I'm impressed that you could get through to them on a Saturday, when you received the letter and that they managed to find their mistake, compile a letter to you and post it for you, with apology, to receive today (Monday!).

It's always good when people can admit they're wrong though Smile

Maybe they sent both letters last week? Can't imagine a school sending letters first class - feel free to upload a picture of the letter OP with the details of your child blanked out to silence anyone who may be slightly Hmm about your post.

Bunbaker · 16/02/2015 16:23

Thank goodness for that. What a relief.

ClumsyNinja · 16/02/2015 16:25

I'd be very wary of these routine measurements, personally.

My DH was told he was chubby as a young teen. I didn't know him then but he hardly eats much these days as he's paranoid about being fat. I suspect it was just puppy fat as he's 6ft and weights 9.10.

One of his older sons was also a chubby teen. I saw the pictures. However, he's 6 ft 1 and slim. I think they both grew outwards before growing upwards.

Our DS is nearly 6 yrs and is one of the tallest in his class. At the moment, he's obviously skinny compared to his chums so it will be interesting to see if he bulks out in his early teens same as his dad and step brother.

AmantesSuntAmentes · 16/02/2015 16:31

It is weird how the noticed the mistake after they sent it out, had you queried it?

Yes I did query it.

Amazeballs! All of this worry for nothing. You must be relieved that there's nothing wrong, op?

Haggismcbaggis · 16/02/2015 16:32

There's a big difference between being very overweight as a 5 year old girl and a bit of puppy fat when they got puberty. The former is likely to lead to a lifetime of weight struggles. Heartbreaking. I think a lot of parents with overweight kids justify it on the basis of "puppy fat" Hmm

Haggismcbaggis · 16/02/2015 16:33

Sorry FTFT for me and a slap Grin

Verbena37 · 16/02/2015 16:36

Pleased they contacted you Devonshire. All that worry they put you through and they had got it wrong!

bubalou · 16/02/2015 16:55

What is she drinking op? Lots of sugar in that? Is she drinking enough as a lot of people have said - hunger is usually dehydration.

Maybe smaller meal portions and more snacks?

Just to help you out and not claiming to be perfect at all but I can only tell you what I feed DS. He's a VERY tall and active 6 year old. Yesterday he had -

Breakfast - OJ, rice crispies, 1 tea cake with jam.

Snack - yoghurt covered raisins and a chopped Apple

Lunch - wholemeal sandwich (1 slice bread) with cheese, cucumber and Mayo. Cucumber sticks, carrot sticks, a yoghurt, blueberries and a kit Kat.

Snack - handful of pistachios (he loves nuts) and chopped kiwi

Dinner - chicken casserole full of veg with wholemeal rice and a refresher lolly for dessert.

DS is a fruitaholic like me so I find him very easy to feed.

I think the important thing is to make sure you are feeding her the right things.

A sandwich sounds ok but should have wholemeal bread, same for pasta. Orange juice is great but so many people opt for the cheaper stuff that is from concentrate and doesn't have the health benefits of real orange juice - just sugar and empty calories.

Let us know OP how you get on.

Smile

Great that it's a mistake but I am genuinely surprised you had no idea of her weight before she was weighed?

pbwer · 16/02/2015 17:06

just checked this

www.rcpch.ac.uk/child-health/research-projects/uk-who-growth-charts/uk-growth-chart-resources-2-18-years/school-age#2-18

and I can't see any issue with the OP DC weight. Both height and weight on the same centile.Perhaps the school nurse doesn't know her job?

SuburbanRhonda · 16/02/2015 17:17

Another one who's very impressed that school nurses are working over the weekend, even if it's just for handling queries.

Ours don't, and only one in the team of four works over the school holidays.

SuburbanRhonda · 16/02/2015 17:22

Number3 schools do send out letters first class if they're urgent, but the letters will have come direct from the school nursing service as it's not anything to do with school.

Haggismcbaggis · 16/02/2015 17:27

Sharon - not surprised that someone wouldn't know their kids weight. But if have had one of mine on the scales PDQ if I'd received a letter like that. Presumably the OP doesn't have scales.

devonshiredumpling · 16/02/2015 17:34

I sat on this for a week before the original post and queried it in between

OP posts:
bubalou · 16/02/2015 17:38

Also glad it's a mistake but that's a huge difference for it to not be apparent to you and them straight away that it was wrong?

Thing is I wanted an acknowledgement of their mistake because if it happened to me it could happen to anyone and if they got our results wrong they might have got others wrong. And needed to check other letters. And yes she did go on our scales and they said what the second letter said

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 16/02/2015 17:44

But you said the letter arrived yesterday morning, OP?

So why not post op that you think there was a mistake and aibu to query this? Especially since you say you weighed her on your scales and found a massive discrepancy? Hmm
