This really annoys me and I can't work out why.

Mine are called pants. Knickers sounds a bit Benny Hill/Carry On for me.

And anyone found using the word 'panties' will be shot.

Boobs. Knockers. Baps. Bristols. All are acceptable. Tits is not - too vulgar.

Getting back to the subject thread, the best word is "drawers". Nice and uncomplicated. No blushing and stuttering.

Incidentally, why are men's drawers so often sold in such dull colours. The menswear section of a store near me offers black, white, grey or navy blue. The Chinese ones available on eBay come in a range of bright colours. I have some Smile .

yanbu, always bugged me too.

Ah, Sazzle of course. It all comes down to how posh I am rather than my predisposition to Americanisms. Wink I just knew it.

Seriously though, it's interesting to read people's views on this.

I would have thought the opposite to jilly cooper : knickers working class and pants middle class

burblish · 15/02/2015 10:57

Knickers for sure - pants are for boys and panties are for pervs.

TiggyD · 15/02/2015 11:26

Surely they're called "frillies" or "panties"?

vienna1981 · 15/02/2015 18:12

I once knew a girl from York who said 'panties'. I thought nothing of it back in '92 but now ? Shudder.

EveBoswell · 15/02/2015 18:36

When I was young A few years ago my mother's name for children's bottom covering was knickers. Once you reached puberty, her words was pants.

forago · 15/02/2015 18:42

I hate the word knickers for girls pants, its so unnecessarily frilly and girly. Why should there be different names for the thing you cover your groin with depending whether you're male or female?

Its all pants to me

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 15/02/2015 20:10

Knickers for mine, pants for the DSs'. I can remember navy blue knickers for athletics or gym at school. Briefs sound like a business euphemism and panties are just grim.

Sazzle41 · 15/02/2015 20:25

Well as someone pointed out further up the thread, M&S is the epitome of British middle classness and they call them knickers! I was none the wiser what class i was after reading Jilly Coopers book as i didnt fit any categories!

I am surprised people find tits vulgar. I think norks which loads of people use on here sounds vile. Knockers is a bit 70's. I prefer what men call them amongst themselves/ when not in polite company (tits). I suppose i associate breasts with being rather prissy, medical stuff and the breastfeeding 'breastapo' as someone called them on here a while back.

I wear panties under my pants when I go trick-or-treating. On the way, I high-five a grey squirrel and give him a cupcake. I'm awesome and so are my teeth.
