We need to talk about place marking!

I've noticed that a lot of people particularly on popular "update" threads like parking threads and brass necked person asking for a lift all the time type threads will post with something like "puts kettle on" or even "blatant place marking" so when they go back to the thread they can find "where they were up to last". Presumably this means they can scroll through, see the lavender blush coloured strip and know that is where they are up to.

Fair enough but did you know you can bookmark a thread, which saves you even the hassle of posting and scrolling later?

If you are using "Mumsnet new" (which you can find under the bit that says Mumsnet Talk, and choose Customise (its next to unanswered messages). Once you are using Mumsnet New, all you have to do is go to the last post in a thread, hover your cursor over to the right hand side (sort of near "message poster" "report poster" type area, or just below) and a little "bookmark" prompt will come up and you can click on it.

Then next time you are on the thread, it will boom you straight down to where you left off.

Tis genius...

Tatty you have changed my MN life by teaching me about Bookmark. May all your poops smell like roses and may you be offered Brew or Wine wherever you go.

pookamoo · 19/02/2015 18:42

I have bookmarks on the app. Three little dots in a row at the end of each post. Click and it gives "bookmark" as an option...

pookamoo · 19/02/2015 18:45

Ah, sorry, am using mobile site not app!

southeastastra · 19/02/2015 18:49

no-one does that anymore Grin

Fairenuff · 19/02/2015 18:50

I've not yet tried to update my bookmarked thread, got visions of having a page of bookmarked places for the same thread and I still don't know how to permanently delete.

Jacana when you place a new bookmark it overrides the last one so you will only have one on each thread, which will be the last one. I usually bookmark all my posts so when I go back to the thread it goes straight to where I left off.

theblankslate · 19/02/2015 19:48

I didn't know this, thankyou.

MissDuke · 19/02/2015 20:31

I did it!!! Thanks op!!!

WhyDoesEveryoneHateMe · 19/02/2015 20:43

Do you see the deletion message if the thread is in watched but not posted in?

ChoresAreForBores · 19/02/2015 20:58

wheresthelight · 19/02/2015 21:23

My phone app doesn't allow me to bookmark sorry

allypally999 · 20/02/2015 08:44

I found it yeehaa! Grin

Jacana · 20/02/2015 09:07

Well, on my Apple iPad, using safari, I bookmarked the parking thread at p.27, bookmarked again at p.30something, which didn't override the p.27 one so I now have two....

Question' anyone know how to delete both? Cos I just can't see a way.

Confused
rumbelina · 20/02/2015 09:41

Tatty I love you! I can bookmark on my pc and my phone and it has changed my life. No more scrolling through threads thinking 'what time did I last read this'. I am FAFF FREE Grin

PrimalLass · 20/02/2015 09:43

I'm using Mumsnet New and can't bookmark. Maybe it's a Chrome issue (so many things don't work in Chrome).

Noodledoodledoo · 20/02/2015 17:06

PrimalLass I had to turn the option on, the options are on the customise page.

PrimalLass · 20/02/2015 17:52

Thank you! It works.

ohbollocks2u · 20/02/2015 17:57
