Dh is complaining that I did miso soup for dinner. It contains a bunch of spring onions, garlic, ginger, two big sweet potatoes, chilli, 2 cups of peas, a bunch of coriander, seaweed, 100g of ground up seasme and a big spoon full of fresh live miso. That's a complete meal right?

I think seeing as it's mostly water, you would get full pretty quickly, but hungry again pretty quickly as there's not a lot in there. I don't think it would be a complete meal on its own, as others have said it should have tofu or noodles to bulk it out a bit.

I would have soup for dinner, but it would be a thick soup filled with veggies, potatoes, lentils etc, served with some bread and butter.

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 21:54

Let it go nowe please. You have twisted your word andNow you're having a goad

ouryve · 12/02/2015 21:55

And I see you corrected yourself, but 700 calories instead of 800 is hardly worth being all up in arms about.

DH just said if he's still hungry, surely he can feed himself.

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 21:57

oAnyne else hungry?

QueenBean · 12/02/2015 21:59

Nope, you picked on a small part of my post and can't understand that I was talking about me personally and not on behalf of all women. I did not twist any of my words. You won't let it go and continually telling me to drop it when if you want to drop it, you just could. So do.

trufflesnout · 12/02/2015 22:04

It'd be fine for me, and my male OH, and our kids. Sounds lovely.

VitoCorleonePart2 · 12/02/2015 22:04

I really want to make some soup now. Think I'll make some tomorrow

Soup on its own would not be enough for me and DP, we like to have a sandwich to dip in it, usually ham and soft cheese

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 22:05

A Boy Does not mean one specific man
You say yourself that is how you refer to him, how was I to kmow?
So I took your post to mean you'd make assumptions about how much someone would want to eat based on if they were male or female. Which I think is sexist.

DeanKoontz · 12/02/2015 22:05

Yanbu. Your soup sounds lovely and very filling. I had soup made only from tomatoes, Kale and a stock cube tonight. It was very nice, but only 100 cals a bowl at most.

Couldn't he have just had some bread with it?

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 22:06

a sandwich into soup Never appealed
Soggy sandwich

QueenBean · 12/02/2015 22:09

I think that what you do is realise that you don't know every internet poster personally, accept it when they explain something and move on.

There are lots of typos in your posts so I'm not sure if there's an underlying issue as to why you're being unusually goady but I'm off this thread - apologies OP for it being derailed due to this odd debate

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 22:10

Ok

RJnomore · 12/02/2015 22:12

Wher are you getting 1400 calories in a pot of that?

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 22:13

Ok really silly Q as op mentions quantities
Is there a recipe
At what point do you add the fresh miso? Would you be able to use dry and when would you add that

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 22:13

How cAlorigicc is miso

RJnomore · 12/02/2015 22:20

A dessert spoon of miso paste is about 30 calories

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 22:22

o not fatteninf

FarFromAnyRoad · 12/02/2015 22:28

Way to go Stealth on being so picky and goady as to chase a poster off a thread. Feel better now?

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 22:30

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 12/02/2015 22:31

Nope, not a main meal, lunch maybe. As other posters said, you either need some noodles or protein in there to bulk it up, a broth with veg in is a very insubstantial meal, whilst nutritious (although NOT five portions in there, two maybe, & PEAS in miso soup??), there is nothing in there that will sustain overnight.

I'd be reaching for the cheese, tinned fish or toast after that, and would probably snack substantially later on in the evening.

We had Thai noodle soup last night, I used a packet of long-stemmed broccoli, two stems of Bok Choy, 300g of prawns, two sheets of noodles & coriander, spring onions, chillies, ginger & limes (the last four of which are garnishes & aromatics &, whilst healthy & tasty, are used in amounts that can't be counted as individual portions towards the mythical 5-a-day).

It was tasty AND satisfying.

ouryve · 12/02/2015 22:32

Sesame and sweet potato are calorific, though. And there's be 2-300 calories in a couple of cups of peas.

ApignamedJasper · 12/02/2015 22:32

Just to add....sweet potatoes in miso soup?? No, just no Confused

gobbynorthernbird · 12/02/2015 22:33

Not sure about the miso, but I'll have what stealth is having. It obviously works.

Stealthpolarbear · 12/02/2015 22:36

:)

RJnomore · 12/02/2015 22:38

The sesame is reasonably calorific. I googled and 100g is about 550 cals.

The sweet potatoes are probably 200 all in.

30 for the miso.

Peas, yep I reckon about 240 cals.

The rest are minimal amounts of cals - mushrooms, ginger, garlic, spring onions ets.

If anything, nearer 1200 cals for a full pot? Almost half of the calorie intake being from sesame seeds too - no idea if that's good or not, I only use them for a sprinkle on stir fries, not as the body of meals.
