To feel giddily excited about giving my daughter this gift

My DD has always had whatever I could provide....sometimes more than her friends sometimes less.

But she's never had a decent phone not the be all and end all i know, but phones are pretty important to teenagers aren't they?

By the way this isn't a stealth boast or anything like that.

She's always had hand me downs or second hand ones.On the only occasion she had a new one from a shop it wasnt a very good one.The one she has at the moment is one off ebay she bought with her money.

So last weekend a relative said she could have her old iPhone which was very kind of her and she dropped it off on Saturday but its scratched badly and the screen is smashed right across.

I think the relative was thinking she could get a new case and repair the screen but to be honest I was gutted when I saw the state of it....she accepted it and was grateful and Is talking about doing extra hours at work to pay for it to be repaired. But was so excited she rushed home to get the phone and her face when she saw it broke my heart.Shes not deprived or anything she has a kindle fire and a lovely bedroom but a nice phone just hasn't been on my list of priorities.

So I've bit the bullet and bought her anew iPhone 6. A gold one its bloody lovely! I'm going to give it her tomorrow and make out its a little valentines gift!

She's 17 by the way. She'll never in a million years expect one.

Hello everyone...thanks for taking such an interest and being so lovely!!

Had a nightmare at work which meant I didn't leave till after 3pm.Anyway........sent little DD upstairs to wake her up at 7:30am......she wouldn't get up, come on I shouted I've got you both something for valentines day and she's been waiting for you to get up before she opens hers.

She finally appeared at 7:50am and looked very annoyed!! Little DD opened her bits and then she started ripping the paper off hers, she dropped the box on the floor which wasnt a good start!

Then picked it up and looked at me....then took the lid off, then the actual phone fell out!!!!! (onto the settee luckily)

She picked it up looked at it and started crying.

Why have you got me this? She said.

Then I started crying little DD ran for the tissue box.

Because you deserve it and I was a bit insulted last week with the state of that other phone and you never said anything and were happy with it.

I thought it was some chocolates she said.

She started sobbing.

I then had to run out to go to work...all the time I've been at work she's text me saying I'm still in shock!

Thankyou,thankyou,thankyou. Ah well worth it!!

I know she's so grateful and will look after it.Smile

So glad she was thrilled!! Happy Valentine's Day to you all Flowers

Selks · 14/02/2015 17:14

Bless her! She sounds a little stunned (in a good way). You have done a truly lovely thing for her; not only have you got her something special that she will treasure, you have shown her your unconditional love which it sounds like she realises loud and clear. Well done, OP.

JustStirItUna · 14/02/2015 17:21

Nancy66 · 14/02/2015 17:23

Wow. what a gorgeous story. Your daughter sounds lovely (as do you)

Haggismcbaggis · 14/02/2015 17:56

Michael McIntyre says you only wake up the mother of small children from her one lie-in when it's either snowed or a celebrity has died.

This thread shows you should only wake a teenager from hers when you've got her an iphone6. What a lovely lovely thread. Hope she enjoys it!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 14/02/2015 18:05

MadameJosephine · 14/02/2015 18:52

Awww how lovely, a wonderful moment to remember for ever. Moments like these can be few and far between with teenagers sometimes so when they do come they are all the more precious. Flowers
Last year I bought DS an engraved silver compass for his 18th birthday but couldn't wait to give it to him do I gave it early as a just because I love you gift instead and he was delighted with it, it was a memory that will never leave me

TruJay · 14/02/2015 19:13

Aww how lovely. I bet she is absolutely over the moon.

My mum once did this to my brother one christmas, he really wanted a Nintendo 64 but he knew mum wouldn't be able to afford it. Anyway family all pooled together and bought it for him. Mum wrapped it in pink, flowery paper so it looked like one of mine or my sisters presents. He was coming to the end of his pile of presents and opened the last one which was a game for the console. Me and my sis had already opened all our presents (we were in on the surprise) so there was just this one box left. Bro looked so confused and mum said "we're gonna save for the console so u can play the game" and we all laughed, he dived on the pink box and tore off the paper, he was so happy and shouting his head off! It was great!! We all still talk about it now
