find someone else in the family or amongst her friends that can take the dog on.
