I have a black Labrador, and a black cat.

My lovely cream carpets have been ruined, despite going over them at least once and usually twice a day.

The cat has taken to sleeping on dd's bed if the door is open (which it has to be as she is scared of the dark) and now her duvet is covered in black fur.

Last night the dog crept into the spare room and the lovely white bedding is also covered in black hair.

I changed all the fecking beds on Friday.

Wibu to give both of the furry bastards a number one all over?Wink

LouiseBrooks - can you expand a bit on why the woman who previously owned your house was silly?

I'm just curious as to whether she was silly because she didn't use psychic powers to deduce that future buyers of her house would have pets or silly i general for having cream carpets.

Salmotrutta · 08/02/2015 23:31

Grin @ CatThief - my bastards cats make a big bloody show of turning their noses up at water.

They dip their paws in and lap the droplets. Hmm

Like royalty or something.

Then they stroll outside and lap from a frigging puddle... Angry

trufflesnout · 08/02/2015 23:34

My cat will only drink from the glass of water I take to bed. I only know that they do this because I woke up early one morning and caught him at it. He must have been doing it for years Sad

CatThiefKeith · 08/02/2015 23:35

My bastard cat has smashed a multitude of glasses with a smidgein of water left in the bottom, trying to get to it, and leaves paw prints in the pan of the loo, but refuses to drink out of his (or the dogs) bowl.

Fucker has gone through three pint glasses since Christmas and dh never learns.Hmm

She was probably very un-silly and installed the cream carpet for her cream pets Sparkling

apostropheuse · 08/02/2015 23:52

Grin at this thread.

My two Torties shed black, white and ginger hairs simultaneously. I've got wooden floors all over the house though. It was either that or I would have had to brylcreem them every morning and I don't have the time to do it.

Salmotrutta · 08/02/2015 23:56

truffle - it was me who asked why LouiseBrooks previous owner was silly.

I haven't seen Sparkling on this thread ...

Topseyt · 09/02/2015 00:35

No drinking fountain for my cat. He prefers to drink by licking the inside of the plughole in the bath.

He will also get up onto the roof of the car and lick the dew or frost from it.

The dogs like muddy puddles, ditch water and snow and ice (if we get it).

I feel your pain OP I have a white fluffy dog who looks like a polar bear and 2 black and white cats, I'm pretty sure white hair is attracted to black clothes and black hair is attracted to white clothes, unfortunately shaved cats are creepy and the dog runs away from the clippers so I'm going to have to learn to live with it.

My cats will only drink from the dogs bowl, and only when the poor dog is trying to drink from it, the dog quite likes drinking from DD's plastic cup, sadly his nose is too big and gets stuck every time.

CatThiefKeith · 09/02/2015 08:34

Bramwell your polar bear dog sounds awesome. Is he a Pyrenean Mountain dog? My mums neighbour has one, and he is massive and polar bear looking.

New low this morning. My beautiful cream woollen cape that I've had two weeks fell off was pulled off by a furry bastard the coat hook in the night and the fucking three legged little tosser has slept on it.

I will never get all the hair out. Sad

YABU (even if tongue in cheek humour). If the bedding is more important than your pets why have you got them. Perhaps you can become one of the people who rehome their pets and get new ones to fit with the decor every time they change their colour scheme.

CatThiefKeith · 09/02/2015 09:14

Ooh good idea Kats.

Maybe I could swap them for cream coloured pets with someone who has black carpets. Wink

Undernourish them.

We got our hairy collie cross from a rescue. She was quite scrawny when she first came and hardly lost any hair at all. I was all smug and pleased to have apparently chosen a magic nonshedding dog. Cue a few months later after lovingly feeding her up and the ungrateful thing sheds like billyo.

So undernourish them. Job done!

CatThiefKeith · 09/02/2015 09:19

I don't think I have the patience to undernourish them.

The cat yowls like a banshee for food, even if I've just filled his bowl. Apparently if he isn't right there, head butting my hand as I try to put the food in, it's not fresh enough. Fussy little shit.

And have you ever tried to under feed a Labrador? They'll eat anything. Cat shit (with litter attached) for preference, but if not frozen chicken defrosting on the side, will do. Grin

Beachcomber · 09/02/2015 10:48

Ah yes, forgot we were dealing with a cat and a lab and not a neurotic collie who needs to be encouraged to eat....

Yuck at cat litter crusted poo.

CatThiefKeith · 09/02/2015 10:50

Dh calls it cat crap en croute. Grin

I feel your pain. We have to cover the sofas with hard objects every night to stop the super-moulting dog from sleeping on them. We are hyper-vigilant about closing bedroom doors when we're not there.

No advice other than brushing / combing every day. We also bring the dog to a groomer every few months for a clip and a thorough de-furring.

trulybadlydeeply · 09/02/2015 11:02

What's that stuff that you spray on Christmas trees to stop them shedding their needles? Get that and spray them all over regularly.

I would also suggest that you find somewhere else for your daughter to live, then you can shut her bedroom door at night and stop the cat getting in there.

I have 3 cats and a dog, and feel your pain. I have to say though, I find the piles of vomit that seem to appear from each of them on occasions worse than hair, as they stain in a way that makes them a devil to remove.

MajesticWhine · 09/02/2015 11:06

Sorry, have not RTFT but can't you just switch the pets to match your carpets. White labradors are cute.

CatThiefKeith · 09/02/2015 11:15

Hmm. I'd rather not rehome dd if I can help it.

Ddog has eaten her onesie, and the cat is refusing to go out in his babygrow in case his mates laugh at him.

I don't really want to swap the pets either because I am a glutton for punishment I'm quite attached to them.

I've given them a going over with some Elnett super strong hold. Let's hope for some improvement. They smell like my late gran. BlushWink

Salmotrutta

She was silly not because she wasn't psychic (although that in itself is a nuisance Smile) but because she installed a cream carpet in the heaviest traffic area in the house. It's a flat fronted terraced cottage where the front door comes straight into the sitting room (no hallway) and despite all my best efforts (no shoes in the house, mats by the front door etc) is impossible to keep clean even without the cat. The carpet has to be professionally cleaned 1-2 times a year because of red wine stains - that were not caused by me - which keep reappearing. I have, to date, never spilled a drop of red wine.

I have, however, decided that when my spoilt little darling kicks the bucket, the replacement will definitely be a cream cat.

SquirrelledAway · 09/02/2015 14:30

louise your cat doesn't have opposable thumbs, they are right clumsy buggers, hence the red wine stains. Can you swap to a red-wine coloured carpet? Or a less clumsy cat? I would offer you a less clumsy one, but it's extra hairy and likes to poo on cream carpets and throw up in handbags. I could swap you the white one, as maybe white hairs might be a bit less conspicuous, but she is clumsier than a clumsy thing and will leave claw marks every time she falls off something (daily occurrence). And she drinks from my water glass (gets her head stuck in it usually).

NeedABumChange · 09/02/2015 14:42

Can you Hoover the lab? My friend does hers daily with the attachment and he doesn't seem to mind, probs feels like a very £££ massage. Never understood why labs are so popular as they moult horrifically.

LouiseBrooks · 09/02/2015 20:36

Squirrel thanks for the offer but I do love my cat (who never drinks any water at all as far as I can tell) so I'll cope.
