To shave my pets?

CatThiefKeith · 08/02/2015 10:22

I have a black Labrador, and a black cat.

My lovely cream carpets have been ruined, despite going over them at least once and usually twice a day.

The cat has taken to sleeping on dd's bed if the door is open (which it has to be as she is scared of the dark) and now her duvet is covered in black fur.

Last night the dog crept into the spare room and the lovely white bedding is also covered in black hair.

I changed all the fecking beds on Friday.

Wibu to give both of the furry bastards a number one all over?Wink

Or brush them every day?

EBearhug · 08/02/2015 10:24

You got cream carpets when you've got pets?

Janethegirl · 08/02/2015 10:25

Black bedding so you can't see the hairs Smile

SuburbanRhonda · 08/02/2015 10:25

Yes, brush them daily.

Use a Furminator - about £20 on ebay.

YABU. You should instead dye your carpets and bedding black so the hair wont show. Sorted.

Or cover pets in clingfilm (Apart from face - obviously.)

PS

Have you considered extra hold hairspray?

CatThiefKeith · 08/02/2015 10:30

The carpets came with the house, and predated the dog.

I do brush them, well the dog anyway.

Would hairspray work then?

CatThiefKeith · 08/02/2015 10:32
Shock

Having seen Luna's pic I might go for a number two on the cat. Who knew they were so ugly underneath?

I have a black lab, shaving sounds like a good solution to me.

ThatDamnedDog · 08/02/2015 10:36

I'll swap your lab and cat for my 2 white boxers. Their short hair gets on everything - particularly the kids black uniforms! Grin

JugglingLife · 08/02/2015 10:36

Our Newfie Labrador cross is being shaved as we speak........ She looks so cute! (Considering she's a big beast of a thing). We wouldn't shave our black lab though. I feel your pain OP, time to start shutting doors?

QueenBean · 08/02/2015 10:38

Give them both a nice show poodle cut - leg pom poms and all

Both practical and stylish

JugglingLife · 08/02/2015 10:39

We've decided to leave her a lions Pom Pom on the end of her tail.....

CatThiefKeith · 08/02/2015 10:40

Even if I shut the doors, they'll just moult all over the hallway.

From the amount of fur that comes off them I can't understand how they're not bald already.

I empty the Dyson EVERY FUCKING DAY.

Fuckers. I'm sure they are doing it on purpose. Hmm

OP posts:
CatThiefKeith · 08/02/2015 10:41

We had a boxer when I was a child. I don't remember this much hair. It was the 80's though.

Patterned carpets, that's what I need!

OP posts:
JugglingLife · 08/02/2015 10:44

They are horrid hairy beasts. I thought they were supposed to moult twice per year. what a load of bollocks

cozietoesie · 08/02/2015 11:01

Humans shed over 1.5 pounds of skin per year. You'd need to have the Dyson out anyway!

Letmeeatcakecakecake · 08/02/2015 11:05

I would try a furminator! It doesn't stop the shedding entirely but it does massively reduce it, also, you can wash them in anti shed shampoo and conditioners and also give them a pill to reduce shedding! Might be worth getting the labs undercoat clipped once the weather gets a bit warmer? X

AmarettoSour · 08/02/2015 12:32

I was going to suggest the furminator too! Takes out a crazy amount of fur.

Pipbin · 08/02/2015 12:32

The carpets came with the house, and predated the dog.

The carpet ate the dog? Grin

Could you bleach them so the hair would be white? Or cover them in glue?

QueenVick · 08/02/2015 12:44

I feel your pain.
We have one black Heinz 57 type dog (who is now bloody incontinent) and one white staffy cross. We had wood flooring put down. Between DH and I we sweep 2-3 times a day and vacuum the rugs twice a day. Both dogs get a really good brush down twice a week in the garden which helps.
They are both really old now and can't get up the stairs so that helps keep the stairs, hall and bedrooms practically hair free, although the hair tends to get swept through upstairs from the foot traffic of us 4. Such a pain isn't it, I've been known to run screaming from our white dog in my work clothes as I mainly wear black Grin

I'm just glad our snake and beardies and gecko shed in their vivs! So much easier than bloody dog hair.

DropYourSword · 08/02/2015 12:49

Having clippered shaved my own dog once, I wouldn't recommended it. The clippers overheated and I had to do it in two sittings. She had a ridiculous haircut to deal with overnight. She was a doggy equivalent of Mr T.

I see cling film, glue and extra hold spray have already been recommended. Have you considered Waxing or hair removal cream as an alternative Grin

Billy Connolly also talks about 'dog bags'. You just...put your pet in the bag, with its head sticking out. Reckon that would be good at collecting shredded fur.

CatThiefKeith · 08/02/2015 13:12

QueenVick I am desperate for wood flooring.

Dh hates it. Reckons it makes the house feel cold. Sad

What if I made them both onesies?

OP posts:
MrsTawdry · 08/02/2015 13:14

Yes. Tight onesies with a nice modern print on them so they'll fit in. Do it.

HouseAtreides · 08/02/2015 14:25

Dog and cat hair in the toy boxes. In the toys. In the dinner. In my pockets. In my shoes, handbag, down the sides of the sofa, in the slats under the mattress, on top of the books on the bookcases, stuck to the house plants, trimming the tablecloth like an attractive fringe.
