miso soup with your 5 a day is a complete meal

Dh is complaining that I did miso soup for dinner. It contains a bunch of spring onions, garlic, ginger, two big sweet potatoes, chilli, 2 cups of peas, a bunch of coriander, seaweed, 100g of ground up seasme and a big spoon full of fresh live miso. That's a complete meal right?

We would have miso soup with other things normally. I don't think it's very filling.

Discopanda · 12/02/2015 20:25

100 grams of sesame seeds is quite a lot! Maybe could do with some protein like tofu.

molyholy · 12/02/2015 20:25

Well it sounds delicious to me and I am pinching the recipe, but my dh would not be happy with that as a main.

SomewhereIBelong · 12/02/2015 20:26

soup is a lunch or a starter here...

magrate · 12/02/2015 20:28

It is a big bowl full, and packed with protein -35-40g. Forgot to say it has mushrooms also

It doesn't sound filling on it's own let alone a dinner meal. Definitely a starter or side dish.

Eltonjohnsflorist · 12/02/2015 20:30

I don't think whether or not something has 5 a day is the measure as to whether it's a proper meal tbh!

rinabean · 12/02/2015 20:31

What's he complaining for, he can work a kitchen too I'm sure. It's hard to picture but it sounds like more than a starter to me, but not quite a full meal. I have a big appetite though. If it had tofu or noodles too it would be like what I would make

Eltonjohnsflorist · 12/02/2015 20:31

Also meant to say Miso soup is a side dish usually

ApocalypseThen · 12/02/2015 20:31

Can he not sort himself out something if he doesn't like what you made or did a magpie take his hands?

QueenBean · 12/02/2015 20:33

Nope not filling at all - would've added some protein in and more veggie - some beansprouts and sugar snaps

If I was cooking for a boy then would add noodles too

Can't see most people thinking that ginger, garlic and coriander would be very filling!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 12/02/2015 20:33

Does it have 5 a day in though? Obviously it has at least 5 different types of veg in but you are going to need 80g of each of those per serving.

That would probably make it quite filling though.

SenatusPopulusqueRomanorum · 12/02/2015 20:33

With the ingredients listed, I don't understand where the 35-40g of protein per serving come from.

PrincessOfChina · 12/02/2015 20:33

I think tofu or noodles too.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/02/2015 20:35

Miso soup is very tasty water

It's not food though

LaurieFairyCake · 12/02/2015 20:35

On a separate note, anyone complaining about what I'd cooked them would be pointed in the direction of the chippie

tinklykeys · 12/02/2015 20:38

It would certainly not be classed as a main meal in Japan. You could have it with rice and meat/fish, or add noodles for a ramen dish, but not on its own...

Sounds yum though!!

drivingmisspotty · 12/02/2015 20:38

I'd want some noodles in there personally. But then I know I am way too addicted to carbs and I am sure your soup is nutritious and delicious. Was you DH after meat?

Fairylea · 12/02/2015 20:39

I wouldn't consider any sort of soup a proper dinner... its more of a lunch thing for me. Sorry!

Summerisle1 · 12/02/2015 20:41

Sounds delicious. As a starter.

PHANTOMnamechanger · 12/02/2015 20:43

how many calories in a portion?
what else has DH eaten today?
what sort of work does he do?

that MIGHT be OK as a main meal for a slightly built woman with a not very active job, totally different for a big bloke who works or exercises hard.

TBH sounds like the sort of meal I would have if I was dieting!

magrate · 12/02/2015 20:43

Its not a thin soup, it filled a 2l pan and is full of peas and sweet potatoes so I don't think it needs any carbs.

High in protein with the peas, seaweed, seasme and miso.

Think I'm on to a loosing battle, but I'm totally stuffed after eating it.

UnalignedAnt · 12/02/2015 20:45

Mmm - I'd be more than happy with that (though would probably be snacking later!).

magrate · 12/02/2015 20:45

About 600-700 cals

OP posts:
fatlazymummy · 12/02/2015 20:45

It's not really a complete meal, unless you're doing a fasting day on a 5:2 diet. It might have lots of vegetables, but people need to feel full up as well.
