To feel giddily excited about giving my daughter this gift

My DD has always had whatever I could provide....sometimes more than her friends sometimes less.

But she's never had a decent phone not the be all and end all i know, but phones are pretty important to teenagers aren't they?

By the way this isn't a stealth boast or anything like that.

She's always had hand me downs or second hand ones.On the only occasion she had a new one from a shop it wasnt a very good one.The one she has at the moment is one off ebay she bought with her money.

So last weekend a relative said she could have her old iPhone which was very kind of her and she dropped it off on Saturday but its scratched badly and the screen is smashed right across.

I think the relative was thinking she could get a new case and repair the screen but to be honest I was gutted when I saw the state of it....she accepted it and was grateful and Is talking about doing extra hours at work to pay for it to be repaired. But was so excited she rushed home to get the phone and her face when she saw it broke my heart.Shes not deprived or anything she has a kindle fire and a lovely bedroom but a nice phone just hasn't been on my list of priorities.

So I've bit the bullet and bought her anew iPhone 6. A gold one its bloody lovely! I'm going to give it her tomorrow and make out its a little valentines gift!

She's 17 by the way. She'll never in a million years expect one.

Marking place, how lovely!!

SoupDragon · 14/02/2015 09:04

I did this with DS1 and an Xbox and managed to capture the look on his face when he opened it. Happy days :)

entiledornot · 14/02/2015 09:07

Id of fixed it after seeing the apple panorama and children risking their lives in the supply chain. I hate to say that in a warm fuzzy thread but it's a premium product where the working conditions aren't good for many involved in it.

NameChange30 · 14/02/2015 09:08

Please tell us how it went! Smile

plomino what a lovely story, definitely a lump in my throat and tears rolling down my cheeks.

And at the op too, I can't wait to hear her reaction.

MyballsareSandy · 14/02/2015 10:12

Ahh this is lovely, let us know her reaction.

I wrapped up mini iPad cases for my DDs for xmas a couple of years ago, put them under the tree. They opened them, were pleased and I said they could save up for the actual iPad as they usually get some money from relatives, plus their birthdays are early in the year .... Etc etc.

An hour later their next present was a mini iPad each, I recorded their screams Grin. They couldn't believe it as we never spend that sort of money on presents but DH had inherited a small amount of money. Happy memories and they still go on about it.

landrover · 14/02/2015 10:21

Palomino, i am crying!

pierpressure · 14/02/2015 10:23

Marking as my bookmarking seems not to be working?

Cocolepew · 14/02/2015 10:32

How lovely!
I bought dd a secondhand iphone 4s for Christmas. She talked constantly about wanting one, but we couldn't afford it , plus she's 13 and drops ever phone she has.
DHs work were selling off the ones they use for £100.
I was beside myself waiting for her to open it but was surprised at her distinct lack of screaming.
Then looked at her closer . She was shaking from head to toe with tears streaming down her face.
She now kisses it every night before she goes to sleep Hmm Grin

CatThiefKeith · 14/02/2015 10:38

Shouldn't have read Plominos story at work - I am on reception too!

Cant wait to hear about the reaction! So lovely when you can make someone's day/life - just as good to be the giver as the recipient.
