It's all very very odd.

Haggismcbaggis · 17/02/2015 19:18

I think the OP would know her child was very slight if she was 19kg. Not how she describes her in the original few posts.

Rhinosaurus · 17/02/2015 19:20

It is indeed very odd, perhaps the 9s looked like 4s ie 24.4 which would give a healthy BMI?

fattymcfatfat · 17/02/2015 19:21

I did mention that my DS is top end of healthy (90th centile) at 24.9 kg. maybe OP has seen that and decided to knock a few kilos off, not taking into consideration that DS is six and smaller than she claims her DD is so if he was the same height then he would be more low range bmi...

Rhinosaurus · 17/02/2015 19:25

Goes off muttering that nurses' handwriting is as bad as doctors these days and dreaming of letters requested and delivered within two days.... Envy

cinnamongirl1976 · 17/02/2015 19:28

Why do you all care so much?

VacantExpression · 17/02/2015 19:31

To all the posters talking about centiles- surely there will always be children at 99th centile- that's the while point of them? if everyone is under the 91st centile, the 91st centile will become the top? does that make sense?

ragged · 17/02/2015 19:31

Coz there isn't a more exciting thread on MN right now.
Actually, the selfish neighbour parking is pretty good, but hasn't been updated for a spell.

Rhinosaurus · 17/02/2015 19:32

I have now read through the entire thread as well as OPs posts. I would like to ask Jane if healthcare and school do not mix, how does she suggest that children with complex medical needs are supported to have the same opportunities as any other child to access mainstream education?

Rhinosaurus · 17/02/2015 19:34

Re the centiles, after 99.6th centile you add on SDs (standard deviations) so an extremely overweight child's BMI may be +3SD

Number3cometome · 17/02/2015 19:38

Why do you care enough to comment on whether we care cinnamon? Clearly you care enough to be reading

Rhinosaurus · 17/02/2015 19:40

I care because I am concerned about this severely underweight child who needs seeing by a GP, clearly if the mother hadn't noticed that her daughter was over measured by 10kg then she needs support and guidance.

Number3cometome · 17/02/2015 19:46

Or her child is obese and equally, she needs help!

TalkinPeace · 17/02/2015 19:53

Dear MNHQ
Could you pop this thread across to Weight Loss chat as this issues raised by OP are not best dealt with on a board as outspoken as this Smile

JudgeRinderSays · 17/02/2015 20:17

this is the thread that just keeps on giving!

SquareStarfish · 17/02/2015 21:07

Anyone else want to see a pic of the child in question?

You know you're all thinking it too

Number3cometome · 17/02/2015 21:14

I'm beginning to wonder if the child even exists.

Haggismcbaggis · 17/02/2015 21:46

The original post very clearly said she'd received the letter this morning. On 14th.
I'm ever so confused.

According to the NHS website a 6 year old weighing in at 19.9kgs and at 122.8 cm is a healthy weight on the 3rd percentile. I was starting to panic since my 6 year old is 17.8kgs but a bit smaller so I checked both and they are fine.Smile

Bunnyjo · 17/02/2015 23:02

10Kg less wouldn't make OP's DD severely underweight. My DD is just under 20Kg and 123.5cm; she is on the 3rd percentile and classed as healthy.

Rhinosaurus · 17/02/2015 23:02

The BMI comes to 13.22 which is underweight on the centile charts for girls.

Rhinosaurus · 17/02/2015 23:03

Sorry, 13.26 - which is still underweight.

Sirzy · 18/02/2015 07:28

Rhinos - the BMI for children is worked out using centiles and the new weight would put the child at 3rd centile which is healthy weight still.

Rhinosaurus · 18/02/2015 07:34

No, the pink shaded area is healthy range, which starts at 9th centile.
