This really annoys me and I can't work out why.

Pants is traditionally what we call trousers where I am, but that seems to be changing. I blame television.
Ds has always worn knickers Grin. My mum always called them knickers for boys and girls and so did I.
I think he remembers to call them pants in school PE changing situations. .
Sometimes ladies undies are drawers too.

GingerLDN · 13/02/2015 10:03

Panties makes me think of some greasy fat banker with a combover harassing his secretary...

I don't know why?!

Pants or knickers here. Boxers for hubby (I know how you all love that word) Wink

plinkyplonks · 13/02/2015 13:54

YABU :) Pants all the way :)

BellMcEnd · 13/02/2015 14:39

Merry try it! You can! Especially if you add a 't' at the beginning, ie "t'pants". Although I'm not northern myself I do come from a long line of northerners so maybe it's sone sort of linguistic throwback? I may be overthinking this Grin

BeachyKeen · 13/02/2015 16:25

I keep my underwear in my underwear drawer. I holds all my bras and panties, because I am Canadian, and that is what we call them.
No one here would call their 'gitch' pants, because pants go one the outside.

vienna1981 · 13/02/2015 17:22

Quite a few of my colleagues call 'trousers' 'pants' . Might be a West Yorkshire thing. I say 'trarthis' but I don't know why Grin

Just be thankful we all have crotch-containment undergarments in the first place, whatever they're called (I say 'drawers'). Otherwise it would be cheesy jeans and minging tights all roundShock .

Orangeanddemons · 13/02/2015 17:29

Pants.... Yuk. That word always makes me think of some pervy guy panting away.

Knickers is the way to go. Pants are big baggy things, knickers are smaller and sweeter.

FunkyPeacock · 13/02/2015 17:30

Pants or knickers interchangeable for girls/women but I would always say pants rather than knickers for boys/men

As many have already pointed out, the word 'panties' just seems sleezy and pervy - I had to leave Victoria's Secret fairly quickly on my one & only visit as the word panties is everywhere!

mrssmith79 · 13/02/2015 17:59

Regardless of gender they're 'crackers' in our house. Pants are trousers.

Haven't read the thread but knickers are pants! Unless you're American then pants seem to be trousers and your fanny is your bum!

KarmaViolet · 13/02/2015 18:26

Pants. Pants pants pants.

I had knickers at school, they were enormous, mandatory, made of some sort of bombproof material and we had to do gym in them. shudder

Wearing knickers as an adult would give you the VPL to end all VPLs.

And in fact the very term VPL proves that the word is pants, otherwise it would be a VKL.

ProudAS · 14/02/2015 07:14

I assumed the word "pants" came from pantaloons which were trousers.

ProudAS · 14/02/2015 07:16

I don't like the word "pants" as it's ambiguous.

Knickers, underpants, trousers etc are not.

ArcheryAnnie · 14/02/2015 07:45

Knickers or pants interchangeably here too, for both male and female sorts.

Agreed "panties" is pervy 70s heavy-breathing word - yuk.

On "picky bits", I didn't know it was used as a general term for party food. With us it's only ever been one particular snack: those bags of deep fried and salted large corn kernels, that you'd eat like peanuts and crisps.

Writerwannabe83 · 14/02/2015 07:53

I hate the word 'knickers'.

I wear pants Grin

ShelaghTurner · 14/02/2015 09:04

We all wear pants in this house. No one wears knickers and anyone wearing panties would be evicted. It's a good, all encompassing, neutral word. Why the need for two different m/f words for the bit of cloth that covers your arse?

Sazzle41 · 14/02/2015 14:27

According to Jilly Coopers book 'Class' (which i accept might be totally outdated now as i read it in late 80's) pants is working class, panties is lower middle class and knickers is middle or upper class. I am not sure what class i am but i say knickers. I hate 'panties'. Its so ... prissy. And dont get me started on 'breasts'. Its boobs in polite company or tits if in other um.... places. Breasts is just ... too medical/precious.

Strumpers - Fangolina? I love it!!

livingzuid · 14/02/2015 14:38

Pants. The word knickers is like nails down a chalkboard and as for panties that word makes me feel ill. So yabu!

SoleSource · 14/02/2015 16:25

YANBU

Pants is vile

ShelaghTurner · 14/02/2015 17:47

Really? Tits is awful unless "you're getting on my..." Boobs is for small children. Breasts is the perfect word, factual and functional yet can be erotic if necessary. I'd rather have someone touching my breast as opposed to touching my tit.

Bonsoir · 14/02/2015 17:50

"Pants" is a generic, workaday, all-encompassing word. Everyone wears pants. Knickers are pants for females.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 14/02/2015 17:56

My mum calls them Undies

gotthemoononastick · 14/02/2015 17:56

There is frilly cast iron ornamentation for verandahs called after brooks!

It is brookie-lace in hardware stores.

Are you one of my daughters Neolara?

ISolemnlySwearImUptoNoGood · 14/02/2015 17:59

Mine are pants too.

Only use the word knickers when I ask DH if he has any that need washing because it pisses him off Grin
